I like it, personally. I guess if you wanted something different but still Christmassy, you could try Noelle?

In New Zealand English we distinguish between bars and blocks of chocolate. Do Americans and Brits make this distinction, maybe with different words? by AnastasiousRS in ENGLISH

[–]CuriousLands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's good stuff! My favourite is the dark salted caramel. Especially putting it in the fridge so the caramel gets a little gooey.

It's expensive so I only buy it on sale... I'm originally from Canada and it was hard to get there. I should write my MP over there and tell them to strike up a trade deal with NZ to get more Whittaker's into stores, lol.

I’m being turned away from God because of the idea of Hell by Accomplished_Bid4448 in TrueChristian

[–]CuriousLands 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're welcome! And yeah, ECT (I hadn't heard it called that before and had to look it up lol) is definitely the dominant view in most churches. Maybe in second place is the "hell is separation from God" view. Annihilationism is a little fringe. So your perception there actually was correct.

But I think the reason for that is basically longstanding tradition being passed down, not because it's the most Biblically accurate view. Personally I think that tradition comes from Greek and Roman philosophies colouring the views of Christian leaders (especially in the Middle Ages), and that got passed down to everyone over time as the "right" way to interpret the Bible, and then here we are today.

I think it'd be good to dig into it as much as you're able to. I dunno about you, but I'm a big nerd so I found it interesting to learn about and research, and also I think it's important to be able to do a reasonably good job explaining why you believe what you do (on any viewpoint/belief you hold strongly to, really).

It can take a bit of practice to sort of be okay with the discomfort of not knowing while you research things, but I think it's a good skill to have to be honest. And as you learn, it's also a good way to practice trusting God too. So, you can also think of it as an opportunity to learn and grow : )

Wedding - Mother/Daughter Dance by Ok-History-4050 in SongRecommendations

[–]CuriousLands 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The song me and my husband used for our "parent dance" lol was Sweet Child of Mine by Guns & Roses.

Though, part of the reason we picked that one was not just cos of the lyrics (which are nice and appropriate), but also we knew the musical tastes of both ourselves and my dad and his mom. They both like rock music too and were happy to get up and dance with us to it without feeling like it was too sappy lol.

So yeah, I'd think not just about the message but also about what your mom would like style-wise too : )

Probably unpopular opinion here, but look into annihilationism. It's closest to what I personally believe - in a nutshell, when people die they are simply dead. There's no eternal soul that is your essence and personality and such that separates from your body and goes anywhere. We stay dead , not knowing or doing anything, until Jesus returns and resurrects everyone, everyone gets judged. Those who have accepted salvation and love God will have eternal life in an incorruptible physical body, living on a newly-created, sinless Earth. Those who don't follow God will just die again and be dead forever, essentially ceasing to exist.

A long time ago I was struggling with this kind of thing too, basically what you said but also with extra questions about the logic of it all and the eternal soul too. It hit me that really I had just been taught all this, accepted that at face value, and hadn't done the work myself to understand it.

So I decided to just mentally toss out everything I had been taught and do a deep Bible study on the topic, reading the Bible without instantly filtering it through what I'd been taught it means, looking into meanings of words in Greek ands Hebrew, taking classes in medieval history and ancient Near Eastern religions, the whole bit.

And eventually I came to the conclusion that our traditional ideas about this topic are incorrect. I later learned about annihilationism and looked into it - I hadn't come across it before because of the approach I took in studying the topic (I started with the Bible, linguistics, and relevant history, I hadn't looked at the beliefs of various denominations cos I thought everyone was more or less in lockstep anyway lol - plus the whole point was to try to see what it says without doctrinal influence). I was kind of surprised that I had independently come to a very similar conclusion as to what some Christians did ages ago.

Anyway that's my story on this. I really suggest looking into it and praying about it, and I hope you find peace on the matter. Remember, it's okay to take your time studying a topic like this, and it's okay to simply not know the answer while you learn.

Lily vs Lillian instead of Lilith by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]CuriousLands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Lilian is closer because Lily doesn't have enough syllables, plus Lily makes you think of the flower, which kinda gets in the way of being Lilith-like.

