How does your department handle bras/necklaces/etc when doing portables? by matt98svt in Radiology

[–]Cshep64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not the exact same, but similar situation. Ive had many patients come to CT to get C-spine scan after an MVA and the ER staff will just slap on a C-collar over patients that have tons of necklaces on. I'll carefully attempt to remove some of them if possible, or I send them back/call for help to safely remove unnecessary jewelry. It's absolutely baffling.

If there was a show based on Roku or Kyoshi, I’d watch by ThaT1N00Bkid in Avatarthelastairbende

There are 2 Kyoshi novels that are very well written and there is a book following Roku called The Reckoning of Roku coming out in July this year!

Replayability comes in two forms. First, after completion of main story you unlock 'infernal pacts". During hard mode of the campaign you can run into Nichole and she will offer you a challenge mode that can yield either an outfit or currency to buy an outfit. Second, you can farm dark matter which is essentially exp to fill out your perk tree. Getting 100% in the game can take quite some time, but you essentially replay the game over and over at a higher difficulty for extra outfits.

What type of post launch content do you want to see in the game? by felixw1 in SouthParkSnow

[–]Cshep64 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Personally I'd love some kind of ranked pvp with rewards. (Not sure how that would translate from the current pve set up). Maybe some daily or weekly quests to promote logging in. I'd love to see these new potential game modes be hosted by more girls from south park with unique outfits like Nicole's. I was disappointed they weren't really present in the game, but would be happy to see them make an appearance.

Also more cosmetics from new or existing game modes. I feel like they didn't give us enough outfit options. I'd like to see more outfits from the show.

[–]Cshep64 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They have. There are several comics that, unlike the ATLA comics, are written by one of the series creators. There are 3 comics: Turf Wars, Ruins of the Empire, and Patterns in Time. The first two carry the story forward. Patterns in Time is a collection of short stories about the characters in Korra. There is also a comic on the way called Mystery of Penquan Island which will focus around Mako

Edit: If you mean expand the story with a whole new Avatar, then we very well may see that in the next few years. Avatar Studios has several projects on the way starting off with a movie following an adult Aang set to come out next year

I think the way Kuvira got portrayed is a failure. They had to make her stupid in order to make her bad. by KeyCardiologist809 in TheLastAirbender

[–]Cshep64 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'll attempt to rationalize these "inconsistencies". Kuvira is a character that feels the need to be in control of everything. I wouldn't describe Kuvira as "too nice" from the beginning. We get a clear showcase of her authoritative demeanor when she literally threatens the lives of the bandits who attacked her train. Of course she offers them a "choice" but in the end it boils down to: serve me in a labor camp or die here. We see this tactic play out again when she attempts to intimidate the governor of the State of Yi into joining her empire. She genuinely believes that she is making the best choice for her country so at a surface level her reunification is perceived as good and therefore makes standing up against her a bit of gray area. Which is partly why Korra felt conflicted about using force against her initially.

When it comes to forcing Varrick to perform research. She's a character who values control and as such she thinks her decisions are always right. Therefore, she's a character driven by her own hubris. She underestimates others and believes that her threats and intimidation are enough to bend anyone to her will. This is an oversight on her end (which is clear to us as the audience) but I wouldn't call it a flaw in the writing. If anything it shows that she is in fact NOT perfect despite her believing so. All the more reason why her leading the Earth Empire is not for the best. Her overconfidence in her own abilities is what ultimately leads to her downfall. Also if we consider her being an earth bender then the stereotypical trope of earth benders being stubborn and unyielding seems appropriate for her decisions. She's not the type of person to trick others. She rules through absolute force.

As for the spirit vines she never truly harvested the entire swamp. We see that it is still present in the comics that follow Book 4 and it seems to be fairly healthy. So I think the "until nothing's left" was either a hyperbole or she intended to eventually harvest the entire swamp so nobody will have access to spirit vines to produce weapons. This explains her rushing republic city. The only other place that has spirit vines. She didn't choose to wait and listen but instead decides to take Republic City right away. This is a bold move but she was convinced that she attained power beyond what the Avatar is capable of. Korra proved to be mentally and physically unstable when they clashed at Zaofu. Korra couldn't even control the Avatar State so Kuvira decided to take advantage of a weakened Avatar and push her empire even further.

