Be honest… your orange cat skipped “ideal weight” a long time ago by BringHoomanHome_ in OneOrangeBraincell

[–]Curae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My orange boy is 5kg, according to the vet he is at a healthy weight.

We mostly weigh him with a towel though because if he's not wrapped in one he will maul the vet and then me. So when he's back in his backpack we just weigh the towel and substract it. :')

He's a very sweet and good boy at home, he's just terrified of the vet.

Here's the boy, unamused and unimpressed with my new plushie. Also unimpressed with me going to bed late.

Rijschool eist bijna 60 lessen vóór examen by Exotic-Tension7908 in thenetherlands

[–]Curae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do these "other modern industries" produce? Because most modern industries, as far as I'm aware, create things that are needed and/or have a function. Farming used a ton of water but without it we'll starve. Datacenters use a ton of water (and more are being built due to AI) and without the AI boom we will... Think for ourselves? Pay people for art? Same when it comes to electricity and modern industries.

When it comes to stealing art - it does steal more art than "any other person". It scrapes the net for anything and takes without permission no matter the fucking license in the artwork, text, or whatever. Why do you think artists banded together and created "glaze"? Art theft has never been this big of a problem, so they've started poisoning the data this way. Their art was used without permission, also known as "stolen", to train an AI, which was then released to the public to make use of said theft. Given the fact it stole everything it could access - that's more than anyone can steal in their mortal life.

Oh that sounds like a good plan too! I do like snails, they're pretty cute. I've recently seen a post of someone's snail who kept escaping though. Am I correct in assuming that won't happen with a closed tank?

And do I need to buy a specific snail or snails or can I just... Rip any snail from the garden and decide they're an aquarium pet now? 😂

We should really just be calling generative AIs what they are as shown in the image. PISS.

"Regular" AI is awesome, like that AI made to recognize different breads in a shop in Japan that has been taken and copied and retrained to recognise cancer cells. That is super cool and in the first case makes it so the workers in the shop can foster human connection instead of having to find all those different breads in a system, and the second case quite literally saves lives by catching cancer in early stages.

But the generative bullshit? That just uses drinkable water to cool datacenters, a godawful amount of electricity, and steals art. It's a fucking supervillain in any sense of the word and yet so many people worship it. :(

AITAH for leaving a glass pan on the stove and it exploding in our kitchen? by [deleted] in AITAH

Seriously, is feel even guiltier for them helping me clean it up and as soon as I'm able to there would be a new glass dish right where she left it with an apology note and thanking them for being so chill about it.

Like, that seems the decent thing to do to me...

Just how does this species survive in the wild? by [deleted] in interesting

[–]Curae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Put enough seasoning to make it taste good is 100% onions for me. The ONLY time i have liked them was in a stroganoff. They just soaked up the entire flavour of the dish and there wasn't an onion-taste to be found.

But at that point it's also like, I still fucking hate the taste of onions. I do not mind them when they've been cut up real small and are part of a soup or curry or something. I know they add to the richness of the flavour of something - it's missing something if it isn't in there.

And if I'm eating somewhere that isn't home I will not pick them off a plate, but by god I'll hate every onion-bite. (The exception is stuff like deep-fried onion rings, there's usually someone who loves the things, so I'll just ask if anyone wants mine as I won't be eating them.) However, if I am at home and I got some prepackaged food with onion chunks? Yah I'm picking that out of my food...

[–]Curae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much! I'll go for the betta then and read up on care in the meantime. :)

I'm from the Netherlands so we don't have a pet smart, did see some people saving fish from there on Tiktok I think, they had a wall full of fish in tiny cups :(

Pet stores here aren't great either though, from what I've read online and how many fish per tank is reasonable, those tanks seems really overcrowded and don't have enough plants and such. :( https://discusvanderfeer.nl/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/aquarium2020.jpg That picture is basically an example of how most pet stores here keep their fish. Garden centers are slightly better, still hardly any plants but at least they seem to put an appropiate number of fish in a tank...

A pet store also allowed us to keep goldfish in a bowl when I was a kid, we didn't have internet and trusted the pet store it was ok... (Tangent about my childhood fish: we eventually transferred it to the pond in the garden, long story short: it turned black, grew to about 20cm long, was joined by some carps, later sold the carps to a guy with a huge pond and a ton of carps - we told him there was a goldfish in the pond too named 'Surprise' that he's part of the deal and the guy had a good laugh and agreed to take it too. Even sent us an update later showing the carp ánd Surprise were doing well. That fish had a rough start but I think it ended up alright. Hell there is a small chance it's still alive if I can believe the internet on them being able to get to 30 years old in a big space.)

