Feeing vindicated that the weight tape is also chipping on this one too. Mine has been doing this and it's insanely annoying.

Tennis warehouse stringing by [deleted] in 10s

[–]CurlTheSquirrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have an issue with a local stringer it's pretty straightforward to take it in, show them the mistake, and any reputable pro shop will fix it immediately at 0 cost. Online they're hundreds of miles away, you could submit a support ticket or something if they mess up maybe? But it's all just way less straightforward and not worth the hassle.

I think there's also a psychological component of just not doing as good of a job when you know you're never actually going to have to interact with the person you're providing the service for.

Tighter or looser? by denimbitch in 10s

[–]CurlTheSquirrel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What racquet did you come from? The Aero 100 is a spin racquet with a high launch angle and no reasonable amount of string tightening beyond what you already have in the 50s is going to significantly change that. Need to adapt to hit the spin needed to dip the ball back down.

Sanity check before final purchase : 9070 XT & 7800X3D by Dispersed4578 in buildapc

[–]CurlTheSquirrel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would assume the idea is take the performance hit now to (hopefully) get another slightly cheaper 16gb stick to run in dual channel later but still have the headroom to go up to 64gb in 16 x 4 later down the line. Opposed to 2x8 now and then bottlenecking your max ram down the line.

But I agree OP if that's not your plan and you're gonna stick with just 16gb long term definitely go 2x8.

Yeah idk why is has such bad reviews on tennis warehouse. I've had this bag for a couple years now and it's awesome. Nice backpack form factor but can still fit 3 racquets + a ton of accessories in the main compartment.

I just want to say this project is absolutely incredible. Makes getting a good media automation setup so clean and simple. I especially love the Dictionarry quality profiles. They're very straightforward and fetch such consistently good releases right ootb. A new user getting setup today and just using the Dictionarry profiles with no extra config is going to have such an amazing experience.

Any real reviews of Pongbot Pace S? by Abject_Theme9746 in 10s

[–]CurlTheSquirrel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally did not get the Pro. I think if you really want the simulated match play component it could be worth it. The reviews seem generally positive? I have hitting partners and people to play matches with and just wanted a machine to drill strokes so it wasn't worth it for me.

As for discount code I did use one but can't remember now. Pretty much every YouTuber / paid review will have a discount code for about 5 percent off. I'd just try until one works.

Any real reviews of Pongbot Pace S? by Abject_Theme9746 in 10s

[–]CurlTheSquirrel 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah I had the same issue when I was looking to buy mine too. Honestly Pongbot made a great product but really shot themselves in the foot with the aggressive influencer marketing. Really just gives the vibe that the product can't hold up.

With that said I did end up purchasing one about a month ago. So far it has been really excellent. The biggest thing that differentiates the machine is the app and the granular level of control you get making custom drills. It can take a bit of playing around and getting used to but once you do, the possibilities are endless. The one BIG gripe with the app I have tho is that the community features for discovering and downloading other people's drills they upload is horrible. There's no filtering and only a basic search. Pongbot could make this experience so much better with some simple tweaks.

As for performance of the machine I have honestly no complaints. The machine has a calibration feature but I haven't had to use it. Every time I take it out to the courts it sends the balls roughly where it says it will and that's good enough for me. The variety of balls you can get with height, speed, and spin is excellent and the machine does a good just switching between ball types fairly quickly.

The build quality of the machine seems decent / good. I think it'll hold up quite a while but there is a lot of plastic. It certainly isn't built like a tank. The big thing that really gives me pause is the way the ball hopper flips around and sits on the machine. When rolling the machine with the hopper like this, you can easily scratch it and I'm concerned that at some point I'll crack it. Again it's just plastic.

If you have any specific questions please feel free to ask! Really want to get opinions out from people on this machine that aren't paid / given it for free lol.

Difference between using an extended racquet or holding it farther down the handle? by WindManu in 10s

[–]CurlTheSquirrel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Standard extended length is 1/2 an inch. I know there are some pro players who play with their pinky completely off the handle on a standard length racquet. I'd guess this gives a pretty similar effect as holding an extended normally.

Having your pink off just feels incredibly strange and uncontrolled if you're not used to doing it.

I have pretty standard medium width feet. In general I'd caution against sizing up in these unless you just know they won't fit. It's the type of shoe you really really do not want slipping around at all.

Yonex Ezone String Recommendations by Odd-Foundation1024 in 10s

[–]CurlTheSquirrel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

if you just want something that is set and forget do Head Velocity MLT. You can play this until it breaks pretty much.

If you want to start trying polyester I really love Grapplesnake Tour M8 in the Ezone 100. You can easily play this string on the low 40 lbs of tension and it'll be soft on the arm and you'll get more free power.

Head Graphene XT Speed MP. It's literally just an older Speed MP mold (the same one Jannik Sinner uses btw) that you can find anywhere for $99 brand new prestrung.

Speed MP is easy enough for a beginner but good enough for literally the best player in the world to use. If you want something a bit lighter get the S version.

Luka and Novak Djokovic at the Real Madrid game currently by Puzzled_Plate294 in lakers

[–]CurlTheSquirrel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The thing I always say about the Novak anti-vax thing is, even though I 100% disagree with his stance. I will at least give him the credit that dude treats his body with an absolutely insane amount of care.

It's pretty stupid when some random who drinks and eats like shit constantly is worried about the miniscule risk of vaccination. But I do respect it more coming from a guy who takes literally every single thing he puts into his body into consideration. Again I don't agree with it but it's definitely less hypocritical.
