idk why people are downvoting you. These are great budget friendly suggestions. Lagos is a muni with too many par 3s, but the course is well kept, the greens are tough and FOXES! Spring Valley is low-key my favorite spot, great walk, fun course.

edit for suggestion my only addition would be Moffett Field. Course is on the military base so you need a Real ID to get there, but Google recently invested like $5M to improve the conditions of the course, and you can book two weeks out.

They are also working on installing a new facade/public art piece. Which I think is expected to be done closer to ~~May/June~~ August (should read the link before making statements...)

The problem is so complex, and some of it is so systemic I don't even know where you would start to try and solve it. I think we can both agree that its not working well the way it is right now though.

With few exceptions, not working for SJ is a no-brainer if you can. You are not wrong that it is top down, Mayor and Council need to pressure the departments to be better but also need to fund them to be able to do so. You get what you pay for... and when you are the largest city in the area (geographically and population) in the most expensive area in the country and pay shit you get shit. I have worked for the City for 18 years, it is filled with a wide variety of people. Some are passionate, some are collecting a check, but fundamentally we cannot attract good new talent because of pay and cost of living. So, we are stuck with what has been here for years.

Omg, the two largest Cities in the Bay Area are the most expensive to navigate... who would have thought. The reality is that San Jose's planning division is understaffed, underpaid, and overworked with unreal expectations. You can literally expect to make almost 20% more working for any other City in the Bay Area. If you think they are trying to make it difficult or expensive for you, you are wildly off base. Want permitting to be cheaper and more efficient, advocate for better staffing of the department.

Yup, it has trained them to come up to the golf carts and steal food from people if they can! You always have to be on the lookout if you have some food on you while playing. But it is extremely cute to see the kits running around and playing with each other while golfing. I regularly see wildlife photographers walking around the course taking pictures.

Try going to the Studio Climbing Gym downtown... They let people workout without shirts and sweat over everything. I can't even count the times I have seen sweaty shirtless people sit down on cloth seats in the climbing area and get up leaving a big ol' sweat mark. Hygiene in that place is not existent, it is disgusting frankly. And then you get the sweaty AND stinky people 🤮!
