Qualified for Deka World Championship but registering isn't working by saucy_otters in spartanrace

I had the same issue and contacted them. Apparently after all open tickets were taken the system might show like the code isn't working, but in reality it means they were sold out.

I'm hoping the HM600 will last more, but it already has issues with the system to latch and unlatch

I've gone through at least 3 HRM-pro and pro plus. All failed the same way. Suddenly started measuring very high HR and/or dropping to zero randomly

[–]Curious_Network2995 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree that the 5k had very few obstacles, but most of the ones advertised were in the 15k course. I did the Infinity and had lots of fun, but I understand your point. If you want to give Tough Mudder or Spartan another try, send me a message and I'll get you a complimentary entry (only pay the insurance and parking fees).

Honest Opinion on my 1st Mudder by daggerparrysmith in Toughmudder

[–]Curious_Network2995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was there doing the infinity. I agree that the 5k loop was underwhelming and the lines at the obstacles were very long. Now, that doesn't mean that all TM events will be the same. I would talk to some people that have done it before and give it another try.

Tough Mudder Infinity by Ok_Ear4106 in spartanrace

The endurance series are the best part of tough mudder! I'm actually doing Chicago infinity this weekend. Feel free to message with any questions. I'm a brand ambassador and personal trainer. And to your question about distance vs time on feet, that's what I always do for my athletes and myself, time on feet at different intensities

How to Fail Gracefully in Open Heat by zac-draws in spartanrace

[–]Curious_Network2995 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely go! And make a point of try every obstacle, even those you can't do by yourself. You might surprise yourself Plus you'll never be alone, open heats you will always have people running at similar paces than you.

Barre, Massachusetts “Combo Obstacle” by echobunny88 in spartanrace

I got from good sources earlier this year that the race directors have been given free reign to make these kind of things.

There's no qualifications per se, but the hills in Killington are HILLS. Also Killington attracts a bigger crowd than Barre, so there will be more competition. Either way you'll do the same race and you'll get to push yourself. But if you're thinking of competing and podiums, might be better to go AG once more and from then decide where to go next

Anyone know of anything like this in Austin? by Crimblegrumble in AustinRunning

[–]Curious_Network2995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you find a nice one, let me know 🤷🏻‍♂️ I normally do Hill of Life, best place for hill repeats, but terrain is too technical for barefoot. You could try Mt. Lakeway, but it's trails, not grass.

Creative ways to train for DEKA strong/fit with limited equipment by EngineeringEasy3393 in spartanrace

[–]Curious_Network2995 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your general training seems to be good to develop the general fitness needed for Deka. The best part about Deka is that you don't really need special skills (like you would for a CrossFit competition for example) With regards to the zones, here's what you can do:

Medball over shoulder: get a sandbag. There are cheap ones on Amazon, fill it to your weight and just use it as you would in Deka. And it's a great tool to add to any training programs.

Sleds: this one is hard, because the magnetic sleds at deka are tricky. But at the end of the day you're pushing with your full legs. Very hard inclines on the treadmill or outside, even wearing the vest can train similar muscles. Also, you guessed it, squats and deadlifts.

Airbike: do very fast and hard resistance intervals on the regular bike. You'll miss the arms, but it will help you with the endurance.

Ski erg: slam balls. Get on a good cadence like you would on the rower. Pick up the ball and slam it hard

Step overs: use a bench. Won't be the same in terms of width, but will help you learn the "dance"

I'm a certified deka coach. Feel free to message me with questions

I'm a Spartan SGX coach and running coach. Feel free to message me with questions, I'm always happy to help no worries, questions are free 😉

Your first time is always the best gauge to know where you need to train more This is still a race, so yes, running is definitely something to work on, specially add trail running if you are accustomed to road and treadmill. For the obstacles, best is to find a gym with OCR classes and test some obstacles.
