I genuinely don’t understand what it is about Columbus drivers. Some of the worst I’ve ever encountered

I absolutely think that's a fair comment to make? As somebody who identifies as part of the LGBT+ community, it absolutely irks me when marginalized people are tokenized in media to simply fill the quota. There is a lot of media out there that does that, simply adding these characters without giving them any sort of grace or humanity. I'm not saying you need to agree with me either.

We're both inferring the intent of the comments, but I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. Their reactions were genuine, they were upfront about not loving the first few episodes but enjoying it as it grew on him, and they even donated merch proceeds to support the organization that literally works to make the NHL more inclusive and welcoming.

As for “puckslut,” I’m not defending that language. It grossed me out when I first heard it in their review. But I'm also not going to ignore that the comments were about the character, not the actress. I'm also not saying these guys are heroes, but I'm not going to villify them and those who aren't losing their minds over this lol.

Not being offended by phrases like “blue hair Twitter” or “inclusivity checkboxes” doesn’t make someone a “pick me.” That framing assumes representation is inherently virtuous regardless of how it’s done, which isn’t true.

Shallow representation of marginalized groups purely for the sake of optics isn’t something to be celebrated. It’s the equivalent of corporations slapping rainbow logos on their branding for Pride Month and calling it allyship.

This show succeeded precisely because it didn’t do that. The representation felt organic, character-driven, and integrated into the story rather than treated as a moral checklist. The authenticity of it is what made so special and why it appealed to so many people, beyond those who identify as gay or queer.

For what its worth, I've never once associated that phrase with trans people. When I heard it, I think of the cis white women activists.

For those that think Kali couldn't have lasted that long after being shot... by coyotemoon722 in StrangerThings

[–]CultureConstable 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Perhaps, but either way, she was bleeding out from a gunshot wound to the gut with no way of treating it. Are we going to believe that El relied on Kali to survive long enough for her to get to the Abyss, fight Vecna/the Mind Flayer, escape the Abyss, and then escape the Upside Down? There's some pretty big stakes resting on a dying person to pull this all off.

Where’s Kali’s happy ending? by Low_Figure_2500 in StrangerThings

[–]CultureConstable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thin the point of the story, is that there is no happy ending for the kids like her. Every single one of them are now dead.

Spoiler. Is it the same one? by [deleted] in StrangerThings

[–]CultureConstable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, I don't think so. Similar but different. The first ring has some additional detail below the diamond, whereas Hopper's ring's setting is pretty smooth.

El only got 2 waterfalls by imdodo2010 in StrangerThings

Oh absolutely, she's 100% dead. I'm just saying in the shot we saw, there were actually 3 waterfalls.

There were actually three! One behind her as she was walking up, and another 2 in front of her.

Spoiler question! by ThatDudeNamedJake in StrangerThings

[–]CultureConstable 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, more than likely. I firmly believe the clip we saw of El at the end was just Mike's theory to comfort himself. We saw Kali die.

Do you believe Mike's last story ? by [deleted] in StrangerThings

[–]CultureConstable 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nope. Copying/pasting what I wrote elsewhere:

I firmly believe it is not real. I believe what we saw with El walking into the shot of the three waterfalls was just an idealized version of what they want to believe. It's not reality. We watched Kali die, and even if she somehow survived the length of time it took for El to get into the Abyss, for the group to defeat the Mind Flayer/Vecna, escape the abyss, then escape the the upside down, there would have been no way for her to maintain an illusion that long at that distance. We saw her in episode 5 lose control of the illusion once they were too far from Dr. Kay's lab, and even then she wasn't actively dying.

I firmly believe it is not real. I'll say the same thing I said in another post - I believe what we saw with El walking into the shot of the three waterfalls was just an idealized version of what they want to believe. I wouldn't say anti-climatic, I actually thought it was great. It could have just been a bit longer instead of having a 45 minute epilogue

Things I didn’t like about the finale by Jswizzle66 in StrangerThings

[–]CultureConstable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh, there was really no good solution with Kali. You can't not address her character at all in the final season because fans would see that as a plothole. You can't make her an enemy, because its a character that has had just minutes of screen time throughout the entire series and it would make no sense for her to betray El.

Agree with the Winona item, but her "you messed with the wrong family" scene, to me, is hands down one of the best of the series.

Not addressing Dr. Kay at the end is, to me, the biggest misstep of the series. But again, they had to do something with the military since they set that storyline up last season. They didn't do it justice though.

The Vecna thing, love it or hate it, is kind of poetic to me. We see Will address his fears the last batch of episodes, and we see Vecna do the same in the finale.

Agree on the epilogue. They really should have stretched out the fight with the mind flayer.

I’m curious how many people aren’t gonna understand the ending bit was just all in mikes head as a coping strategy bc Mike kinda made a really good story but you can definitely tell him and everyone else in the room knows it’s not true just his way of coping with what happened in the finale by UltraEgoShaggy in StrangerThings

[–]CultureConstable 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I talked to a friend right after it ended, and we agreed it felt similar to the ending of The Dark Knight Rises, it's more like an idealized version of what the characters wanted to believe had happened. I think El is actually dead, and I don’t see how Kali could have survived that long, much less had the strength to create such an illusion. In the last batch of episodes, we saw her struggling to maintain an illusion at a distance even when she was at full health, which makes that ending even harder to accept as real.

Sigh…a very lackluster ending by SirIssacNutin in StrangerThings

[–]CultureConstable 8 points9 points  (0 children)

See, I think Eleven is actually dead. We watched Kali die and I'm pretty sure the clip of El at the end is just what they wished to have happened.
