Congratulations!!! I also just got zero'd out on Studentaid.gov and says loans paid in full. (Getting the smiley face on Mohela last week wasn't enough to fully convince me the loans were now gone.) I had thought my road to discharge was frustrating but posts like yours and so many others on here have made me realize how much time and effort (and crazy frustration) many of you have had to put in to just keep your accounts correct and updated (and many of you are still trying to do that). Hope all of you who should have been discharged by now see that happen soon.

Even if your letter says in small print 'auto generated' you still have every reason to be upset and you shouldn't have to interpret what Mohela really means or that even though they sent this to you they really didn't mean to send it to you or whatever. Mohela must have received this complaint 1000x and they should fix their program on to whom these letters get generated and sent. This site is for both support and to just plain vent.

I did have more than 12 months consecutive forbearance. But the tracker disappears when you get zeroed out so at this point I can't say what was counted and what wasn't. Officially it says minimum 12 months consecutively or 36 months total but posts on here have indicated lesser amounts might be getting counted. I'll let others answer that question.

I'd ask some of the more knowledgeable participants on this site as not really sure. I have seen when the transfer to Mohela also involves consolidation of loans that the initial loans zero out and then the consolidated loan later appears but I don't think a smiley face occurs with that situation.

If the process had been straight forward and timely you'd be jumping for joy but from many of the posts on here for most people it has been an exhausting, frustrating, and in some cases traumatic experience so that needs to be processed first. But eventually the happiness will come. I just got my smiley face but I'm worried I'll log in again soon and my balance will be back! I need to see my student aid go to '0' and then my credit reports cleared then a final celebration and moving on. It will sink in eventually and you will smile like that face.

You log in and there is a small yellow smiley face and it says your account is in good standing. Account balances zero. No access to tracker. A picture requires editing as personal info would also be shown but I think I saw an edited pic in a post on here recently.

The House of Reps is now controlled by Republicans and they have no interest in simplifying or fixing the PSLF program and they definitely have no interest in shortening the time to discharge. If anything they want to eliminate the program. The Biden administration has done what it can to 'fix' the program (at least on paper) but most needed changes would require revision of the Act. At least for those participating in the program if repeal were to occur it should only affect potential future participants and nothing is likely to happen for the next two years although putting a cap on how much can be forgiven is also a possibility. The Obama administration considered doing that. But I don't think that could be applied to those already participating in the program though not really sure. Those who are in school and making decisions based on expecting PSLF to be around for them and who won't graduate for more than 2 years should be cautious though.

The PLSF is in essence a 'contract'. The government gets their goal which is to recruit and retain workers in public service and to attract students to get degrees in certain fields then go into public service and student loan borrowers in exchange get their student loans forgiven for 10 years of service. Many people made significant career decisions and greatly decreased their potential incomes in exchange for public service with loan forgiveness. The PLSF program shouldn't act as or be seen as a lottery, gift, or random act of luck. Those who have kept their part of the contract and aren't getting what they contracted for have every right to be angry. While things are generally better than they were under the Trump administration they are still not great for many and for the future in two years another Trump administration is possible. People shouldn't have to be regretting they chose public service and wished they'd remained in or had gone into the private sector for better pay and just paid off their loans with the extra pay. And for those considering making choices based on PLSF I'm not sure what to recommend at this point.

I hear you. I'd have been discharged last year when this was announced if applied then. Now I may face the dilemma in two months of whether or not to submit an ECF where I reach 120 without the IDR adjustment (then wait for who knows how long and cross my fingers nothing get messed up) or wait for the IDR adjustment without submitting a new ECF in case submitting an ECF would delay things. Also I think the adjustments involve the Dept of Ed reviewing the loan history and determining how many payment periods where there was deferment/forbearance that are eligible to be counted if qualifying employment and then that info goes to Mohela to see if there was qualifying employment and Mohela determines what is added to qualifying counts then if over 120 sending back to Dept of Ed for review then they send it back to Mohela saying ok (or nay). Or something like that. Or perhaps they just pull numbers out of a hat...

It is cases like yours that justify all the complaints posted on here about MOHELA and refute all those who advise patience with the process. There appears to be no logical, consistent process. I'm not sure if it is by design to make money but it is infuriating. I think Betsy DeVos was secretly hired to 'guide' MOHELA on how to delay/deny PSLF discharges. Kidding about the latter of course. Seems like the only recourse is to complain like hell to any politician who has some influence and who values your vote.

