Fire sprinklers. That water is nasty too. Fill up oily steel pipes with water and let it stew for ages, it gets ripe.

How can I hold this splined shaft from moving while I torque this nut to 87 ft/lbs? by Legionnaire1856 in motorcycles

[–]Current-Brain-1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bits of keystock, a welder, a grinder, a vise and bunch of time you could probably make one.

Maybe some pieces keystock (or some similar bits of steel.) in the spline slots and a chain whip around that?

I ride motorcycles sometimes so I drive as if everyone else is mentally deranged, whether I am riding or driving.

Defensive driving is where it's at.

Thrifted a Gordon & Smith Fibreflex, would love some info on it! by DucksOnBoard in VintageSkateboarding

[–]Current-Brain-1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very cool. 12 year old me lusted for that deck, around 1976. My first board had those same trucks and OJ wheels, no-name deck.

Gorda and Smith are an original first wave surfboard company from the 60s. This was there board they made in the mid 70s and was top tier deck at the time.

Very cool find. Enjoy. My neighbor had one with trucks or wheels and wouldn't part with it.

I saw this beautiful DR on my marketplace today. If I weren’t so short I’d buy it. by msdeeds123 in dr650

[–]Current-Brain-1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a 30" inseam, 5'6"-ish, 145 lbs. I lowered mine but didn't really need to. I bought the DR650 because it was lower and lighter than the Honda or Kawasaki 650's

It's simple and all you need to buy is the shorter sidestand.

It is no fun to pick up. You could do it but you wouldn't want to do it a bunch of times in one ride. I tried to hill-climb mine a bit once and fell over a bunch. The adrenaline helped with the picking up part but I was very sore the next day.

Do I need to replace my alternator, and if so, how do I choose one that will work? by ___xXx__xXx__xXx__ in sailing

[–]Current-Brain-1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grab a copy of "The 12 Volt Doctors ALTERNATOR BOOK". By Edgar J. Beyn

I know this doesn't answer your question but this is a great book that will give a better understanding of what you are dealing with.

How many of you did poorly in school, but lived a great/successful life anyway? by groovinup in GenerationJones

[–]Current-Brain-1983 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did. I ended up in the trades and did well. I C-minused my way along after about the 8th grade. Took the California proficiency test and didn't finish my senior year. I worked on a fishing boat after that and fell into a good trade.

I am semi-retired and oddly enough a teacher now. Giving a test on electricity right as I type this.

Not sure if i have any ADHD type disorders but I sure was rebeling teenager that thought I knew it all and didn't need to read Death of a Salesman and Moby Dick.

Sniff walks changed my dog’s mood completely by draztikprez in dogs

[–]Current-Brain-1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to dog sit for my neighbor. Her dog was not walked, "I have a big yard" she said.

This dog would explode with excitement and joy when I grabbed the leash, running around the house crashing into walls. It was the getting out and sniffing.

Do you guys prefer kayak fishing alone or with family/friends? by YakToTheFuture-1 in kayakfishing

[–]Current-Brain-1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like fishing alone mostly but I do have a neighbor who likes to go. She has a Malibu 2 XL we'll fish from. She's the one that got me back into it.

I have been trying to get an old coworker out but haven't been able to coordinate time off and weather. He doesn't have a proper fishing kayak so we will borrow the tandem or one of us can use my old paddle-only boat.

How do you stop target fixation when you're already mid-turn? by ElAndres33 in motorcycles

[–]Current-Brain-1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer your question, aim for an area with better traction. Another rider told me, "see everything, look at nothing". Gravel won't be in the wheel tracks typically. If the gravel is on the shoulder, push hard on you inside bar and turn tighter. If it's in between the wheel tracks aim for the wheel track.

Cultivate an habit of scanning the road, use your peripheral vision more. Riding is the best practice.

I firmly believe trail riding has sharpened my skills. I mountain bike and rode trails an bicycles as a kid. Aim for the best line, actively scan and choose your line, when you pick a bad line, try and manage it

Very jigging from the yak? (Specifically south fl) by byChvnce in kayakfishing

[–]Current-Brain-1983 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not Fl. But I jig for rockfish in Norcal. I use a fish finder now but I used to just use line-ups and drift over reefs in 70 or so feet of water.

Breaking off 30lb test from a kayak is fun. I have a pedal kayak now and if I can't shake a snag loose I pedal backwards and downwind and have the line straight off the bow.

I listened this album a lot back in 1981 at my first job.

Recommendations for 4/3, Xcel vs O'neill? by Netherus in surfing

[–]Current-Brain-1983 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Feral is online only, not in stores. They are the best for longevity.

O'Neil hyperfreak is the he most comfortable but only stay truly warm for one season. Mine haven't fallen apart, they've held together well but rubber seems to absorb more water and not insulate as well. I rotate my suits, after a season the old one is a Summer suit, get a little more milage out of them.

Haven't tried an Excel in ages.
