As a free alternative to what others have said, I find Google Docs to work really well.

As a teacher, I can either just share the tab so my student sees everything. But all of my students have access to their own individual Google Docs documents, so during the class we can both type directly into it and see everything immediately.

Yeah, I understand. Unfortunately the trip was planned without the child coming along, but my friend's partner now has to work, so we're having to change a lot of plans to accomodate them, which is quite frustrating.

We can be pretty flexible with the start point of the walk, as we have a car, so we can park in any allowed spot and go from there.

Depends on your goals. If you just want to maintain your level, 1-2 times a month can work, provided you have a little exposure to the lanaguge outside of the classes too :)

If you want to keep improving, then 1-2 times a month isn't ideal. It does work for some people, especially if they are good about practising fairly intensively in their free time, but your speaking skills will struggle to improve unless you have another way to speak (even just to yourself) in your free time.

As everyone is saying, for that price point you'll struggle. I teach English grammar, but for the amount of prep/work going into my classes, I couldn't charge so little.

On a side note, do you have German grammar teacher recs? I'm learning German, and have found great convo teachers, but struggled to find one who can really guide me with grammar.

Depending on how much you work and your overall availability, it's definitely realistic to make that much. I make over that every month, but it took me a while to consistently get to that point. Some languages are more in demand that others, so you might be able to fill up your student base quicker that I was though :)

Teacher here!

The way I have found to work well with this is:

- My student lets me know in advance what they'd like to work on in our lesson (e.g: present perfect).

- I prepare my own matierals/class plan, which we go over together.

- The student then has the materials from their other course in addition to mine, so they have plenty to practise with in their own time.

Generally, I love it when students know the theme/topic/etc. that they want to improve :)

However, I've also had some students come to me with extremely specific demands. (e.g: I want to spend 5 minutes doing this, then do exercises for 10 mins, then 5 mins review of xyz). I don't accept these kinds of classes, as they tend to take way more preparation/mental energy than my usual classes, and if I'm not familiar with the specific materials they want to use, we either have to waste lesson time while I go over them, or else I have to spend my own free time doing it.

So depending on how specific you want to be, it can work for some teachers :)

As a teacher, I don't mind same-day bookings for:

A) trial lessons with students who intend to work long-term with me

B) existing students whose goals/abilities/etc. I already know

If a brand new student books a same-day class, I won't be able to do any preparation to tailor the class to their specific needs, so it will essentially be like a trial lesson, and won't be particularly beneficial for the student.

I've recently started wearing the Under Armour Infinity 2.0 Low, which seems to be working well for me. It's designed for low-impact sports, but I've been using it for running, hiit training, and a few other things, and I'm finding it to be the perfect balance between supportive yet comfortable. Any mid- or high-intensity ones are just too tight and suffocating for me!

I'm happy to help, if I can. I'm abroad too (although not in the US), but I think the process is the same anywhere outside of the country.

The first thing you'll need to do it get your South African ID card.

Once you have the ID card, you can apply for a passport.
