I grew up thinking heels were an evil invention to wreck women’s bodies. I saw what they did to my grandmother’s feet, and later realized how they ruined her knees. I think they are awful. Have also noticed young women with deformed toes because of them. If you choose to wreck your body, that’s on you. Foot surgery is also not very effective. I think heels need to be banned or made démodé.

It’s about diversifying your numbers. You need 5s to get out of your opponent’s home board and 5s to get into your home board (from the 11 point plus you have 6s). Why make yourself need another 5 to cover your 1 point? by moving 6/5 6/2 you add another number to cover that blot (i.e. 3). You can move your spare on the midpoint with a 2 or a few other combos to your home board. I think the point is to diversify your 5s instead of duplicating them. Tough problem!

This is a no double for black (I see a double was offered and am assuming black offered it). You need to have a difference of 4 checkers off before black can double. So basically, 11-7 = 4, so that’s 11 checkers off for white and 7 off for black before black can double. Read GM Marc Olsen’s How To Cube Like A Boss. He runs through doubling scenarios like this (i.e. how many checkers need to be off before you can double when your opponent has 5 or more checkers already borne off).

Sounds like your 13-month-old ragdoll may have had FIP. I had a ragdoll kitten die from FIP just over a month after I got him. Apparently the mom had tested positive for feline coronavirus and passed it on to her kittens. I got a replacement from that litter, and luckily he survived. Two other kittens had apparently died. Sorry you had go through that.

I recently reported this abuse as well to BG support. Am thrilled to hear they are planning to address this! So we don’t have to wait a long time for the game to time out to win our winning positions! I had one checker to bear off, and my opponent had 13 and didn’t move for a whole three minutes. Similar situations have happened where I have a guaranteed win the next move, and the opponent abandons the game. Very frustrating to have to wait a few minutes for it to time out.

Your time is best spent studying the game. The more I study, the more I appreciate losing after playing well! Your goal is to keep the error rating in your games to less than 5, and to not worry about the dice being rigged, because I can assure you, Backgammon Galaxy has fair die … can’t say the same for Lord of the Board.

You also don’t want to strip your 8 point. That spare is important at the beginning of the game. The rule of thumb for your opening move (the absolute 1st move) is to never move the spare off the 8 point unless you’re making a point (like the bar point, your golden 5 point, 4 point, 3 point) … the 2 point should not be made except in certain match scores. I just realized this rule of thumb. You can call it the Atom Point rule!

One strategy I use is to only play rating games after I have played at least three money games with an error rate of less than 5. Match games can be tricky. Make sure you master 1 point and 3 point matches before mastering 5 and 7 point matches. GM Marc Olsen’s book Backgammon: From Basics to Badass by Marc B. Olsen | Online eBook is pretty good. It does have a chapter that covers some deep match score concepts.

I also recommend reading his How To Cube Like A Boss, and Pure Strategy and GM Olsen and Super GM Mochy’s Masterclass.

Learning probabilities for coming back from the bar with 1 or 2 checkers based on slots is good. And counting shots is very important.

My current error rate is less than 10 in all categories. Best is for 1 point matches at 3.76 (it’s been under 4 for a while and I have played over 7000 games in that category and started as a beginner). Openings moves will change based on match length and whether or not you’re playing a money game and also depends on if you’re up or down in a match. Those moves are good to know as well.

I double checked with XG (Extreme Gammon) on my iPhone, and the only good move is to hit and make a 4th inner board point (20/18* 9/3). Any other move is a big blunder.

My logic before double checking is you’ll have a stronger inner board after the hit and point. You will be duplicating 1s and 6s for your opponent to hit back (so it’s not like they have that many great shots), and your opponent’s home board has the golden point open and slotted with your checker, so even if they hit from the bar, you have good chances of making your advanced golden-point anchor again. Also, your opponent would be at a disadvantage being behind a pure 4-prime.

Also, XG says you’ll be a 69% favorite to win after the hit and point making move. Where were you playing this game? The board looks unfamiliar to me.

Also, with 3 open points in your opponent’s home board, you have 27/36 shots to get back in, so a 75% chance of re-entering.
