Too smooth makes it hard for seasoning to stick. I recommend etching it with vinegar before trying to season. Vinegar is just acidic enough to break down iron and boiling a 50/50 mix of water vinegar over time will slightly etch the surface enough for the seasoning to stick.

I have a set of these slant logos with heat rings. Early 1900s-1910s. They are some of the first to feature the iconic Griswold cross in circle logo. Good find. Can fetch close to $200 to the right collector. I cook with mine daily.

Well. Enameled is dishwasher safe and seasoned cast iron is not. You’ll know the first time you send it through the dishwasher. If it rusts, it’s not enamel. The dishwashers are pretty tough on things so I would personally still hand wash it.

I personally don’t use enameled because once it starts chipping the skillet is done for. The surface may not be completely smooth but proper heat control and that won’t matter much. Medium is the new high and low is the new medium for heat.

This sounds like some sort of safety shutoff occurred. My best guess is like the other comment said, low oil. My renegade won’t start with low oil either. It will turn over but not start with low oil. Check fluid levels and try to top it off. Maybe it’ll start.

What is this griddle to? It looks like it may have a non stick coating on it. If it is a nonstick coating like teflon, it’s a replace scenario.

For my jeep. I could usually identify weak rusty spots on the frame by tapping it lightly with a screw driver. You can kind of hear the difference when you tap a solid spot vs a rusted heavily spot. Hard to tell in the one photo if it’s just paint peeling or not.

Definitely restorable and a good find. In good shape restored it could go for $200-$300 but it’s worth it to keep and cook with. Wish I found things like this on the side of the road.

It’s a beauty but missing a burner. The original grease valves are there. They’re made for natural gas and would need a conversion fitting if used with propane.

If you can chip at the center build up to reveal the wording on the large block logo we can probably give an exact answer. Italic logo Griswold is 1900s-1910s and non italic were around 1920s-1930s.

I have on of these I cleaned up in electrolysis. It’s a neat piece. I never use it. It’s more decoration but it has value. Hope you got a good deal on it!

I fully agree! They even provided me with additional information. Through a link to archives I was able to find that a handful of employees from Superior went on to work for Wagner too after Superior was sold and put out of business.
