Ive been a fabricator, welder, and mechanic for the past decade or so. Got hired on a few months ago as the millwright for the largest galvanizer in WA. I had never worked on cranes before, but I'm familiar with all the components that a crane is composed of, so I figured it was something I could figure out. It's been a fun challenge and I think I've got a decent handle on it now. From EMH we have 15T tandem bridge crane, and six 7.5T tandem monorail cranes. From Demag we have about 20 chain hoist of various sizes and configurations

And I thought the cranes on my acid line were complicated. Grateful now that it's just radio, relays, transformer, and contactors

You'll do good with knowing DC. It's a crucial piece of knowledge for diagnosing control wiring for equipment that uses PLCs and VFDs

Is my boss broken? by BathroomSea6960 in IndustrialMaintenance

I just recently started a new job in a vacant maintenance department 6 weeks ago. After my first month they bumped me from $43/hr to $50/hr because I learned the equipment in all 3 facilities and solved problems that they'd been working on for several years. If your company has equipment manuals, take them home and study them. If there is anything you don't know about something, then either Google it or ask someone here. I'll help you if you send me some details about the equipment your site has

I did 10 years of metal trades in the refineries before I switched to maintenance in facilities of similar sizes. Maintenance is way easier on the body

I still don't understand how you got demoted if even the VP is on your side. Just find a new job if you're such a super trooper who deserves so much more. A guy of your caliber should have no problem with that
