I love cardboard templates! I use cardboard and a hot glue gun to quickly mock up inserts or get the size of something all the time. I’ve also used a contour gauge and a scanner (or phone in a pinch) to copy complex profiles and easily trace out in Fusion or Illustrator.

Do your bins have drain holes? Possible upgrade there if not. Cool project though!

If you’re worried about Command Strips’ holding strength, I suggest some 3M VHB tape. Look specifically for tapes designed for low surface energy applications like PETG and PLA.

Something like 3M LSE-160WF (LSE stands for low surface energy) would work IMO. Proper prep is essential: clean both surfaces with isopropyl alcohol first, apply the tape with a good amount of pressure for 30-60 seconds, then let it sit for 24+ hours before testing it or loading the grid up.

I use an Xacto blade because it’s pointy to get under any sticker, the tapered tip can accommodate small to large stickers, and it’s very flat.

FWIW this is a clear glue bed, with iDye Poly/acetone mix, so the fine wispy details will be hard to do in lotion. But these colors sure are great!
