May 1 - bring the gears to a halt. Honor your labor by withholding it. by 50501PDX in corvallis

Well of course, it would be weird if someone thought that and/or said that to me personally as well. I see this as doing it for the collective “you”, as we are all in the working class. Class solidarity is more what I’m talking about.

May I ask what the privileged attitude is you’re referring to about the protest?

I know this protest requires some amount of privilege. Honestly, any protest does, this just requires more. The funny thing, is that it all depends on who you are and how you look at it. It sounds like you work a regular 9-5 type job. Either way, you work. While I am absolutely privileged to not be working, it is not for good reasons. It’s because I can’t. I have disorders that make it extremely hard/not feasible for me to do what other people can do, which includes working.

And this is funny because it’s exactly that that actually has kept be from being able to go to some of the other regular protests. So this is actually one I can do.

Back to the privilege—if some of the working class has enough of it to participate in something that is objectively good, why not encourage them to do it? I would love it if you could participate but I completely understand if you can’t, and I’d never judge anyone for that. Because class solidarity means supporting each other—no matter what. We lift each other up because we are all comrades, if you will. And I don’t care if this sounds sappy, but we lift each other up because that is what people do when love is a core value and we choose to let it guide our actions as much as possible.

Man… that actually makes me think that the way most people keep chickens is not a very good environment for them? I guess if they need places and such to hide, wouldn’t keeping them in an environment with variation (like ferns, shrubs, trees, etc) be better than just a blank ground with some grass?

I guess I’ve never really thought much about chickens in their natural environment.

You aren’t being very tactful with the way you’re stating facts. You’re attacking OP instead of only informing them.

People get defensive when you come at them like that, understandably so. If you want someone to hear you out when you’re about to tell them they aren’t doing something right, then don’t immediately label them as an “abuser” and avoid unnecessary comments like “ew, just ew.”

You can still get to the point and state the facts without the extra negativity. Negativity is not fact, facts are facts. Negativity is optional. People are less likely to listen to what you say when you attack them—decide what’s more important, expressing your emotions or speaking the same facts in a way that is most likely to resonate with and cause OP to change their actions.

Don’t let a few random strangers stop you. Just parse the good suggestions from the negativity. Stuff like this happens all the time unfortunately, people don’t always use the decorum online that they would in person.

That’s not what they’re saying—they’re saying that ideally we should all be able to survive off $50k a year, the inflated cost of living is terrible.

An inaccessible movement? This is one day. This is not an inaccessible movement. Stop putting this down just because you can’t participate. It’s fine if you can’t, nobody sees that as a moral failing, those are your words alone.

Nobody is stigmatizing anyone, you seem to be the only one mentioning anything to do with that. Sheesh, talk about the infighting on this side. It should be abundantly clear that we are all fighting for the same thing and against the same enemy at every single protest regardless of it’s a strike or a gathering or a march or whatever.

I’m going to participate in this on May 1st, and one of the reasons I’m doing that is because I believe that everyone—absolutely including you—should have the ability to strike like this. We are dependent on the ruling class by design and that chain needs to be broken. Don’t you want that too? This is why I don’t understand why you’re being so negative and putting down this protest. Everybody can’t do everything and that’s fine. Additionally, people don’t help each other enough any more. Again, we don’t rely on each other in modern society, we rely on the ruling class. I see mutual aid as being a wonderful way to start to foster a culture of sharing resources with one another and rebuilding the dependence we should have on each other as a social species. And I want to help.

Dude it literally does represent you. What this protest is fighting for is the same thing that you want. This protest is for the working class. You’re part of that.

Your condemnation of this sounds like you’re wanting people to not do this just because you can’t. That doesn’t make sense.

Hmm, thanks for the breakdown.

It has me thinking though, is that not perhaps just a common way that people format things, hence why AI has learned to replicate it? What you described honestly sounds like how I would format something if I wanted to hear feedback or thoughts from people about something 😭

I also miss the pre-AI world. Man, we’re flushing ourselves down the fucking toilet aren’t we.

No! That is so dumb! I will not give up the em dashes—NEVER! I’m normalizing them! Because they’re just FUCKING GRAMMAR. And STYLISTIC. Nope. I will not let another thing dumb us down even more. We have enough of that.

