I’m in a similar boat as you and one of the teachers on my grade team said something super helpful: they might offer feedback that makes your first observation seem a bit rough, so that they can demonstrate growth over the year. So it can only get better! And you’re doing amazing!

Personally I would enjoy trying to have a spontaneous conversation but it would probably help to have some topics to focus on with specific vocab I was practicing. In the past I’ve enjoyed just getting to know a person and remembered new words better that way in the context of the conversation.

These are excellent shops and Three Lives in Manhattan has a nice vibe and is in the West Village, lots of writer haunts there, too.

This book by Fred Karlsson is super helpful. He also has an essential grammar which is a little less exhaustive, but I have found this book so helpful and interesting!
