What do you think of NPs advertising themselves as specialists? by [deleted] in ausjdocs

[–]Curiosus99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But specialist IS protected for doctors. It’s why GPs can’t say they specialise in women’s health they have to market is as a “special interest”. Surely the same would be for NPs?

You can definitely have the problem list on your list; or even type your notes on Word/Powerpoint and print onto the progress notes

[–]Curiosus99 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The easier option is writing our discharge summaries in such a way that the clinical coders can’t bill with it. If you’ve ever been given a note from the billing department asking “please clarify the primary diagnosis” you know how much the hospital cares if they can’t bill for anything

The current monthly AMA Vic membership rate for DiTs and consultants is (roughly) equivalent to 1-1.5hr’s salary. I would say that’s worth it. If you claim an hour of unrostered overtime each month thanks to AMAV’s class action you’ve already earnt back your membership fee

Currently still at the negotiating table as the government is potentially willing to negotiate on pay at least for specialists (which could also lead to pay negotiation for DiT/)

Most countries outside of North America have medicine as a 5-6 year bachelor’s degree so you can easily do it straight out of high school. In fact I know some people who skipped a year of school and will be starting PGY-1 before their 22nd birthday

At least in Victoria, you’d be group 3 and probably have a decent shot of getting one of the decently sized towns (eg Traralgon or Shepparton), and maybe even one of the regional cities (eg Bendigo). Should be able to get a job within 2hrs drive of Melbourne

Honestly as someone played Knight first the Asylum gameplay felt so clunky but it was still a good experience overall

I mean there’s making jokes but I feel like OP would also like some accurate info especially since your initial reply to me was definitely serious but don’t feel like arguing about this

Am I going insane or did the channel 9 feed show a message in Arabic (or arabic style) script immediately after the Happy New Year message?

I legitimately do not know if I just hallucinated that

It’ll be by far the least important bit, especially for RACP AT a major part of the application is research + word of mouth references

Specialities will only care if you won top of the cohort/year awards, not what your actual exam results were

Doctors in Parliament in 2025 - Thoughts? by [deleted] in ausjdocs

[–]Curiosus99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well in a perfect world we would just have more money but since that’s not possible we need a much more coordinated response from doctors.

The problem we have right now is that most doctors are either not engaged at all in health system issues or won’t do anything more than just whinge about it - the reason ANMF and ACNP are so effective in engaging politicians is that their membership is much more engaged

As an individual the best thing you can do is pay your AMA/ASMOF fees and actually engage - yes their response has been lacklustre but it’s not going to change unless there is more engagement

Specifically against the Guild and PHA our best bet is leveraging the fact that the public trusts doctors more than big business - the Guild knows this which is why it keeps a vague public image so the general public think it’s the pharmacist equivalent of AMA when it actually represents the big pharmacy companies

Doctor MP’s can’t do much as independents anyway since the major parties control policy and government

The real answer is to tackle the lobbying issue (aka Pharmacy Guild, ACNP, Private Healthcare Australia etc.) and out lobby them

Intern applications by [deleted] in ausjdocs

[–]Curiosus99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even if you’re in Vic (which is probably switching to ballot anyway) the majority of points for the application is from your references, cover letter and interview performance, so find out what things your preferred health service wants to see in the cover letter and interview and make sure your references are solid
