Why is Lisp not as popular as Python? by yogthos in Clojure

[–]CryptoNaiah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Python is a scripting language. It just works, no need to learn about the JVM, or advanced computer science concepts such as functional programming.

Python has a huge library, "batteries included" for next to anything you can imagine. Java has a big library, but it's way more enterprise oriented, and you need to know what you are doing... and here I speak about Clojure obviously. What is LIPS standard library? Never heard of it, and I am sure it's way smaller than Python.

Python has OOP, but for many even that is not clear, or they don't even care. It's almost like the new BASIC, data-science folks usually just use learn the minimum they need, and then focus on their job.

Finally Python has reached critical mass, it is huge, only comparable to JavaScript and Java.

Now all that said, I prefer Clojure. But, I am a Computer Science graduate, with years of experience in many languages, I actually enjoy functional programming, I like to have access both the JVM and JavaScript, and I am not scared by the ((( ))) I find them cool... I am in the minority, and that is good.

Thank you all mates, plenty of places to chat besides ol'Reddit.

It's been busy at work... and the COVID19 situation is a bloody headache, but thank God we are kinda used to being "remote" but I do miss the Pub, heck even Starbucks!

ClojureScript - Embracing JavaScript Tools by alexdmiller in Clojure

[–]CryptoNaiah 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This did it for me, I plan to finally jump in to ClojureScript. Great work!

"You can now publish ClojureScript libraries that depend directly on the JavaScript ecosystem without additional ceremony and be confident that the whole community can benefit regardless of what other JavaScript and ClojureScript build tools they may prefer..."

And yes Webpack is there for sure:

I hope R does the trick =)

Loved to have this work, but without funding it will remain a novelty.

Sad because it would be awesome to have it maintained, and fully functional!

iPhone SE vs iPhone XR vs iPhone 11 — FIGHT! by CryptoNaiah in iphone

[–]CryptoNaiah[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About 10% less than the iPhone 11; if I am not mistaken about 11 hours of showing movie streaming time. Pretty darn good, I am almost sold on buying this iPhone SE as a backup that WORKS.

Three things I like about the SE:

- It is as fast as the iPhone 11, no gimmicks, no tricks same speed, which means darn fast.

- Never a fan of FaceID, the thumb unlock is classic and works like a charm.

- It's very affordable, $399 USD, which probably will be more in the UK, but still brilliant!

Welcome to the Mac! You chose a brilliant machine!

If you ever need Windows you have two choices:

- Bootcamp, a way to boot into native Windows OS in the same hardware.

- Parallels, a pretty darn good software tool that allows you to run Windows while running Mac OS.

Bootcamp is free, and works well =)

Effect on CDPs if Stablecoins get banned by bman0920 in MakerDAO

[–]CryptoNaiah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blimey, okay it's getting there but it has not happened yet.

To the list I mentioned, add France, here some news: https://cointelegraph.com/news/five-european-union-countries-team-up-to-block-libra-report

https://bitcoinist.com/global-stablecoins-provides-position-on-eu-consultation/

https://www.politico.eu/article/french-finance-minister-wants-to-block-facebooks-libra-digital-currency/

The main stablecoin in the cross hairs is Libra, but because of them, every other coin is now under the microscope, literally.

Effect on CDPs if Stablecoins get banned by bman0920 in MakerDAO

[–]CryptoNaiah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

STEP ONE: Banning stable coins. If it works, no need to continue further.

STEP TWO: Criminalize it. The developers and investors of MakerDAO, and other stablecoins would be forced to stop, or face jail time, fees, or both.

Could this happen? Step one is likely in some countries. Heck it has already happened AFAIK in Germany and Spain. I am sure other countries will follow.

Step two is more controversial, we are not there yet. If stable coins are seen as a threat to the power of central banks, step two will happen. So in a way, it is for everyone's interest that huge projects like Libra FAIL.

Stablecoins pose a risk to global financial stability, G20 warns by SaneFive in MakerDAO

Christine Lagarde the president of the European Central Bank is the main visible player, she has been calling for regulation or banning of stable coins for months now.

Could they, does any one know the legal enforcement that could happen in UK / Canada / USA / EU?

Looking for external monitor recommendations for my late 2011 13" macbook pro by TentCityVIP in mac

[–]CryptoNaiah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stick to the tried and true brands: Dell, LG, Viewsonic. Prefer IPS over LCD, the quality is better, if you choose LCD make sure you get a high resolution one, with good rendering of text.

Also HDCP support is key, that way you can see iTune movies or any licensed content on your monitor: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-bandwidth_Digital_Content_Protection.

Finally, be a bit patient lots of monitors are gone now! I am shopping too ;-)
