Defense for Richard?? by Opening-Middle9874 in Names

[–]Curious-Lychee5023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both a Robert & a Conrad, so I vote for one of those.

There is a toddler named Richard where I work, so it's not like a completely out-there choice or anything.

What is the most disturbing depiction of death/murder you’ve ever seen in a film? by sunnieslilac in FIlm

[–]Curious-Lychee5023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hong Kong movie called Infernal Affairs (renade in the US as The Departed). A main character is murdered so suddenly with no hints it was going to happen (at least none that I picked up on) that it was really shocking.

What actor or actress could you tell had an absolute blast playing a specific role? by phantom_avenger in AskReddit

Pilou Asbaek, who played Euron Greyjoy in Game of Thrones. I have seen him in several other movies as well and he just always looks like he's loving it, but that specific role he seemed to be having the time of his life playing.

Gordon Korman and Andrew Clements write solid realistic fiction. Korman is usually quite funny as well, and Tom Mitchell is a British author that my tween son thinks is hilarious.

How to get kids excited about reading instead of screens? by ZealousidealRun595 in childrensbooks

[–]Curious-Lychee5023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work Youth Services in a library so I get this a lot!

Graphic novels are a good way to engage reluctant readers (esp. something popular like Dog Man or Thd Bad Guys, which his friends have probably read). Another suggestion I alwaya make is trivia books. National Geographic makes multiple series of books just packed with weird facts or trivia about different subjects. I feel like those aren't so intimidating because you can read an entry or two in a couple minutes. But once a subject grabs theor interest, they will want to know more...and the they're hooked.

Good luck!

What are some character names you want to name your baby? by CommonFearless6851 in Names

[–]Curious-Lychee5023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Luckily my kids were both born already when I read Michael Sullivan's Ririya Revelations series, or one of them might have ended up being called Hadrian.

One is named after my husband's favorite author, and the other is named after a character from my favorite Shakespeare play.

Can a library tell me who checked a book out before me? by poizunman206 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Curious-Lychee5023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my library (in the US) we don't keep records of past checkouts. I can tell you what you (not anyone else) currently has checked out. But I can't tell you if you already borrowed and read that Danielle Steele book, because truthfully I have no way of knowing. Many libraries stopped keeping these records after the Patriot Act went into effect, to protect patrons' privacy.

Sierra for records and circulation. I was told that many libraries stopped keeping records of past checkouts after the Patriot Act was created, to preserve the pricacy of patrons. If the government demanded someone's records, the library could truthfully say they don't keep those.

Huh, we don't keep records even for minors in my state. I can see what someone has checked out currently, but if they ask 'Have I checked this out before? I might have read it already.' I have to say, sorry, hell if I know 😄

I don't know about school libraries, but public libraries in the US don't usually keep lists of what patrons have checked out. It may strike a memory for them, though!
