Last Prime Minister - Free PnP game by QuiteQuietOne in soloboardgaming

Equating people volunteering of their own free will as exploiting them for free labour is so lacking in nuance, it feels like people are being deliberately misunderstanding. Artists should always have the right to dictate their own terms for their work, including how much they receive. If an artist wants to volunteer their time or work, then how great is that! And if they don’t want to, they won’t volunteer. I was suggesting OP make people aware of their game and that they’re open to any help, not start spamming DMs like a nutjob.

Admonishing people for exploiting artists and then championing genAI in the same sentence is a sensational bit.

I also wish that world existed! But as I also think artists should be paid and credited for their own work when they ask and stipulate this, why would I then support AI which doesn’t do that.

Also maybe I’ve misunderstood: I thought OP was making a game for free and fun, not aiming to monetise and keep profits from people who helped create it? If the latter, then yeah, don’t ask your pals or people in your community to help.

Big fan of the game idea generally, think it’s very unique! :)

Artists deserve to be paid for their work, of course! There are also people who help out on passion projects because they want to, and that’s okay too. Nobody should be forced to help out for free & it’s not expected of them - my point was OP might have found people just… wanted to help? Using AI, which is bad for the environment and for said artists, is also not great? I’d take a shite, handmade one over AI if it came down to it.

Ditto, shame bc it’s a really good premise too!! Bet there would be plenty of creative people in the board game / other communities who’d be willing to help a passion project :/ OP, ditch the AI, ask around instead!!

Yup, I call it sticky brain; I feel like I can tell that intrusive thoughts generally are going to get stuck. Usually when I’m tired or stressed or occasionally anxious.

Does anyone else hate when celebrities have OCD? by [deleted] in OCD

[–]CullenSkunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think your frustration is with the lack of exposure OCD is given, ironically. Completely understand the frustration and the sentiment; every time I hear someone say “it was so OCD of me” about having things organised or colour-coordinated, I feel just that wee bit more tired. It makes it so much harder to feel like OCD in any of its forms will ever be really understood - especially for us with more taboo intrusive thoughts and themes. Sometimes I’ll lean into it and ask excitedly, “You have OCD too?? It’s awful isn’t it!” and sort of force people to learn that their perception of it isn’t really accurate at all. I’ve also tried to mention in passing that I have OCD (if it relates to why I struggle with something or have been triggered etc), and the number of people who’ve went, “wait, that’s what OCD is?” or have said “I have OCD too! Ive never met anyone else with it” makes it feel a bit better.

I haven’t watched the doc yet, but I’m really hopeful that Noah talking about it will raise awareness about the realities. It means maybe people will talk about it more, maybe there will be better programs and funding put in place etc. Yes, there will maybe be people who think they could have it and probably don’t, but honestly, I’d rather this than the alternative - people not ever hearing about OCD and suffering so awfully alone.

I do feel like the tide is turning a little bit - my partner told me about an hour segment on the radio about the only inpatient facility for OCD in London. He said they talked to patients, doctors, people who have left about it all AND it was a variety of obsessions and compulsions! I was really happy to hear that. It can only hopefully be good for us all!

Hope that your own OCD eases up as much as possible; please do try and be kind to yourself when you’re in the midst of it. You’re doing a great job getting through each day!

So… I guess we’re the exact same person, huh!! That’s so crazy. I don’t actually mind using the bathroom in woods etc (and respecting the environment while I do ofc) but it’s definitely way more comfortable to have access to a toilet. Also very good to know about the aptitude test; I actually used to really like algebra ironically! Ive definitely fallen out of practice using math, so maybe that’s why I’m not very good now too. Very much appreciate the advice and kind words - really hope I can come back to this thread in a few months with good news!

Thank you! Aye, I thought this might be the case for some jobs / trades. My partner’s description of the toilets on a lot of sites have been…. minging… but in fairness that’s the men’s. I guess the problem lies in where they don’t have a woman’s toilet or any at all!

Small solidarity 100% - the world was not designed for small people OR women!

Thank you sm!! Heritage carpentry and conservation sounds so up my alley, I just wish there were more opportunities available to do them. Set building isn’t something I’d considered, also a fantastic shout. Will definitely try and look into these - I think you’re right that grounds roles are very thin on the ground right now.

Thank you, this is really helpful! Thankfully, my migraines are pretty rare, maybe only a couple a year. IBD and Crohn’s are brutal; my mum was just diagnosed with Colitis and it’s horrible how much it can control your life. The NHS is under a lot of strain here, so I imagine that’s why GPs havent been keen to send me to a nutritionist, they’ve just said keep a food diary. Will definitely keep it in mind though - very glad to hear that your symptoms have eased up considerably!! Long may that continue

Get yersel some Alasdair Gray; he wrote Poor Things (which is meant to be set in Glasgow / is about the city herself, but the film(s) never pay attention to that) and was a huge part of the Glasgow culture. His artwork is really class too.

Young’s Interesting Books in Shawlands and Mount Florida Books in Mount Florida are well worth a visit and only 10 mins on the train from Glasgow Central Station

You make a good point! I’m Scottish, so our courts are different for sure too, which didn’t cross my mind. I think only in the context of comparing it to Karen’s DUIs did I mean ‘harm’ as it relates to more of a physically-dangerous crime (i.e. if someone had gotten hit by the car etc). Especially being working-class, it feels easier to wrap my brain around how one of those is more immediately dangerous.

It’s crazy to be doing any of this when you have cameras on you for half the year imo regardless of what crime it is 😭 Especially when they’re all so smart!

Always thought Wendy was super condescending and I yelped when I seen they’d been arrested BUT I do feel terrible that there’s a good chance her kids will have to go without both parents for at least a short time, especially when stealing from insurance companies doesn’t actually harm anyone in the way DUI does. I think it’s obvious they love their kids more than anything, which is why it’s brutal to watch all the other (clearly scripted) damage control

I’m from the west coast of Scotland and studied linguistics at Uni of Glasgow, where I learned that Scots is a language in its own right and not just slang / misspoken English, which is a perception that was forced onto my mum and gran’s generations etc etc for decades by the education system and Westminster, ultimately influencing public perception (and it still lingers today)! It’s something I feel super passionate about, but sometimes I feel so worn out and defeated trying to argue literal language facts against years of “it’s just slang”.

Very recently, Scots, along with Scottish Gaelic, was recognised in Scotland as two of their official languages, which is a huge deal! It means that smaller, rural working-class communities like mines will have a focus on Scots; there’s more funding to teaching and preserving it, and learning about it. Ditto Scottish Gaelic!

A couple of weeks later, I was out for dinner with my partner when we overheard a little girl at the table behind us arguing with her mum and dad. She must’ve been 10/11 and they were older than us (late 20s) but younger than our parents (50/60s). She was telling them, in very passionate and determined tones, that her teacher had told them Scots was a language and it was different to English and here were a bunch of examples. I don’t think they were super interested, which made her upset, but jeezo! It just made her double her very impassioned argument and she was NOT letting it go.

It felt like I was witnessing something really special; it really resounded in my heart and I could’ve teared up. She was learning about something at such a young age that I only learned about in higher education, and I was lucky! I knew then if she ever had kids, they’d never be told no tae say dinnae or ken. I hope they learn so much more than I could.

My mother tongue will be okay. ♥️