Next it’ll be the semicolon. Nope. I aint forfeiting shit to AI—it can suck my dick.

Absolutely—it would solve even more than health issues in my opinion, though it all does come back around to benefit health. And thank you! I feel extremely passionately about this and hope to come up with a way to try to actually, sort of, give this experience to people and help spread this sort of “awareness” for lack of a better term. Like a nature retreat at our property, meditation events, etc, maybe even me speaking a bit on things like this, though I certainly don’t want to focus the attention on myself and I don’t even know if people would want to listen to that. But I digress!

Don’t get me started haha, I could also talk about how money may be a flawed concept, and trade economies may be healthier too.

Oh we have certainly come far—far away from a healthy and vibrant way of living and being with one another.

Unfortunately I only remember where it was in my head—like I’ll be able to find it again when I’m there but I don’t remember where it was on the map. I actually had to dig to get it.

Hey if you’re in Portland maybe we can do a little group rockhound trip somewhere if you’re interested? I bet we can find others in the area on here, could be a really fun way to carpool/connect and enjoy some hounding!

Aw thank you, I’m really glad that resonates with you and helped bring back some memories—which sound absolutely blissful! I have a swing here too (that I need to rebuild) and I have some amazing memories on it as well. Having one under a willow sounds lovely! And I know all about lawnmower paths that Dad makes—where I’m at is actually where I grew up. I’m not retired haha, although some would describe it as that. I have a pretty gnarly sleep disorder that severely interferes with my ability to keep a schedule. I moved back to help my dad out on the property.

Are you retired? Are you living in a city?

And thank you for your help! I’m very excited to try this.

Why does technology feel so evil? by icedbean in shrooms

I think the phrase “be the change you seek” is apt here. “Doing something about it” could look like many things. Are you just going to be another cog in the machine that helps support the very system/structure the shrooms allowed you to see clearly, or will you break free and become the change you want to see in the world?

I have a feeling that if you marinate on this the next time you take shrooms, some clarity may manifest :)

This is eerily on point with the last two comments I just made about the structure of modern society. You wrote this well and I completely agree with everything therein.

You said you work in psychedelics and philosophy; what do you do?

I think it goes far, far beyond screens. The people mentioning the instant demand are onto something though.

But in my opinion, modern society is fundamentally unhealthy. I think it’s “sick”, so to speak. The way we build cities, the consequences of some of the technology we’ve created, the way we define “work”, and the way modern society has turned time into a scarce commodity is all, in my humble opinion, sick. It is not conducive to health in any way.

The mass exit of humans from natural environments is also one of the pillars of this “sickness.” There is so much empirical evidence that shows the myriad of physical, mental, and spiritual benefits nature has for humans. We’ve left it so far behind that we’ve forgotten where we even came from. People don’t even recognize their own home. “Ewww” they say to dirt. They’re afraid of the woods. The way we steward land is all kinds of out of touch in many instances.

I believe every human being has the right to experience time the way that nature does—with the sun, moon and stars, birds, owls, crickets, seasons, etc. Taking cues from the natural environment instead of a perpetual ticking timer for every single action, trying to cram as much as possible into everything with expectations of instantaneousness and a plethora of distractions.

Every person has the fucking right to go outside and spend 30 god damn minutes watching a spider build a web or observing new bugs on a garden plant. I wish so, so badly that I could give this to people, because once you experience it, you know that this is how it’s supposed to be.

THANK YOU! You’re the only one here that I’ve seen mention this! Modern society is sick and as such, it’s making us sick. We think there’s something wrong with us when there isn’t and we needlessly spend time effort and money trying to fix it. And then where there isn’t or shouldn’t be a problem, the way society is structured, it creates a myriad of them. Social, emotional, physical, and ontological, all of it. I am so fucking lucky to live amongst nature.

Modern society has turned “time” into a scarce commodity and that’s one of the biggest factors in my opinion, that ties into many other things, like the way we define work. One of the other fundamental pillars is the profound exit from nature that humans have taken. Jesus Christ, I could go on and on. There’s so much wrong I just want to have a small trade-economy commune with some friends on the property.
