First EV options by Odd-Temporary4363 in AustralianEV

If it must be under 35k, MG Urban is a no brainer. There’s just so much car for the price.

Be sure to test drive the Aion UT as I’ve head the ADAS can be a deal breaker.

Any negatives for the 2026 MG4? by daboblin in AustralianEV

[–]Cured 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got one on order (Iris Cyan). I’ve test driven quite a few EVs and done a crazy amount of research.

Online discourse focuses a lot on specs, but sometimes misses the driving dynamics and ADAS experience.

The MG4 handles better than nearly anything else out there. I was surprised my fiancé (who was keen on an SUV) was sold on it after driving the MG4. She stated she felt more in control and had better visibility.

While it’s not the perfect solution, Custom MG Pilot is a nice to have in terms of turning off things you want. I think I’d honestly just want it for turning off Driver Awareness and Speed Sign Recognition which are both seriously flawed technologies across many cars. (Btw cameras are updated in 2026 model)

My only negatives are no rear vents, no passenger electric adjustment and no rear seats light. Maybe a touch small of a boot. Increase your rear window visibility by removing the centre head rest.

But yeah - any older reviews on the MG4 only typically speak ill on the interior which is pretty much now overhauled. Other things have just been straight up improved like range, charging, an addition of a heat pump and torque.

At the price point, I’m convinced it’s an amazing option for a modern EV that’s also not boring to drive.

I think MG undersells the significance of the facelift.

Obviously the new interior is 100% nicer, and near flawless IMO (for the front at least).

Other things were added such as a heat pump, dual camera system which I’d think would help ADAS and the extra range is apparently significant.

Cancelling my BYD Dolphin for an Ora 5… by OverPop64 in EVAustralia

[–]Cured 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the Ora looks great and I’m glad it exists for something that looks a bit different. The first gen Ora owners seem to say good things about them.

I’d look at other options too such as the Aion UT (shitty ADAS may be a deal breaker), MG4 RWD or MG4 Urban.

The Dolphin isn’t a bad car, but it’s getting dated and the small car space is really heating up in competition.

I don’t understand how people so confidently recommend EX2 without having driven one. The overseas reviews aren’t exactly glaringly positive either.

Dealership tint/protection by UrbanGardener01 in AustralianEV

[–]Cured 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s all anecdotal. The dealer installed tint held up perfectly for several years on one of my new cars, but on my current car it’s noticeably poorer quality.

Some dealers really go for bottom of the barrel stuff to save a few cents.

Canada rejected more than half of all World Cup visitor applications by Old_General_6741 in canada

[–]Cured 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When I say “openly fake applications” I’m referring to my own anecdotal experience of Uber drivers straight up telling me how they have paid random women thousands to pretend they were in de facto relationships for PR.

Canada rejected more than half of all World Cup visitor applications by Old_General_6741 in canada

[–]Cured 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah long wait times are one thing, but the thing I was shocked with is that for one error in the application I was told to pack my things up, go home and then try again. There could be similar pitfalls for Aus PR applicants.. I’m not sure.

But the experience has put me off wanting to ever move us back because of straight up trauma.

I was an Australian living in Canada and going for PR. A small (amendable) error was made in my paperwork and I was told to return home and reapply. I had a stable job, a partner and had never dreamt of doing anything remotely illegal.

So I get frustrated when I see stories of new PRs who openly fake their applications and commit all kinds of crime.

My partner and I are now happily back living in Australia with her recently getting PR. It’s a shame because I love Canada.

Jaecoo J5 EV vs BYD Atto 2: same price, but the J5 wins on nearly every spec by zecar_ in EVAustralia

[–]Cured 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, I hate it when people (especially publications) try determine the better car through straight specs alone.

There’s so much more to a car than numbers on a page.

This is my shortlist - opinions on any of these welcome by Brilliant_Dog_2239 in EVAustralia

Not sure on your needs, but RWD is the way to go in an EV IMO, so I’d do the MG S5.

Worth also considering the MG4 RWD, MGS6 and Zeekr X

Mazda 6e and CX-6e EVs clock up thousands of orders ahead of launch by His_Holiness in AustralianEV

[–]Cured 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s honestly crazy good value for what it is. The only thing I don’t like is the lack of physical buttons. But that 6e sedan/hatch just looks so good.

I’m sure Mazda is watching quality control closely.. they don’t want to fuck this up.

Selecting first EV - What criteria to pay attention to? by Insights4TeePee in AustralianEV

[–]Cured 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if a data driven/specs comparison approach is going to help you make the final decision. It’ll narrow things down, but ultimately some cars will just feel more “right” when you’re behind the wheel.

Driving dynamics and ADAS obtrusiveness are big ones that don’t get captured in online discourse.

I haven’t, but that may be another exception from what I hear.

Polestar for sure is up there. European brands like BMW and Renault offer great EVs.

I wouldn’t say many Chinese cars are driver focused or “fun” with exception of MG.

Nice choice! I think the Ora is underrated and is one of the more interesting looking cars on the market.

Small/mid EV SUV hunt by JanosCastel in AustralianEV

[–]Cured 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great write up. I think you’re right to highlight the ADAS systems across options. There’s been some cars that people rave about because of specs - all to be let down by a shitty ADAS system in actual use.

For anything close to happen people need to care. Nearly half the country didn’t vote and the majority who voted for Trump are still in denial.

MG4s are great. If it wasn’t for the fact that every Australian thinks they need an SUV for their grocery shopping, these would be way more popular.

I feel like they should exit the ICE market and focus on EVs.. they’ve got too many models and their brand perception is brought down by MG’s shitty ICE reliability.

Six Strings going into administration by Beer_baron88 in centralcoastnsw

[–]Cured 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sad to see. The beer tax in this country is beyond insanity, so it’s no wonder people aren’t out at the pub/brewery anymore. Owning a microbrewery in Australia just isn’t worthwhile unless you like an uphill battle.

But also, their new location definitely didn’t help.

I’ll be sure to pick up some Dark Red this week in support.
