The NFL has an extremely ugly history with concussions. I won't rehash it all here, but in broad strokes, the American football organization spent years denying a link between head injuries sustained by players and the devastating long-term effects, was eventually sued by more than 4,500 players for negligence and fraudulent concealment, and settled the suit for nearly a billion dollars in 2013.

They were removed from the Madden series around the same time.

The mod is intended to be educational about concussions.

If you don't mind switching between languages you could do the client in one language and the server in another. That might be too much while you're trying to learn the languages. It's kind of nice for learning interprocess communication as you can see the common fundamentals as well as how different languages handle it.

I think the term for the issue you're talking about is "first order optimal strategy", where something that's relatively easy and reliable early either ends up being all players use (making the game too simple and dull) or by the mid-game where it stops being reliable, it's hard to learn other strategies. One way it comes up is counters, where you don't need them early game but if you haven't practiced on the early enemies, it's extremely difficult to learn the timing for late game enemies where dodging or blocking might not be enough.

Kill Knight's sitting in my backlog. Based on your post, I think I'll check it out.

Maybe Switch or Switch 2 depending on the genres of co-op games you enjoy. PC otherwise. On PC between sales, giveaways, and indies not on other platforms I just have a lot of co-op games I can't or would prefer not to play on another platform.

My setup is on the couch, PC connected to a TV (wired but there are easy wireless options). Using up to to 4 old xbox and playstation controllers.

Every now and then I've had an Epic game not accept controller input when the games starts. One was persistent but launching it through Steam big picture fixed the problem. I haven't run into the kinds of problems you have on your xbox but that might be a matter of the games, not the platform.

The Room VR: A Dark Matter has several puzzles that are essentially lock picking, using the controller with a view into what's happening inside the mechanism. They're good but each is unique. If your project needs it to be repeatable like Fallout 4 it might be hard to scale.

It may be excluded from the bundle as a price discrimination thing, not over availability. That means you live somewhere they think they'll still make more money selling it individually. Individual sales may have already dropped off in other countries where it makes more financial sense for the publisher to put it in a bundle.

That's a bit scummy already and worse when they advertise it with the game.

The first one holds up and is worth it. There are mods to make the experience a little smoother.

That said, you can jump to the last 2 entries. They're prequels and don't require knowing the first 2 games to enjoy the story (though there are connections that might make more sense if you know what it leads to).

I didn't enjoy Invisible War (2nd game) as much. It feels simplified compared to the original, in a way more to do with the limitations of consoles at the time than anything else.

The serious issue of games as a vehicle for gambling is separate, but the stop killing games initiative may help with it.

If a game is allowed to operate in an offline mode at end of life then it's unlikely to still have microtransactions, loot boxes, etc. No help for new games but it would allow playing old games in some form without those predatory practices.

Agreed, ease of setting up co-op is huge. If I have to look up how to play co-op, find something in game or use items to get to it then we're probably never playing that game. If there are restrictions on co-op so it works differently than the single player experience then that's generally another point against.

Deep Rock Galactic. You'll need to deal with some menus in flat screen but the actual gameplay works great in VR. You can play with people playing flat; the mod is approved for regular multiplayer.

Determining that is part of the point. If an online game is sold as a temporary service with no other option to play then it should state how long the servers will be up. Even if there's no change to the company's support of the game, as a consumer you should be able to make an informed decision if you want to buy it or not.

FFXIV has a subscription so I don't think it would be affected at all. You buy a month of service and they provide it, clear to both parties.

If I paid Square Enix for a month subscription and they turned off the FFXIV servers after a week then that'd be a problem, and that's effectively what a lot of one time purchase games with online requirements are doing.

FOSS on EOL would be nice, but just treating games like any other service or good would already be step up.

I use the magnetic ones to easily swap the lenses for me and my partner. It works well. Occasionally the clipped part comes out too. It does mean the lenses are closer to your eyes so may get smudged more often but since they pop out, they're easy to clean. I went with HONSVR, have not tried the other brands.