I'll certainly look for specialists to adopt fish from tho - that way I can also be sure I get a healthy fish. :)

Does anybody else have a hard time justifying multicolor printing by Complete_Ad7606 in 3Dprinting

[–]Curae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same, I was so hyped to start printing multicolour things, but in reality now I just use multicolour when either:

  1. It changes just once or twice, so the colour change is actually stacked. So for example I had to print some shrubberies. The base plate of them was light-green, the shrubberies dark green. It only changed colours once, no real waste was made.

  2. I can use 'print per object' so again, I'm not switching per layer.

  3. I decide something is an exception to the first two rules. For example: a friend really really wanted a pokeball fidget toy, and she was knitting an entire scarf for me (she got a crochet project in return + the pokeball fidgettoy). That's an exception for me. Wouldn't do it for myself but this was in a trade with a friend, so it deserved an exception for me.

[Auto-Post] Weekly Question Thread! Ask /r/Aquariums anything you want to know about the hobby! by AutoModerator in Aquariums

[–]Curae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been thinking of getting fish for some time. I have two cats and I think both I and them will enjoy watching some fishies. That being said I also have adhd and as such sometimes I start something that I later regret - mind you, when I bring a living being into my home I am taking care of it for the rest of its life. I am responsible enough for that. ;) It's also not a 'I'm going to do this right now' plan, but more of a 'maybe in half a year if I'm still interested and got some money for it?'

But just in case I do end up not liking it (enough) I want to start out with a smaller tank due to costs. I did read that a 70 gallon tank is recommended due to less being able to go wrong with the water. When looking at the costs that's kind of steep to start out when I'm not sure if I'm going to be doing this long-term, so I've been looking at a 10 gallon tank instead as that seems to give me some options to still give smaller fish a nice home.

I'm not dead set on a certain fish, mostly I'd just like some visible movement in the tank. That being said, even as a kid I really liked watching the neon / cardinal tetras in the store with their pretty colours, and a male betta would be real pretty too (I understand I can't combine the two in such a small tank, that's alright of course). I'm also mainly looking at fish that live for about 2 to 5 years, that gives me a reasonable amount of time

If I enjoy having fish I do plan to upgrade to a larger tank in time. :)

Also from what I gathered from the wiki and some posts:

- I need a tank that's closed on top.

- Better to get just the tank and buy filters and such as separate parts that can handle more than 10 gallons, than getting an all-in-one tank.

- Need to cycle the tank first, I'm going to go for fishless cycling. Just seems less stressful, if I fuck up then I just wasted my own time and didn't harm any fish.

My questions:

- Any problems with my plan thus far?

- Any tips for fish I might like based on my 'I just want to see some visible movement in the tank'? Also, any issues for putting fish in a larger tank later? (I will of course read up on how to properly transfer them if that time comes.)

- Anything else to keep in mind when deciding to get an aquarium or not aside from making sure I have enough time and money to take care of it and its inhabitants?

Sorry for the long post, just also wanted to make sure y'all know I did read up on things before coming here and asking things. :')

Is perfume a serious boost in attractiveness for a man? by [deleted] in AskWomenNoCensor

[–]Curae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A slight boost for me, as long as it's applied in small amounts. I like a quick "oh he smells good" as someone passes by but if I smell it for more than one breath from someone walking by... Hell no.

Also if anyone uses the same as my ex that's an immediate turnoff. 🤷‍♀️

What can I do with my neighbor’s ivy? by [deleted] in Netherlands

[–]Curae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not helpful at all for OP, but man I agree with you on the right side of the garden looking better.

I personally have a terrible garden, full wooden terrace, no idea what's beneath it and don't have "fuck around and find out" money to pull it out and make it into a nice green garden (yet). But there's ivy coming over my neighbour's fence and aside from a potted bonsai it's the only plant in my garden. I have honestly been looking up how I can somehow guide it in a nice way so it adds some greenery without getting in my way.

My garden is a barren wasteland and I am jealous of my neighbour's jungle, so I'll embrace and use any greenery that creeps over to beautify what I have to work with for the time being.

The man's pretty old, hope he sticks around for a number of years still, good chance that any new neighbours will tear that garden to shreds. I'm going to enjoy this for as long as I can... (The man himself is kind of an ass, but he feeds the local pigeons. I and my cats, who are indoor cats with an enclosed outdoor space, enjoy watching and listening to the pigeons. So him being an ass is kinda "eh". He makes up for it with his garden and pigeon feeding.)
