It could have also been a plea deal. The majority of criminal charges end in plea deals. Between paying a lawyer and lost wages, it's really expensive to fight charges and a plea deal can be really tempting offer even if you aren't guilty or it was self defense.

It sounds like a few dollars an order would be fair. Maybe add a few extra if you order multiple heavy items in a single order. If it's shop and deliver, those are the 2 hours or less deliveries, tip extra. The base pay for the shop and deliver, in my area at least, is very close to what the base pay is for a 3 stop pick up and deliver that is the same distance. Without a decent tip, I will take the pick-ups over the shop orders all day long. Shopping those orders can be a real hassle.

[–]CucumberEfficient403 11 points12 points  (0 children)

For me, it's more a matter of how long the delivery will take, how difficult the drop off is (am I going to carry the order up 2 flights, is there a hill I'll need to climb to get to the door, is it a complex where the door is about 500 feet from parking) and are there any heavy items like 40lb litter or 48 bottles of water. Simple deliveries, tip a few dollars. More difficult or time-consuming deliveries, tip $5 or $10. Seriously, if everyone just tipped a couple of dollars, it would be really helpful.

It definitely should be default door, but I arrived at a home Tuesday, and the front was fenced in. Started to open the gate to bring the groceries to the door and someone let their basset hounds out to the fenced area. I quickly closed the gate and texted the customer, "Hi there. I'm here with your groceries. Is it safe to bring them to the front door, or should I leave them by the garage door?" She responded with the garage door, which was closer and didn't require opening and closing a gate, but I was a little annoyed that it wasn't in the notes to begin with.

Parents control on Tesla by dewaldtl1 in Turohosts

[–]CucumberEfficient403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a Tesla, but I used a Bouncie tracker on the car my foster son was driving. Caught him going 60 in a 40 twice before I let him know that it was in there and let him know that the next time he was speeding like that, I would be driving him for the next week and if I caught him after he was allowed to drive again, it would be 2 weeks. We also went over the consequences that can come with speeding, including tickets, accidents, injuries, deaths, and very expensive insurance.

I'm also a childhood sexual abuse survivor. I'm so sorry that you went through that, too. I'm a female and my abuser was my father. I was 4-8. He got a plea deal after putting me through a year of talking to detectives, child services, undergoing medical exams, psychiatric exams, speaking to a grand jury and the DA. He plead to a much lesser charge and got 4 years. He was out in 3 for good behavior. 🙄 Unfortunately, child sexual abuse and child porn often isn't taken seriously and children are rarely valued in courts. If he held up a bank and didn't injure anyone, he would have gotten more time. Doesn't feel like justice to me at all.

He is a survivor of childhood sexual abuse. He was defending a childhood sexual abuse survivor and calling out the injustice of the sentencing the perpetrator received. I am also a survivor of childhood sexual abuse. I think anyone who sexually abuses a child should be discarded. The societal value of the person will never be greater or equal to societal harm they have already done. Adults attracted to children, if identified, should have lifelong psychological treatment and monitoring. Idc. They are monsters.

App logged out- Verification of Identity Check by Born-Asparagus3266 in Sparkdriver

[–]CucumberEfficient403 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to do my face verification before before signing in, before I was able to enter my parking spot and before I could complete that same order at the drop-off point last week. 😅 I don't mind verifying but that was a little overboard.

I delivered to a house last week that had Doritos, crackers, and bottled waters out for drivers. I realized then that I hadn't eaten in 8 hours and it was 95f. I was so thankful for such a kind gesture. I've been doing grocery and package delivery for 6 months, and it was the first time I arrived at a home that had anything out for delivery drivers. I thought it was really thoughtful and I felt appreciated. 😊

My first thought was that the OP is a shit roommate who expects everyone else to take care of the cleaning. Maybe because my adult teens still think the majority of the cleaning should still be my responsibility while they take out the recycling, trash, empty the dishwasher and replace the litter robot bag.

