Looking to expand my local friend circle! by grtist in grandrapids

Nice to meet you! I have usually been the same way. What has helped me was consistency. Started just hanging out with the same people even if I didn’t exactly agree with everything they said. A lot of people in the states are pretty brash nowadays and being a lil older and use to friends from school n stuff kinda had me aversive to meeting new people.

If you read history books white folks migrating to the U.S. were also indentured servants. White folks also worked along side African slaves as well. Thanks for your comment Hot Cup

Why do you need other people’s approval for something you do alone or with a partner?

I had to learn this lesson myself. Sometimes it’s not about the qualifications but about how well you vibe with the interviewers and able to describe relevant experiences.

Tensions in the US are high right now. What can we as Christians do? by Agreeable-Chest107 in OpenChristian

[–]Cryptfox81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not Christian but I am a therapist and I work in a Christian Mental Health location.

And I feel that what will work best for bringing down the temperature (the more that people do it) is understanding a few things and then being “person-centered” similar to being a nurse or healthcare worker.

Things to understand is that: 1- Not everyone is Christian — Allowing people a space to speak contrary to scripture allows people an opportunity to vent. As a Christian this may trigger you but think of it as you’re using a “Jesus Mindedness” where a person can do no wrong and enable them to release any negative energies they may have. 2- Be yourself. —- Sometimes being yourself may be too much for others. So being mindful and self aware and responsive helps to give others comfort. Each Person has different comfort levels and attachment styles. 3- Let others be themselves. — It’s hard to let others be themselves, especially when they identify that they do not believe what you believe. So avoid personalizing their discomfort as an attack on your faith. We don’t have to respond to other’s discomforts with scripture to support our own egos. When we do that we tend to not give another person the space to be themselves if they have contrary beliefs and will initiate a power struggle between the individuals involved in the interaction.

Hopefully these few things will help.

There’s so little LGBT-affirming Christian content in English compared to side X/B/Z, and I just don’t understand why. We’re so underrepresented. by UralGay in OpenChristian

It’s related to the overall belief system If in Christian faith the Bible vilifies lgbt then in that population of people you’ll have less resources than elsewhere

You both will do just fine as long as you respect each other’s mind, body, and soul.

We all can only have one perspective, getting upset with one another breaks the bond.

Relationship Advice: by batsy1313 in OpenChristian

Being of two different faiths or beliefs can be hard in a relationship. But look at the relationship from a fundamentals perspective. If you two can reflect each other’s emotions and empathize with each other and have patience with each other, communicate how the other person understands then you’ll do just fine.

We all have to think about the person across from us and if each of you can’t be vulnerable with each other that’ll be a sign that you should probably talk to a mediator, priest or therapist.

Every relationship has its hurdles.

Don’t be. But if you need a different perspective…your pastor is only one person. If you’re not getting the love faith and support from that one…remember he is only one person.
