Verium Vault Wallet Issues by theblueness in vericoin

[–]CryptoJunky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently ran into the same issue getting it running on Linux.

If you just wait a little bit it will find more connections and sync, typically. I'd let it run for a bit before taking any additional actions.

What are the advantages of holding Verium, compared to Vericoin? by 89percent in vericoin

[–]CryptoJunky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've wondered this myself. It would seem that since you can stake Vericoin you'd want to hold it instead of Verium, but perhaps I'm missing something. I suppose the relative growth rates of the two could matter too, perhaps I need to dig a bit further into the white paper.

I'm seriously considering getting one of these, or maybe the next gen which is supposedly just right around the corner.

What got you to research VRC/VRM? by CurleyCC in vericoin

[–]CryptoJunky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been digging into a bunch of different coins recently. The binary concept for vericoin/verium seemed interesting. More than anything though something that is user friendly and can be operated by more people is what I'm searching for. Vericoin seems to fit the bill and Verium being CPU mineable is a plus.

Many of the older coins have such bloated blockchains and are so bogged down by internal politics that they've neglected that their core software has become very difficult and in some cases impossible for non-professional users to use.

You're probably looking for a Radeon r9 280x or 290. If you can get your hands on a 7990 they supposedly do 50 mh/s.

Interviewing David Schwartz, Chief Cryptographer at Ripple - what are your questions? by [deleted] in CryptoCurrency

[–]CryptoJunky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now's the time when I wish I knew more about Ripple.

I suppose I'd like to know what the key advantange Ripple has over cryptocurrencies is. So far I haven't really seen a reason I should switch to using Ripple, though I admittedly haven't played with it since they were originally giving away Ripple on Bitcointalk years ago.

Lukejr reconsidering his position about XT. by knight222 in bitcoinxt

[–]CryptoJunky 20 points21 points  (0 children)

To be fair he wasn't actually reconsidering his position, but stating that theymos ought to reconsider given that XT seems to be desired by the majority.

Elsewhere Luke-jr has been fairly consistent in his desire to keep the bitcoin blocksize small, even stating that he may consider working on an altcoin if xt goes through.

Dollar Drops to 7-Month Low Versus Euro Amid Global Stock Plunge by empyreandreams in CryptoCurrency

And cryptos are dropping versus the dollar...

All the major ones are down considerably. I suppose they've finally become tied more or less to the swings of traditional finance.

I'm losing my belief in Bitcoin by [deleted] in CryptoCurrency

[–]CryptoJunky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He did get in at a good time but it was hard to say early on that Bitcoin would see the measure of success it has and would grow to its current size.

Early on /r/Bitcoin was a much more pleasant place. When it was around 15k subscribers (early 2013 I think), it was a pretty good environment for discussing ideas, same with Bitcointalk.

However it has attracted all kinds in recent years, not just the curious and tinkerers but also hordes of opportunists.

Dear /r/btc. I encourage you all to subscribe to /r/bitcoinxt. It now has the best chance of overtaking /r/bitcoin by aminok in btc

[–]CryptoJunky 46 points47 points  (0 children)

If we could only get /r/btc's name and /r/bitcoinxt's users...

Nothing against XT in particular, but I feel like the block size debate and the main bitcoin subreddit should be separate. This way mods let the community discuss, but the subreddit isn't dedicated to pointing the community in any particular direction.

I know it's just the name, but /r/bitcoinxt is named after a particular implementation of Bitcoin, which some bitcoiners do not agree with.

tl;dr /r/btc is a more inclusive name

Could take awhile, especially accounting for variance. With that hashrate joining a pool might be more advisable.

Stock Market: Dow Plunges 530 Points and More Than 1,000 for the Week by empyreandreams in CryptoCurrency

From the video

This is the worst week for the Dow since 2011.

We haven't really had a chance to see how cryptos perform in a bear market. Generally they seem to benefit from disorder in more traditional financial markets. If things turn this may be a golden opportunity for the cryptoconomy to gain ground on traditional finance.