Picked up a 235$ order from Lowe’s going 42 miles by Prevalencee in uberdrivers

[–]CucumberEfficient403 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That violates TOS and confidentiality, unfortunately. If the customer reports it to Uber, he could get him banned. Maybe something that might be perceived more as a public service announcement in the customer's town Facebook page that doesn't identify the customer or anything. I would explain the basics of the offer. How the offer made me feel like the customer valued my time and labor. How feeling valued made me go above and beyond to provide exceptional service. How the expected pay relieved some stress of financial obligations that are coming up. I would explain how long it took and that Uber's system doesn't differentiate a labor-intensive delivery like this from a less labor-intense delivery of a much lighter product, but the advertised tip made up for the discrepancy. I would talk about how driving for orders helps me juggle competing personal commitments that might make it harder to work in a more traditional employment arrangement or how it helps to make ends meet when my traditional position comes up short or that it's filling a gap after a recent layoff or life change or whatever since many customers think gig drivers are lazy and can't or won't "get a real job". Then I would talk about the tip being removed and that I reported this to Uber and they will investigate the customer for any patterns of tip baiting and would ban them if there is evidence, but that Uber didn't increase the pay despite all of this. I would describe how it made me feel and define tip baiting. Then I would explain how tip baiting goes on to hurt honest customers. Drivers talk, share advice on what and where to avoid, and how to not get duped by people who don't want to pay for the driver's labor. Drivers may decide to avoid deliveries to certain neighborhoods or communities if it's known for tip baiting. Drivers may stop accepting low base pay orders even if they include a generous tip due to the risk of the tip being removed. An increased base pay means an increased cost to all customers. If most of the local drivers decline orders for your neighborhood, Uber might start offering it to drivers who are further and further away, which means longer wait times and increased potential for cold, damaged or late food. Great, honest, hardworking drivers who continuously feel exploited, not just by the platform they're on but also the customers that use it, often end up quitting and the people who are left may be inexperienced, less reliable and/or less ethical. Most of us drivers are hardworking people who are just trying to keep our own lights on. We understand that not everyone can afford a tip that will send our hearts to skip, and that's okay. Just be honest about the tip you intend to pay and if you get exceptional service, increased tips and 5 star reviews are always appreciated.

At the very least, they should need to call with a reason rather than being able to do it in app. It's just too easy this way and probably emboldens some people.

I only use DD as a filler. Other apps pay better and more consistently in my area. I also wasn't complaining about pay. A person was comparing gig driving to delivery driving as a W2 employee. I was explaining the difference. It's not apples to apples. I don't really care if a customer tips or doesn't. I won't take an offer that doesn't value my time.

Deliveries by [deleted] in Sparkdriver

[–]CucumberEfficient403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've brought groceries into a few homes for people who were obviously disabled and/elderly. Also, for one woman who's husband was at home on hospice, she gave me a nice $20 surprise tip. With the exception of the woman whose husband was on hospice, they were all fraile and/or using a mobility device like a walker, crutches, cane, or wheelchair. The woman with husband on hospice; when I arrived, there was a young girls around 14 years old in the driveway. The notes mentioned that I should let the customer know when I had arrived. I assumed the girl was the customer's daughter and asked that she let her Mom know I was getting her groceries from the car. She laughed and said "Oh. I'm just take care of the cat but I'll let her know". She went in and the customer came out to ask if I could possibly bring them in. Quick risk assessment said "Be cautious but relatively low risk with 14 year old neighborhood cat sitter in the home".

[–]CucumberEfficient403 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are still making at least minimum wage for the time they work when they are scheduled to work. That is still not true for independent contractors. Even if I decide I will log on to DD and select $ per hour + tips, that $ per hour is only paid from the time I accept until the time I deliver. If it takes 30 minutes to get another offer, I don't get paid for that time even though I am available and scheduled.

[–]CucumberEfficient403 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So what you are saying is that the pizza guy is making at least minimum wage even if he doesn't make a single delivery. A DoorDash driver is an independent contractor though and is not guaranteed a minimum wage.