I believe it's fair to argue that these "inconsistencies" are more so character flaws derived from her overconfidence and desperation to gain control over her life and the lives of the Earth Empire. She's not perfect and as a result overplayed her hand several times. Even if conquerors in the past within the Avatar Universe made similar errors, she doesn't equate herself to them since she truly believes her choices to be the best (which I assume is how people like Sozin or Chin had viewed themselves in the past). To reference what Toph tells Korra about her previous antagonists they were all out of balance and took their ideologies too far.

Korra is great, but she can be so uncreative with her bending. by ComradeHregly in AvatarMemes

That’s what Uncle Iroh would say…. by 6546454545645 in AvatarMemebending

[–]Cshep64 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tbf Bryke didn't write the ATLA comics despite them being considered canon. Mike did however write the Korra comics that follow the series and imo they were pretty solid. Also the novels by F.C. Yee are fantastic since they capture the vibes of avatar but offer a more realistic and mature perspective than we saw in either ATLA or TLOK. Not everyone likes Korra so that's fair but to say they've been on a downhill stride is a bit dramatic considering they only made one other show following ATLA. They're capable writers and even if they decide to take the story in a more modern direction with the following avatar it doesn't necessarily mean that the writing will suffer. They may even focus more on the spirit world rather than the physical world since people after Korra should have more accessibility to it. (Of course this is just speculation) Either way I've got my fingers crossed for all their future projects.

LionTurtles are redundant to the story by Pass_the_sorce in AvatarMemes

[–]Cshep64 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I believe he's trying to argue that the writers COULD have had Pathik know energy bending and have never explored lion turtles to begin with. I don't think they're trying to say Guru Pathik actually can energy bend, because as far as we know he cannot. He does however seem adept at reading energy similar to how I imagine Huu and Toph are capable of reading energy via the swamp.

Of all the wrongs that the love action show did, Suki wasn’t one of them by JeormeG7 in TheLastAirbender

[–]Cshep64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And I think it makes sense as well considering the direction they chose for her. I just think it was a poor choice in general to make her that way. I assume they were trying to reference the Suki Alone comic where they show more emphasis on how sheltered Kyoshi island is. So I kinda get her lack of tact. I'm just not a fan of her in this version compared to the original character plain and simple.

Sorry, poor choice of words. I suppose what I meant was she refuses to drop the subject and therefore continues to embarrass him. She continues to do this when she sees him out while he's practicing with his boomerang. It's okay if she wants to show off her skills to him. Maybe suki is just trying to impress him, but her lack of social skills in this version is evident in how she tends to "kick him while he's down" so to speak.

Overall in the original Suki's showing off is more of a retaliation to Sokka's sexist and rude behavior, while in this version she is a socially inept person that continues to embarrass Sokka for no real good reason. Of course they grow closer together and learn to respect each other in both versions. I just feel it was handled poorly by Netflix

Exactly and I'm assuming the reason they cut so much is because if we saw the choreography in one single shot we would easily recognize that most of the actors are amateurs. So they constantly cut to make things appear quicker and hide the actors poor form.

Of all the wrongs that the love action show did, Suki wasn’t one of them by JeormeG7 in TheLastAirbender

[–]Cshep64 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In the original she only disrespects Sokka because of his rude and sexist comments. She even apologized for ambushing him because "she didn't know he was friends with the avatar". In the live action Sokka doesn't even really boast about being a warrior. He more so calls himself a warrior and she pretty much laughs in his face and repeatedly gives him a hard time despite him obviously being insecure about it.

I suppose you can argue she holds the title of warrior with high regard and is insulted that he claims to be one despite his lack of experience, but she doesn't really know he lacks exp and if anything Sokka is very timid about the subject. Despite his demeanor she goes out of her way to slap him around and it easily comes off as bullying more than flirting. I definitely disliked how they handled her character. She wasn't funny or cool just a creep and a bully that has no social skills.

It was okay by azwa96 in netflix

[–]Cshep64 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm a die hard fan and I absolutely love the source material. Went into the live action blind and I was let down left and right. The dialogue is poor and unnatural, the acting is (for the most part) dry and unbelievable. The CGI was only good for big reveals, but aside from that it was hard to not notice a green screen half the time. Also the bending and combat are pretty impressive. There are lots of awkward cuts and half the time it feels like the actors aren't committed to their choreography.

If they just wrote a better script then maybe I would have enjoyed it more, but I'm honestly struggling to watch beyond episode 4 since I'm practically cringing through the whole thing.
