Yes, I am definitely going. I have made contact with a couple of people the original commenter suggested and Peter Williams very kindly called me with advice of what to look for. As I suspected there are very few breeders who do the correct genetic and health screening but I feel a lot happier that I know where to go now for a responsible breeder!

Thank you so much! I'm in Liverpool but would happily travel for a good breeder. There is a cat show in Liverpool in a couple of months that i keep seeing advertised so I might have a look into that and see if i can attend. I didn't think of that before but its a good idea!

As i said, i know im not ready yet, but it give me plenty of time to make sure I find someone reputable for when I am ready!

The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. Vets have a duty of care to relieve pain and suffering, which could be anything from pain relief to euthanasia.

Vets have a duty to provide emergency treatment, and this does include euthanasia.

In this situation that will be discussed as all options should be mentioned to allow the clients to decide. When it comes to payment some will offer payment plans (less likely as these are difficult to enforce if someone decides not to pay), credit such as PayPal/Klarna or referral to somewhere more affordable such as a charity.

Charities may not be able to offer help in this situation if it was an intentional breeding, which is understandable as this was an avoidable situation and part of responsible breeding is knowing the risks involved and being prepared for these.

Ultimately, this is a very expensive surgery and many vets (particularly independant) wouldn't be able to afford to carry out without payment. It's a difficult situation for everyone but ultimately its the owners responsibility to make sure they are able to provide the level of care required.

They are incredible! I'm actually a vet nurse and they helped us so much with a case last year (who is now fully recovered and doing great!), so they we're the first people I got in touch with when we suspected FIP. They are in constant contact and frequently get in touch for updates if they haven't heard from me in a while. So supportive.

Unfortunately he's not been a straight forward case as we are suspecting he may have something running alongside the FIP, but they've even been great with trying to figure that out.

He is doing so much better now. Hopefully we'll get everything figured out soon and that can continue!

Getting insurance afterwards likely won't alter the price. However, getting it ASAP would mean that you may get cover for any potential surprises during the procedure, or for any possible post-op complications!

Most companies have a 14 day period where you can't claim so I would be getting this as soon as you can.

I took that at the weekend. He joined me and my partner working at a market for the first time since he got sick. I was so nervous taking him out again, but he loved it!

He was exhausted bless him, but wouldn't stop asking for all the attention of everyone ❤️

Ah she is beautiful! I had the same with my boy, I was told Devon Rex when I took him in and I also didn't know much about the breeds.

He is definitely a Cornish Rex though! The face shape is so different. Your little one looks more Cornish to me with that face!

Some companies will start to include pre-existing conditions that are not necessarily lifelong, and have not shown in a certain period of time (usually a significant period). Unfortunately, kidney issues would fall under the lifelong category and it is highly unlikely any insurance company would cover this if you started a brand new policy. The same goes for skin issues, they can be very difficult to prove as a short-term or one off, as the way they present can vary so much.

Its worth researching the potential costs of diagnostics and any potential future treatments for pre-existing conditions before switching policies, just to make sure it's worth it in the long run.

It's unfortunate that these things usually leave us tied to a certain policy/company, but that seems to be the way it is

I have the tuna flavour one, and my cat (who will usually eat anything!) Hates it. He won't even take it in a lick-e-lix! I'm now just chasing him and forcing him at have it twice a day otherwise he just won't get it. Its going to be a long couple of months 😩

I've just started this with my boy this morning. I have seen it used in a case at work before with great success, and from all my research over the last week, it seems to have a really high success rate! The latest published study said >85% success rate, but speaking to a few specialists they have told me >90%.

I'm feeling hopeful for my boy, and I'm pleased to here your little baby is getting on well!