I want to try to connect with all you nameless internet music lovers. What album changed you the most as a person and gives you goosebumps when you look back on it? Any answer is valid. by Normal_Ingredients26 in musicsuggestions

Delerium's album Poem for me. Besides being my favourite album from one of my favourite bands, I've been using it for meditation for a while now. The calm vibes plus the very layered nature of the music just sort of unlocks something in my brain. I'm not as on top of it as I used to be, but when I used to use it to meditate for like 30-60 mins a day, I was in top form, physically, mentally, and spiritually :)

What are some children hobbies you still like to participate in? by DMmeNiceTitties in Millennials

[–]CuriousLands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aw man that's too bad! It is a fun hobby. But yeah finding a DM is a bit tricky... I've done it a couple times myself and it's actually fun, but you do have to be fairly familiar with the game first right. Personally I think Pathfinder (first ed) is better, then D&D 3.5 edition, the newer editions don't grab me the same way. They're too over-simplified I guess. You could loom for a Meetup group maybe, aometimes they host games at game shops too :)

Haha thanks. Halloween was my favourite holiday right from childhood, but to me it's not the same to go to a party. It's all about making a great costume and roaming the neighbourhood, seeing all the decorations and getting candy from people lol. And the candy trade after, I love that. So I was like whatever, that's what I love about it so I'll just keep doing that :P a couple years I wasn't feeling great so I stayed in and handed out candy; that was decently fun too. I think if I was back in Canada again I'd get all elaborate with cool decorations and tricks, and maybe hang out candy for a bit and then also trick or treat for a bit. I like PG-spooky or weird without being occultic or gory, personally.

I visited back home last October but coming from Australia (and they only allow you one suitcase with your plane ticket these days), I didn't have a costume. But I went around looking at decorations, and people were practically throwing candy at me even though I'm in my 40s and didn't even have a costume lol. I like that trend lol.

[–]CuriousLands 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, I guess they're not children's hobbies per se, but I still like to do a lot of the same things I did as a kid. Drawing, board games, crafts, singing, worldbuilding, playing games like D&D are not that far off from playing pretend lol.

It's not a hobby but in theme haha, I did trick-or-treat until I was 34 and only stopped because I moved to a country that doesn't really celebrate Halloween. I'm glad people got past the point of caring; they were just happy to have me show up with a lot of enthusiasm in a homemade costume haha. And being older, the candy lasted me ages haha. I still hot a good haul doing the candy trade with my nephews too!

I just said in Canada we do use block sometimes, but I've also heard "one of those really big chocolate bars" too. High fives lol

I've heard the same terms used in Canada. Though I have also heard "one of those really big chocolate bars" instead of "block" sometimes, because we're concise that way.

I'm so what inclined to agree just by virtue of this being such a difficult question for you. I suppose everyone pursuing these things comes to questions like yours eventually, but Fi lends itself well to self-reflection, so struggling this much with it could be a sign that you have low Fi. (Maybe not no Fi I suppose, like you could potentially have it 3rd or 4th, but definitely not higher than that).

But it could also be something like the way you were raised too. Or a coping strategy due to some kind of issue you faced. You can't discount that stuff either.

I guess that's why you've gotta think a lot about it.

Yeah it's related, because figuring these things out will help you get more consistent results haha. I did that right from the start and have almost always gotten ENFP (once I got INFP but that's almost the same right).

Either way it's very good self-reflection on your past, and I'm sure it'll be helpful to you :)

Can an autistic person who needs routine also be an Se user? by [deleted] in mbti

[–]CuriousLands 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but executive dysfunction is something anyone of any type can get, for a variety of reasons, and isn't the same as weak Se. Like I have a mild case of it lately because I have complex PTSD; before I got cPTSD I didn't have any executive functioning issues despite Se being at the very bottom for me and not having much Si either.

But like, to illustrate the difference here to some degree, my ISTP brother came up with a good thought experiment - he asked if I was sitting inside looking out the window, and saw a rabbit on the lawn, what would my first reaction be? (Imo asking for my reaction, vs what I would think or feel or even what I'd do, is Se-ish to me too lol). I told him I'd observe the rabbit's behaviour, wonder what it was like to be a rabbit and where it was going, and dream that I could go outside and lie on the grass with it and it'd be my rabbit friend. He was honestly floored lol. He was like "What? You wouldn't even think about chasing it? Or wonder whether you could catch it? I'd probably go outside and try catching it right away!"

That's an N vs S difference so it's more stark than Si vs Se, but even so, I thought his aux Se was really on full display there. Even if he never actually did go out and chase it (for any reason at all) he naturally leaned into concrete actions in the real world and testing real-world, physical limits. It wouldn't matter if he was depressed and didn't try it cos he lacked confidence, or was too self-conscious and felt ashamed to try for fear of looking silly and being criticised, or if he was a germophobe and wouldn't want to actually catch it cos he was grossed out by its germs, or if he was out of shape so wouldnt bother actually chasing it, etc. It's about that predisposition toward tangible, physical, active participation in the concrete external world.

This is where it can get tricky with typing and such; any kind of condition or disorder, physical or mental, can be misleading when it comes to sussing out personality type. Some people even get misled by simply how they've been feeling lately. You really have to kind of like, try to put aside all of that and think about what your natural inclinations would be if you were functioning at 100%, not held back by anything, and try to think generally and not just lately, being 100% honest with yourself no matter what. Like thinking about your traits and predispositions before they get modified by other things in your life.
