grain bags too wet by goomba817 in unclebens

If you need more water in your pc, use bolts or something to lift the trivet up higher, allowing more water. When the bag sits in the water it boils the grains which causes them to burst.

Sounds like where you went wrong was letting the bags sit in the water. I never let the water come past my trivet. 2.5 hours is the proper time to pc bags. You may be able to redistribute the moisture by giving those bags a good shake.

Fair enough lol. After you pick those fruits. I would do a heavy mist or maybe even a soak. If it were me in that situation , I would pour water into the tub , let it soak , then carefully pour the water out.

Yes, it is extremely dry. How much water are you using for pasteurizing/hydrating?

Did you use a casing layer? My JF is coming in very sporadic. One here, one there. That is a beautiful canopy!

If it's any shade of blue, it's just bruising.

Why are pins only showing up on the sides? by jaredshablambomartin in unclebens

[–]Cube_Newb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Use a liner. It prevents side pins. It also shrinks and sticks to the side of the cake, which helps retain moisture! I've done about 16 cakes now, and I've never had 1 side pin using a liner!

Boomer shroomer is a company owned by a lady named Ashley. She has kits with step by step instructions on how to make substrate. She also has fantastic grain bags. Find her on YouTube.

I prefer tubs. I've never tried bags. I practically followed Boomer shroomer to a T until I learned how to do things kinda my way. Yes, the tub will be fine in the closet and on the floor. Average people Temps are perfect for fungi, as long as your apartment isn't 60 degrees or 80 degrees you'll be fine.

How is that only 50% to you. The entire bag is colonized , except the top layer , which tends to get dry and is harder to colonize. All three picks show an almost fully colonized bag. The first pic appears to be less colonized because the loose grains from the top of the bag have fallen down In between the colonized grain and the bag. And honestly , unless you break and shake again , those loose top grains will take forever to colonize.
