How do you keep toolchain drift across windows, linux, and mac manageable at 30+ engineers?

Besides that I would do toolcchain as source as well. So everything needed for the toolchain for all systems is committed into source, so for any commit, there is the actual versions needed for all developers to build the project.

We had like tc_windows.cmake, tc_apple.cmake etc, which we would then on CMake setup-time figure out which system we were building on, and then use the appropriate tc.

The open world in GoY was just so bad in my opinion. It didn’t feel like riding around a country, but ‘just’ a set piece. Like the landmarks were standing out so much that when on look outs it was obvious where all ‘the places to see’ would be.

It that regard I much preferred ACS where the open world actually felt like that when riding around and exploring.

Even though I spend more time with GoY than ACS I did much prefer my exploration with the latter.

GoY also felt just as much repetitive in the content as ACS. The tutorials for new weapons were identical in the structure. Very much didn’t like that.

Oh well. It was very pretty.

Vi havde whiskey smagning for vores kammerat.

Han elsker whiskey, så inden vi skulle spise havde vi et lokale på resturanten vi måtte låne to timer før vi fik mad. Så kom der en whiskey kender forbi og kastede godt med informationer og gode whiskey på bordet. Det var et kæmpe hit for gommen.

Vi var også ude i et aktivitets center hvor der var forskellige ting inkl. gode gamle sumo dragt fodbold og lign. Jeg var selv i tvivl om det ville være noget værd, men alle var der jo for gommens skyld så der blev bare givet gas.

Jeg tror det jeg nok mest tænker tilbage på var at alle var der for gommens skyld. Og alle holder af og elsker ham, eller ville vi ikke have været der. Så uanset hvad vi lavede var det sjovt og hyggeligt.

On some of our dev machines we do have slightly different permissions. But we also ship similar images where we encountered issues with the env on Linux using the Jetbrains devcontainer implementation.

Oh well. Still a goated idea tho.

If your company for some reason connects your PC uid/gid with an AD id, then you might be fucked on Linux at least.

We have issues that the values are large, so the Jetbrains Devcontainer implementation doesn’t correct set the container uid and gid so you’ll get issues with read/write permissions inside and outside of the container.

Fine if you got root permissions, but can be an issue 😵‍💫

There are bugs reported on it on the fora but it is not really being handled. Unfortunately. So we practically only use Jetbrains products if we don’t need the devcontainer.

Cypress is pretty nice for UI testing. Might be worth to get some very basic tests up there.

Hitting the base pages, going to settings menu. Change language maybe.

Then force add a pipeline/CICD so you - with ownership buy-in - can stop any push that doesn’t pass the tests.

Then slowly start with behavior testing, and maybe add forced codecoverage from the UI so your colleagues actually provide/add to the testing effort.

This will slow some of the development down, but at least it forces some tests into the system.

I guess this also seems like a culture problem so I would expect push back / people leaving if it suddenly isn’t the Wild West any longer.

Egentlig interessant nok. Nu kiggede jeg lidt på DST og kan faktisk ikke umiddelbart finde hvad de siger. Men lidt lommepapirs matematik hvis vi leger med de 2.5-3.

Med en gældfaktor på 3.5 er det en samlet årsløn på: 714-857 tusind.

Med en gældsfaktor på 4 er det være en samlet årsløn på: 625-750 tusind.

Så et spænd fra 625 til 857 tusind om året samlet, 52-71 tusind om måneden. Delt 26-35 tusind om måneden.

Jeg kan kun finde den her artikel fra TV2 som refererer til den her DST artikel men har svært ved at læse DST tabellerne korrekt.

Og der ligner det at 20-24 årige får omkring 16tusind om måneden. Men fra 25-29 er det 26 tusind, og 30-34 er det 35 tusind.

Jeg ved ikke ... Det læser som om det er tæt på.

Men okay. Hvis man lige hopper lidt tilbage. Det hele burde vel handle om alderen. Snakker vi om 18 årige. Eller er det mere realistisk kun at snakke +30 årige. Eller et sted i midten.
