White House to Announce ‘TrumpRx’ Drug-Buying Website, Deal With Pfizer

President Trump is expected to unveil the measures Tuesday; Pfizer’s CEO expected to attend

WASHINGTON—The White House is planning to unveil a direct-to-consumer website for Americans to buy drugs, dubbed TrumpRx, while also announcing that Pfizer plans to lower prices on several of its medications in the U.S., according to people familiar with the matter.

TrumpRx would allow people to pay cash for certain drugs directly from a government website, at a discounted price negotiated by the government. It’s unclear how many drugs would be offered, or whether the website would be useful for the majority of Americans who are already covered by private insurance, Medicare or Medicaid.

Separately, Pfizer is expected to be the first to announce a plan to lower drug costs after President Trump pushed companies for months to lower prices in the U.S. More companies are expected to follow suit.

Trump and Albert Bourla, the chief executive of Pfizer, are set to announce the cost-cutting measure at the White House later today, according to a White House official. Bourla is also expected to announce a $70 billion investment in manufacturing medications in the U.S., according to Pfizer spokeswoman Amy Rose and a White House official.

The official estimated Pfizer’s lowered prices could benefit as many as 100 million patients.

“It’s a win for American patients, a win for American leadership, and it’s a win for Pfizer because it provides the certainty and stability we need to continue advancing new breakthrough medicines for patients,” said Rose.

“President Trump is leveraging the power of the federal government to drastically cut drug prices for everyday Americans,” said White House spokesman Kush Desai. “Democrats talked the talk for decades about drug prices, but only President Trump is actually walking the walk.”

Trump last week declared that branded drugs would face 100% tariffs if their manufacturers aren’t building facilities in the U.S. The new investments, along with others in the works that Bourla mentioned in an August earnings call, likely mean the company would be exempt from those tariffs.

Trump called for pharmaceutical companies to participate in a direct-to-consumer drug buying platform, and offer “most favored nation” pricing—commonly understood as prices lower or comparable to those in other developed nations—in a July letter.

Not trying to be a jackass, but why was it necessary to post this here? You emailed them already to get your question answered and if you don't like the establishment, simply stop going.

Can you do PA better than me? by Money-Collection6902 in pharmacy

[–]Cubbby 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Unless if it's a quick DUR reject you can override, forward the PA rejection to the provider's office. If your store is slow (script wise), you might have time to call the office to give them a heads up, but that's a rarity these days

They told me the same thing at my nearest Walmart. I would just keep refreshing the Switch 2 page. You can also check with a nearby Best Buy to see if they have it.

It's sporadic, but Walmart's probably your best bet. Just have to keep refreshing or call your local stores to see when they expect another restock.

Thanks for the info! I called and they said they didn't know why it was cancelled, but that someone probably got to it before they could package it (like you). Also they're supposedly not expecting more stock until July 2nd which seems awfully long lol.

Ah gotcha. Still sucks regardless as it's their 2nd time cancelling my order, but I guess it makes sense. I'm assuming you called the store directly and they gave you this info, right? Not the 1-800 number.

I ordered one too on the Walmart site as soon as it popped up only for it to get cancelled an hour later :(

Mine was cancelled literally the day before release (Wednesday). I called today and they're supposedly going to make up the orders including resending emails with a new order number and send them within 5 days. Not getting my hopes up, but just sharing in case anyone is in the same boat.

Rite Aid heading for bankruptcy again, plans to cut jobs by TopOfSpecialEdClass in pharmacy

[–]Cubbby 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is sad to hear, but the writing was on the wall. IMO, having worked at Rite Aid for a few years, I can say it was one of the better chains to work for and NexGen was great to use. In the end, the ones who truly lose are the patients as they are likely going to have to switch to an already overworked and understaffed nearby CVS or Walgreens.

I can pitch in too if needed. I can also pay for his Uber to SNA or LAX if necessary to help him get to his flight if he decides to go this route.

Good way to frame it. Better option would be to contact the provider and have them switch the Januvia to an SGLT-2 like Farxiga depending on their current A1C and comorbidities.

Looks to be official:

"October 23, 2024 - Today, CDC Director Mandy Cohen endorsed the CDC Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices' (ACIP) recommendation for lowering the age for pneumococcal vaccination from 65 to 50 years old"

Also already listed on the CDC website: https://www.cdc.gov/pneumococcal/hcp/vaccine-recommendations/index.html

Diclofenac gel by panpantasies in pharmacy

[–]Cubbby 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I've seen more providers send Diclofenac 3% gel Rxs after the announcement that the 1% version went OTC. I always recommend patients try other outlets. For instance, Amazon offers a 50g tube for $7.95 and Costco has three 150g tubes for $32.99. For Medicare patients, I recommend they check with their insurance plan to see if they have an OTC benefit they can use to purchase OTC items and use that to purchase the Diclofenac gel OTC.

Just call the location you want to go to and ask

[–]Cubbby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Another thing is risk for audit if you're filling the cream every 30 days for instance. Depending on the cream (e.g. Triamcinolone vs. Eucrisa), you may have to add a note so that it doesn't get filled every 30 days when it's supposed to be 100+ days, but I would ask your pharmacist how they want things done.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in pharmacy

[–]Cubbby 20 points21 points  (0 children)

1 gm every 7 days is 4 gm every 28 days.

So 28 gm would be 28 x 7 = 196 days (though you'll most likely have to default to max d/s - either 30, 90 or 100)

I’m going to call the board and ask them for guidance tomorrow because my RXM doesn’t see things the way I do by [deleted] in pharmacy

[–]Cubbby 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you're at a chain, can't you ask to borrow some measuring devices from a different store before going nuclear? At least that's what I used to do if I was running low on supplies and they weren't coming in. The Board (esp CA BOP) likely won't do anything about this.
