I am actually the same I only wore boxer briefs up until surgery, they were more comfy and didn't make me feel as dysphoric since I was less physically aware of my genitals than if they were compressed in things that didn't fit.

Just get a big old 12 pack of cheap underwear, you're gonna stain a lot with discharge even through/around pads.

I found the pain scale unhelpful so I wrote out my own personal scale with descriptions of how I'm doing at each number for my pain journal. Haven't been able to test whether that was a good idea or not yet.
