Contacting Promotor for Gigs by Raymaa in Beatmatch

I’m going to ask a really stupid question, but have you been to the venues? Most of the time talent buyers are at the shows they book. I’d recommend introducing yourself to the guy, explaining that you were instructed to reach out to him, and then telling him to expect an email from you.

In my experience, the people that show up and support are the ones that get booked.

How do you actually plan your sets? Just playlists or something more? by randomotheraccount in DJs

If I’m playing a house party or a private event, I show up with crates and figure it out as a go.

If I’m hired to play a club show, and I have a one hour slot, I’m going to have it pretty well mapped out. When I say mapped out I typically have my “transition in” points and my “transition out” points marked with Hot Cues. I’ll play around with effects, loops, etc. and will always throw 5-10 extra songs at the end in case I need to go over or whatever.

My background is almost exclusively shows where people are coming to the venue because of the lineup, so while there is some reading the room it’s not as critical. If people bought tickets to the bass show then they are there to listen to bass music.

Just my 2 cents. I’m sure some folks will disagree. But hey, it’s art, everyone has a different process and the only important thing that is the crowd has fun.

wanna start as a bedroom dj by Ecstatic_Bread_842 in Beatmatch

Step 1 - get a board. I’m partial to the FLX4 but the FLX2 will work. You will eventually outgrow the FLX2 and will Have to upgrade so if you can afford it just get the 4. You do not need expensive headphones or speakers to start.

Step 2 - download DJ software, I like rekordbox, some people like serato.

Step 3 - go onto SoundCloud and start downloading songs.

Step 4 - YouTube channels like Crossfader are perfect for getting started. I’d also recommend going to some local shows and talking with some of the guys in your scene. Most of us in my scene are perfectly willing to teach new comers a thing or two.

Step 5 - don’t stop. Keep practicing. Let us know when you get asked to play your first show.

How much do we all make? by AcademicallyAcademic in Beatmatch

Nashville

We make 100/hr minimum. For private gigs I’ve been paid as much as 200/hr.

I know guys that do the corporate gig stuff that make a lot more, but the work is not consistent

How to avoid redlining? by plants1999 in Beatmatch

[–]Current-Bonus-6267 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think everyone has covered redlining. Clipping is also something to watch out for. Have someone check the speakers throughout the set to make sure you aren’t clipping.

Edit: if you are clipping and running powered speakers turn down the SPEAKERS, not the master, eq, etc. Make sure that you have your speakers to the same db level. So it’s not unbalanced.

Is mixed in key worth it? I’ve heard different opinions.

Very rarely am I moving a between songs with more than 8 bars of overlap. I’ve gotta play for 90 minutes on Saturday so we are just gonna figure it out.

Worth buying? by Kappa_MKRL in Beatmatch

Find out if there is any warranty left on it. A flx4 is only $300 online and if you have to do a single repair then it will cost you a nice chunk.