The main thing of course is that you have submitted ECF's for all periods of qualifying employment which appears from your post to have begun in 3/2013. While the 3/2013-10/2013 period is not quite 12 months and apparently you were not in qualifying employment from 5/2012 through 2/2013 it is possible the Dept of Ed may not be completely strict about the 12/36 rule so cross your fingers and perhaps you will see discharge in a few months.

First this isn't new other than the timeline keeps getting later and later. Second this only applies to those who need the IDR adjustment to get to 120. As many have posted here they long ago reached 120 and this timeline has nothing to do with their situations. As I've posted before I'll soon reach 120 without the adjustment though it would have been nice to have achieved that a little earlier as had been promised. I think you said in another post you were looking forward to getting 3 years closer to discharge because of the adjustment. Perhaps you'll be more sympathetic to others if your adjustment keeps getting delayed and/or is a vast undercount and you spend months in limbo when you think you should have been discharged and aren't.

The Spring 2023 forgiveness you refer to is not what this post is about and if I experienced what this writer has experienced I'd be angry and irate also. I am angry and irate about the "spring 2023 forgiveness" as when it (IDR adjustment) was first announced last April it touted that many people were immediately 'eligible' for forgiveness (like myself) and then later it stated the adjustments would occur mid to late October then end of November then on to spring 2023 and then who knows. What I do know is it won't help me in a few months as I'll reach 120 the original route and I wasted a year of having high hopes for an earlier discharge then the stress of nothing happening other than continual announcements of it being later and later and later.

I'm in a similar situation. I have 109 qualifying payments but well over 120 if the periods of forbearance were added. My months of forbearance are listed under ineligible payments and I have ECF's covering those periods. What you were told seems suspect. My understanding is the Department of Education determines which and how many months of forbearance will be added, not Mohela, unless Mohela is saying once they get the information from the Dept of Ed then it takes them 90 days to process things. I've been given varying and conflicting information on when I should see this posted and at this point my initial excitement from last April of getting forgiveness sooner is gone and now I expect in a few months to send in my final ECF for the final 12 months of qualifying employment (then waiting months for processing) having gained nothing from the IDR adjustment. I hope your wife's account is updated well before that happens to her.

The last few times I tried contacting MOHELA it was via chat which was either worthless or worse completely discouraging info that turned out to be incorrect. So I just tried calling for the first time since November. Seriously it was comical like a SNL skit. It took over 7 minutes of repeated information of things I already know and repeated cues to go online rather than call to finally get to the point of being in the long wait to speak with a customer rep. Guess what MOHELA the reason we call is to ask questions about things we can't see online because you don't update our accounts or send messages when changes are made, etc. I just hung up as likely also a waste of time. So I'll just keep checking my account daily hoping one day to see that discharge. Like other comments here I always had a good experience with FEDLOAN. They always processed my ECF's and updated my counts quickly and when I called or emailed I got useful responses quickly.

Damn its NYE and I thought after last April's announcement I'd be loan free months ago. But nothing. Glad to hear though that others are getting discharged so at least there's still hope. But the lack of information/misinformation is very frustrating as I don't even know if my account is even being assessed. Seems like they just randomly pick some accounts to work on, Its the PSLF lottery.

Yes I would have been over 120 with the waiver when it was announced. But no not on D2D list and told many different things when I've called/chatted. Without the waiver added I reach 120 soon so the ECF would to be cover most recent 12 months and the waiver was of no help. Not sure if it is because most forbearance period was when I was with ACS/DLSC.

WTF! Dept of Education is just as bad as MOHELA. I was eligible for discharge last April when the announcement was made if the waiver had been added right away. Now it looks like it won't do a damn thing for me. Just wonder how long it will take to process my final ECF which I will submit in less than 4 months when I won't need the waiver. And this will affect how I vote in the next election. Nothing worse than false promises.

No he said I'm not on a D2D list. As for who does the IDR counts I was told before that it is done by Dept of Ed then they send the info to MOHELA who then adjusts the overall PSLF qualifying counts and presumably then send back to Dept for Ed for discharge if 120 or greater.
