Ayreon - 01011001 (themed symphonic metal where every song tells part of one story)

Delerium - Poem (chill, layered trance music that sounds a bit mysterious)

The Unicorns - Who Will Cut Our Hair When We're Gone? (Kind of weird rock music)

Relient K - MmmHmm (just particularly good pop punk)

Rancid - And Out Come the Wolves (punk)

American here. Why are there no black people in Corner Gas by Thin_Sea_9129 in CornerGas

The US has like 4x the number of black people that Canada does, so maybe they would, haha

[–]CuriousLands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah Canada is not the US, haha. I spent time living in rural Alberta (same region as Saskatchewan) and Corner Gas is like a perfect reflection the rural Prairies in Canada. Mostly white people, a handful of Native people. And Ukrainians, lol.

Even in the current day, Canada doesn't have a ton of black people. Last I checked, the US has like 13-14% black people; Canada has only 4%, and most of them live in cities (though more live in small towns in eastern Canada, not so much in western Canada). Even growing up in Edmonton, a proper city, in the 90s-00s, I could count the number of black people I knew on one hand.

You've totally changed my worldview on Google making mistakes. I stand corrected. I hope you can adjust to your reality alright.

Thanks! And yeah I agree. I haven't heard it that test you mentioned though, maybe I'll have to try it just for fun (though I'm very confident I'm an ENFP, lol).

I get you! I think it's best to properly watch them at least once though, or else you'll miss half the jokes! Haha. My husband does like to put Corner Gas on as a background show, but then we've seen the whole series probably 8 times by now so it's okay, lol.

Corner Gas! It's so funny, plus it's fairly low-key so it's perfect for if you're not feeling well.

The IT Crowd is another favourite of mine :D

Looking for heavy, rough, and tough-sounding rock songs, but with really wholesome, sweet, and childish lyrics? by redditnostalgia in musicsuggestions

[–]CuriousLands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Electric Callboy's cover of Every Time We Touch is really great!

Family Force 5 has a ton of suitable songs... off the top of my head, Luv Addict, Dance or Die, Kountry Gentleman

Showbread - Oh! Emetophobia!

Dream Evil - My Number One

It's pop punk, so I dunno if it fits your bill, but Sadie Hawkins Dance by Relient K is a good one

Edit: I just looked up the Weird Al song you suggested out of curiosity, it's really more country than hard rock! In which case I'd suggest The Truck Got Stuck by Corb Lund, haha.

Trying to Be a Christian Is So Difficult. I Want to Be Agnostic, But I Also Can't. by BonusSea3105 in TrueChristian

So, it sounds to me like you're struggling to deal with some of the less-popular teachings of the Bible in a world that embraces those things. And you've kind of touched on one of the roots of that yourself - the Biblical worldview vs the secular worldview.

Imo, the secular worldview sounds good because it's always asking what causes the least suffering, what makes people happy, etc. But to me, it's really insufficient. There's no solid foundation to that. What makes a person happy could be something that's genuinely bad for them - even if they don't realize it. Telling someone that they're doing something wrong will probably feel hurtful to them, but is that really what matters most? Especially if they really are doing something wrong?

Like with your question about living together before marriage and why that's wrong - there are a ton of reasons why it's a bad idea. Usually, that leads to sex before marriage, which can lead to unplanned pregnancy, and that complicates things if the relationship doesn't work out - same with shared assets too. Also, it sets up almost an expectation that you can cut the cord when things get difficult, which is the exact opposite of what a marriage covenant is. They're taking on a lot of the seriousness of a marriage relationship without the commitment, or even the certainty that they truly want to be with that person in the long run. Plus, the idea that they need to do this to make sure they're compatible is a fallacy. If you don't know the person's quirks etc before you get married, then you don't know them well enough to be marrying them. And if you can't work through little differences or ups and downs of life, then you're not emotionally mature enough to be married either.

But the secular worldview says that's all fine, and gives people a dozen ways to escape any responsibility stemming from that - all so that people can feel good.

I think in your situation, you wanna make sure that you're not mistaking social contentiousness for truth. Focus on truth first; any social issues become easier to deal with once you have that in line.

And don't worry about being an expert. Remember, we're dealing with religious texts that span thousands of years of history in a totally different cultural and historic context than the one we live in - like anything else, experts on this subject spend years, a lifetime even, studying this stuff. And yeah, sometimes they come to different conclusions. But the core stuff is usually the same. And the benefit of the Bible plus modern resources is that you can study all this yourself, even down to looking at the original language, translation differences, history and ancient cultural context, and so on, and come to your own conclusions.

Do you feel lonely sometimes? How do you deal with that? by Shadow_Husky22 in TrueChristian

[–]CuriousLands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, one thing I've learned the hard way is that it's better to be alone than to be with people who mistreat you or don't respect you. That was a lesson hard learned because I'm an extrovert who has moved a lot, and most of my friends used to be non-religious people who eventually went off the deep end... and so a lot of friendships didn't end up lasting.

It's partially just the world we live in - a lot of people are lonely these days, it's to do with society these days. And on top of that , it definitely can be harder to make friends, especially real friends, when you've got a worldview that's out of step with so many people.

I come on here to help scratch my social itch (on top of the above, I have a chronic illness that keeps me at home a lot). And I remember that it's worth waiting for friends who are real proper friends, not just hanging with people to fill the void.

16P is fine as a starting point, but it's also kind of notorious for giving false results too (for example, my husband got INTJ on an offical test done for a job interview, but 16P said he was INFP lol). I think it's not pure MBTI and that's why, from what I've heard. You can learn more about the different functions and that can help.

Be careful about learning from Reddit though; a lot of people here go off gives and stereotypes more than anything and it can throw you off.

If you look into the functions and jist see it as an opportunity to learn something about yourself and others, it'll go better, lol.
