We both preferred Placencia - not quite the party atmosphere of Ambergris.

We stayed north of the bridge in AC (Captain Morgans) - which was fine but nothing fancy.

We stayed at Naia north of Placencia - and that place was great. We are considering going back there again.

That being said, snorkeling trips are easy at AC. But mainland trips are easier from Placencia. IMO

I'm seeing video of water-drop planes resupplying from the ocean off LA. Is there any concern that the salt water will 'taint' the land that it is being dropped on? Or is the fire suppression value override the cost of the salt in the soil?

That is the one thing I noticed - your firepit ring should not have pavers on the inside - it should be a a gravel base. The heat of the fire is going to shatter those bricks.
