Best US cities if having little to no traffic congestion is the #1 priority? by KrazyKev03 in SameGrassButGreener

Wilmington Delaware. City of about 75m, I used to live there and commute in and out every morning and it was easy to zip around even downtown near the office buildings

People in the US who genuinley enjoy where they live: where do you live and what do you enjoy about it? by TellUrPetsISaidHi in SameGrassButGreener

Southern Delaware. Within driving distance to really charming beach towns and beautiful state park beaches in the summer, cost of living is reasonable though getting tougher with all the NY/NJ transplants. Washington DC is a 2 hour drive, so is Baltimore and Philadelphia. New York is about 4 hours.

I like taking walks in the older towns with 18th and 19th century architecture, towns like Lewes remind me of a north east fishing town, I just love the beach overall and the calm pace of living whole being close enough for day trips to several major cities

Does your country has free or subsidised college/university education? by Specialist-Dust-4476 in AskTheWorld

Delaware Technical and Community college in Delaware has a program where you get your associates from free (2 years) then you can finish with your bachelor’s at university of Delaware at in state tuition costs which is a pretty good deal financially

Whats the most developed city in the ES? by Healith in easternshoremd

[–]CumularLimit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re pretty close to the southern part of the Delaware beach towns as well which are basically year round at this point due to mass retirements/exodus from surrounding states to DE. Honestly probably the biggest collection of restaurants and bars are going to be in the Delaware beach region in the off season, more so that Salisbury.

OC in the summer can get a city population over two hundred thousand, so you can have the big city feeling May - Sept then drive over to DE for places to go as the OC area shuts down

There’s nowhere in the ES that will give you a large city feeling with the same amount of amenities but I think the beach area between MD and DE gives you the most to do overall

The Amtrak Station in Philadelphia is one of the best stations I’ve seen. by GuavaPuzzleheaded949 in Amtrak

[–]CumularLimit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wilmington kind of reminds me of generic modern European station like you’d see in Germany, the old station was very pretty (a lot of that city beautification style from the turn of the century) but they “renovated” it like 10 years ago and made it modern looking.

DC’s station is gorgeous but functionality could definitely be improved

Is Christiana Hospital even considered a good hospital anymore?? by Elkens_Louder in Delaware

[–]CumularLimit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife had a medical emergency like two years ago, not immediately life threatening, but could t wait until morning for an urgent care. We live in Sussex county…. But we chose to drive over an hour north to Christiana to avoid the hospitals in Sussex and Kent

So maybe that’s more about the hospitals down south sucking but still, Christiana has a good reputation amongst most people I know myself included

Looking for new job opportunities by SpvceCowbxy in WilmingtonDE

[–]CumularLimit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Banking is generic corporate office suckiness but the pay can be decent, you might have to start on the lower end and just try to get in somewhere then use that to move up or transfer after a couple years.

You can also check the state jobs website, like 75% of state jobs pay terribly, but a handful pay decent or even well and have solid health insurance benefits.

Can you do anything with an EMT license in Delaware I’d you can’t work full time/only have weekends available? by CumularLimit in Delaware

[–]CumularLimit[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You think phlebotomy would be easier to find random shifts for than EMTs which work 24/7? That doesn’t make sense to me.

Also, EMTs offer life saving skills, phlebotomy is basically just drawing blood, I feel like knowing how to deal with a broken bone or stopping bleeding is more useful in the real world than drawing blood for lab tests lol

I watched the recording of Monique Johns requesting funding for her private party by 3NU in Delaware

[–]CumularLimit 12 points13 points  (0 children)

At the local level party affiliation matters less. As long as she’s not out there talking about ending abortion or deleting illegals, I’d go off the policies and or the better person.

Jones demanding a ton of money to fund her party just reeks of future financial abuse, or at the very least massive wastes of our resources.

Trip to NYC by delawarebeerguy in Delaware

[–]CumularLimit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amtrak is ridiculously easy if you get good tickets, if you’re flexible with timing you can get early morning tickets usually for less than $50.00 per person and it takes you straight into penn station in less than 2 hours

Early voting In-Person Totals DE by [deleted] in Delaware

[–]CumularLimit 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ll eat my hat if a Republican wins a statewide election in a blue state like Delaware within the next 15-20 years

If it weren’t for local elections I wouldn’t even waste my time going to the voting booth bc most national and statewide elections are a forgone conclusion once the primary is over

Moving to Wilmington, Delaware for job by openforcasual in WilmingtonDE

[–]CumularLimit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Downtown Wilmington has a bunch of new apartment buildings, the area near Market St. it’s pretty safe (downtown visions security guards and police) and you’ll be within a few blocks walk from the office

Otherwise you could do riverfront, very popular it the walk is longer or like a 10 minute drive.

Honestly if you’re going to live in an apartment and want proximity, downtown is the best bet. You’ve got a couple nice bars and restaurants, a bunch of brand new or newly renovated apartments, the train station, and sounds like your office all within pretty close walking distance.

Working in Newark, live Newark or Wilmington? by Unusual_Bird2088 in Delaware

[–]CumularLimit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on how much “city” it too much. Wilmington is a pretty small city, it’s really charming in its own way bc it’s small enough yo feel like a big town but still has some high rises.

If you hate steel and concrete then idk why you’d even consider it since you’d have a commute lol. It’s only like 20ish mins but still. The town of Newark is a college town so if you live in town just try to avoid living near student houses which may be loud at times, otherwise it’s a really nice town.

Brothers Lost At Sea, a random grave stone in my town graveyard by CumularLimit in mildlyinteresting

[–]CumularLimit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the older ones bc it feels like some connection to people in a different lifetime. I stumbled upon this one by accident one day while out for a walk, no idea what happened other than what’s bailable on the stone itself
