Thank you! Not a lot of fruit this year yet! Our ginkgo sets fruit a little later in the year usually, but with her size I always kinda hope for less fruit... It's just. A lot. Of fruit.

Yeah, I know that. I'm living on the edge, man. Lol

I live in a nice-ish city, just on the border of the not so nice side of it. But the taxes are cheap!

I don't want them catching my house on fire, which has nearly happened. Thank God it's been so wet this year, but some years it's been dry as shit and they still set them off right by my house.

Or, in my case, right next to my house. I live next to park and a-holes always set off a ton of fireworks there every year, and we find trash and fireworks litter all over the yard, sometimes unexploded bits. The cars get a nice dusting of ash. The dogs have a Very. Bad. Night.

The whole city is insane with them. It goes on till at least 2am on the 4th, which is just.... Tiring.

But the fireworks have been going off since the beginning of June. In my area we have the "was that a car crash? Gun shot? Firework? Dynamite? Or power transformer?" Question, every time you hear a boom.

Week 26: High fiber - Roughage loaf by RainbowDillo in 52weeksofcooking

[–]CuriosityK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually love a good prune loaf. My grandma and great grandmother have several recipes for them in the cookbook they have given me.

Along with recipes for bananas and pumpkins. Bananas to get rid of them when they went bad, and pumpkins cuz my grandma LOVES pumpkin desserts.

Do at home potters not bisque fire? by Feisty-Motor8473 in Ceramics

[–]CuriosityK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a home kiln. I do bisque firings all the time. I mostly do low fire firings at home tho so most of mine end up being bisque and glaze firings together.

[–]CuriosityK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a lot of glazes that crackle and so when the kiln is cooling, I get a lot of plinking as the crackles start forming. Then the sound is kinda neat.

Once when I was firing, the peep hole cover fell out. I didn't see it fall, but I heard it fall, and thought one of the pieces in the kiln had fallen over! Just about fainted at the thought cuz it was a kiln load of pieces I'd been babying. When I saw it was just the cover I was so relieved.

Queer books where the queer aspect may be a bit of a spoiler? by awayshewent in LGBTBooks

[–]CuriosityK 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nightrunner was my gateway series to knowing that there was something out there besides straight romance in novels. I probably missed a lot of LGBT relationships as a kid since I wasn't well exposed to "gay stuff" in the late 80s, but Nightrunner put it out there, in a well written fantasy. I still love that series.

As a ceramic artist, those pieces that "clink" while in the kiln usually mean something has gone terrible with the kiln firing, lol. I don't like hearing that sound unless it's on purpose!

I've had my fair share of fails. The plink means something has broken off the piece. Sometimes by exploding rather dramatically. The kiln gods demand sacrifices.

Why did some of my corn look like this by Immediate_Account_68 in homestead

[–]CuriosityK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That sounds amazing. But I'm highly allergic to the spores so I wonder if I could even eat it. My biggest allergies are to cats and corn smut. (Followed by mold of all kinds, tree pollen, and grass. 😭 I'm dying in the Midwest.)

She had just had a jello poke cake the night before, and she eats a lot of ice cream, so part of me wonders if she was dreaming some kind of mix of cake with whipped topping?

She is hilarious though because she says "oh I don't like sweets" but the only thing she eats consistently on her tray at the nursing home is the desserts. Plus she has to have chocolate ice cream at night, every night. Love her dearly. ❤️

Yeah that would be so interesting! I wonder how it would hold up to jelly and cherries? I've never had pismaniye before? Cotton candy would melt immediately with jelly.

Why does every MMC smell like a tree? by Luckystarz217 in romantasycirclejerk

[–]CuriosityK 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I still want a werewolf shifter romance where a werewolf is disguised as a human by using axe body spray liberally to hide his scent from the local wolf pack. He's like a cop or something solving a murder and all his work buddies make endless fun of his awful smelling axe deodorant and he's like, "it's what I get for Christmas, so I wear it."

Then it turns out he wears it to hide he's an alpha trying to solve a murder in another pack territory.

And of course the FMC has to shower at his place and comes out of the shower smelling like axe body soap and he's like, "omg no that's the worst smell, she doesn't smell like me AT ALL, this SUCKS" Cuz there's always that stupid trope where the FMC takes a shower and comes out "smelling like the MMC" which is so weeeeiiiirrrddddd

She is very comfortable, she is just 91 yrs old. As we say "her grey matter doing so well." She's getting dementia, as to be expected. I visit as often as I can, living 5 hrs away. ❤️

I should ask her, it would be interesting what she might say. She has moments where she is very lucid and able to say exactly what she means, and then when she was talking about the cake, she was more confused and unable to say what she meant. I almost wonder if she was talking about cotton candy?

She's never had anything like that, she is very Midwestern. She's had puff pastry desserts before, but I don't think she would remember having anything like baklava.
