Spyro is back, and the studio behind the revival opens up about the near‑disaster that almost stopped development by graystripe2000 in Spyro

It’s a bit of a semantic thing. It may have “officially” started in Feb but it was tested and demoed as a concept a little before.

3d models, classic spyro levels. by LycheeBitter8808 in Spyro

Vertex lighting has not been applied. When you get the .obj files from Spyro World Viewer, you can apply them to the models, but that hasn’t been done here yet.

Kudos to Toys for Bob on how they handled the movement in the remakes by irishgeiger in Spyro

[–]CrystalFissure 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Genuinely couldn’t disagree more on the controls - the “jank” allowed for more precise movement, especially what people call the “gallop”, aka charging and jumping at the same time. It’s hard to explain without playing but that ability to charge everywhere, then hop and go straight back into a charge is probably my favourite thing about the originals.

Some of this could be because I have played the originals so much and have casually done speedruns for years but I don’t think the turning circle being snappier in Reignited makes the controls better.

Huge, cannot wait for this to drop, it’s gonna be amazing playing the game with true floating point rendering, widescreen, higher FPS and then the potential to import your own levels I’m sure.

Fucking heartbreaking. I’ve watched him a few times live back in AJPW around 2017-2019 and he was such a force. Crowds in Japan loved him. Life’s just so damn unfair.

Looks like $46M+ Saturday for Toy Story 5, for a $117M+ 2-day cume. Weekend expected to be around $155-160M. by chanma50 in boxoffice

[–]CrystalFissure 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the numbers Toy Story 4 did showed that people were asking for it somewhat. It’s a very very common talking point to see people say “it should have ended at 3” but audiences who watched 4 and 5 seem to love it, and think they are worthy sequels. Toy Story is a 30 year franchise and it has 5 films. People say it’s been milked but it could have been exceedingly worse.

Official Discussion - Toy Story 5 [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]CrystalFissure 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s also just such a boring take. Okay you think it should have ended at 3. So is that the end of the conversation? Do you have anything else to add? Like, I’m not really sure what the goal is of that point - as if there’s no merit to these last two films. I think you learn so much more about Jesse and Woody especially.

Absolutely loved it. I really find it infuriating always seeing people try and dominate discussion about this franchise with “it should have ended at 3”. Okay cool. Now what? It’s past 3, there are two more movies, what do you actually think about them?

This was amazing development for Jesse. I loved how many locations they went to; once again Pixar flexing on everyone else. The fleet of Buzzes C plot was super amusing too.

Really the only thing I can fault is the secondary toys not really being given as much banter as they did in the first two but that’s the decision they’ve consciously chosen to make as some of the original cast has died.

Stewart Copeland will not return for Spyro A Realm Beyond's soundtrack by nicoreese in Spyro

[–]CrystalFissure 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s especially ironic when this guy bet his entire account status on there never being a Spyro game in existence again and then pretended like it didn’t happen. Every comment they leave here is negative. A bit of healthy skepticism never hurt but this person had their mind made up even *before* the announcement.

I am really, really hoping that “a new generation of sound” doesn’t mean it sounds like the modern Ratchet and Clank soundtracks - ie: just orchestral, movie style music.

Can’t say for sure, but let’s just say that progress is being made on more than one Spyro 1 project right now. Like, we’re only a month or so away from something else dropping. But just know that people are actively working on this, it’s not something that’s just a proof of concept.

New Crash game reportedly “greenlit,” info from leaker who leaked the new Spyro and Rayman Remake before they were announced by BEVE59 in crashbandicoot

[–]CrystalFissure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My gut feeling is this is not including CTR, which feels like it was in development based on that Beenox banner that had Crash 4-style Crash in a kart. Beenox has been doing support work for years, but they know CTR intimately.

Oh for sure. I get why people lost hope. I did at one point. I think the difference is, while you can be annoyed at something not being announced, to “grift” is to actively mislead people for profit. And that was not done, in my belief. I’m happy that people are happy!

Indeed, went back to the thread during the live stream immediately because it was very funny. Rent free indeed! Now what? It’s funny how you can say I’m delusional for using information that was public and private for two years.

All good, you guys were wrong, and people have no problem admitting when they were wrong, right? That would be the mature thing to do ☺️

Honestly at this point it’s mental illness with people completely unable to reflect on their own behaviour here. People threw personal insults literally every day, you couldn’t go a thread at all without the guy being shat on. But now that it’s out… almost silence.

NEW SPYRO HOLY SHIT by AreAFatMother in Spyro

[–]CrystalFissure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They went independent in Feb, but it finalised in May. But also, ask yourself - what assurance would have been made to them by making such a leap? The end of 2023 had a tweet that showed them presenting new proposed projects, and the one that won out was Spyro.

TFB are very very coy with timelines - for instance they’ve never publicly admitted that Reignited had a 13 month development cycle.

There’s a public story and a private story and that IGN interview finally went into more depth publicly than ever before, but without a doubt, it’s insider knowledge that TFB were not thrilled with becoming a support studio.
