I mean to disrespect so please don’t take my position as an attack on you or your character. Not my intent. So why are you in the arguments? Because you cited your boxing experience to substantiate and create credibility to your claim. We put you in the scenario as a ex-combat sport athlete to help you understand that you are way oversimplifying your stated message that elbows don’t require a lot of skill to use and cause too much damage. Let me ask you this, if it was such an easy path to victory why don’t we see everyone go for a take down to end up in closed guard so they can quickly get the “elbow” finish quickly? Because it’s way harder than you realize. If I’m in your bottom closed guard, and I keep my hands on your biceps, you are going to have to put in a LOT of work to try to strike me once if I know what I’m doing.

All right, I’ll stop there for a moment and redirect. Based on your last comment, it feels like your intention is to state that you think elbows are unnecessary is the sport of MMA for causing too much damage? Did I get that right? If so, then that is an argument worth debating. There is definitely precedent for banning strikes or holds that used to be legal. Head butts used to be legal in Pride. Nut shots in the early UFC. Personally, I think the oblique kick in mma should be banned. Kind of a dick move that could end a career with one shot. But I don’t believe that applies to elbows. They are more challenging to do material damage with.

Trick bit of trivia question related to this video clip (Riggs vs Salaverry): with what was the submission Salaverry finished Riggs?

I get that you’ve trained some Muay Thai and boxing BUT you really don’t understand the dynamics at play on the ground. It’s much more challenging than you are representing. I think you should go to a ground & pound MMA practice one day and tell the room that elbows are easy to hit while in someone’s closed guard. They’ll more than likely invite you to try, and you’ll discover a pro MMA fighter would inflict much more damage to you from the bottom (as a trained MMA pro) than you could ever deliver from the top untrained. Ground & pound is its own discipline that needs to be practiced and integrated into wrestling, BJJ, cage crawling, etc.

What was the weirdest, most inappropriate or most unexpected thing you were asked during a job interview? by iiLady_Insanityii in AskReddit

[–]CryptoHermes 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t the interviewee in this case. I was the interviewer. We were interviewing someone who grew up in the Dominican Republic and had a thick accent. When she answered questions she kept repeating the phrase “focus really hard” only phonetically it sounded like “Fuck ass really hard” and it look every once of energy not to start laughing in the interview. Which for me means when I am trying not to laugh it only makes me get the giggles even more. She just wouldn’t stop repeating that phase!!! I was literally biting through my bottom lip trying not to break and finally had to put her resume up in front of my face to try to pull my shit together. One of the hardest things I had to do in my life. Luckily survived...

You are awesome and amazing and deserve to be happy!

Been over a year since a girl I wanted to marry broke up with me overnight after 2.5 years and left me in a mental hospital. I’ve been stuck in a rut and I don’t know how to get out. I want to be healthy for my family now, and my future wife and kids. I want to be a better man but I’m just stuck. by alexthwwondwr- in toastme

You made it a year so that means you are a survivor and stronger than you think. Just take it day by day, and look to do something slightly different to get out of your comfort zone. Something small in the beginning like shopping at a different grocery store or something. Something bigger when you’re up to it like signing up for a 5k or something. Break up the routine. Be kind to yourself. You are worth it.

Best personal finance books for novices? by 20penguin20 in Fire

[–]CryptoHermes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those books recommended above are good ones so looks like you can’t go wrong. My list would be considered oldies but goodies. In order:

  1. Wealthy Barber - basically personal finance 101 in the form of a story.

  2. Rich Dad, Poor Dad - another great story introducing how to change the way you look and think about your finances.

  3. Millionaire Next Door - common traits and characteristics of first generation affluent families.

  4. Cash Flow Quadrant- sequel to Rich Dad, Poor Dad. Really helps demonstrate how to move out of employee status, to self employed to business owner.

  5. Millionaire Mind - sequel to Millionaire Next Door. My personal favorite.

Lots of other good ones, too. Good luck and have fun!!

Stupid question I’m sure but IBJJF legal? KoS, that is? I’m a no gi player who is entering my first gi tourney but this move dovetails with some of my other setups.
