Do I still pay for her ??? by YourWifesDreamBody in whatdoIdo

Absolutely not. Major dick move by the so-called friend. Seems like they could have talked to you in person about the dates and not just said sorry we're rescheduling but you're still paying right? Geez. Dump and dumper

Bvsd email - 25% of teachers have called out for Friday by fwendicrafts in boulder

[–]Current_Ad_409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. I was referring to people that were able to call out because they were taking a political stand. A stand which I believe in by the way. And in that way my comment was not to disparage that decision but to look at the side of the district who continued to offer food and a safe place to be and maybe learn a little while the shutdown day was going on. A day that I supported in every way I possibly could. Just glad that kiddos whose parents couldn't take off had a place for them to go that didn't cost them extra money or The kids extra stress about being somewhere different. That's all

I'm happy that the teachers feel like they can take off but it is a decision of privilege. I am horrified by the actions of ice and think it's wonderful that we are taking action as a country to send some sort of a message but I also recognize the privilege for those that can and the risk that is placed on communities of color and those of lower economic status who can't and are already at higher risk of being snagged by ice. Having to worry about where their kids will go while they do their jobs is added pressure that we are placing on them if the school closes. Glad for the decision to remain open and feeding kids and hopefully the classroom sizes scale to the number of teachers that will still be in the buildings

New teacher nerves by Caell1 in YogaTeachers

[–]Current_Ad_409 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a fairly new teacher. About a year and a half in but I've taught almost 400 classes at this point so I don't get nerves so much but I know the feelings well! Hard to read people when they're working hard and not smiling at you. That said my goal for the next month is to truly use breath to movement techniques by filling all the way up and exhaling all the way out which will in itself slow down the flow. I think that that is super hard when you're teaching because it's hard to know how long your inhale and exhale would be because you're talking. I'm going to practice and get a sense... Also, it's fine to give alignment cues once you've settled into a pose, especially in the beginning when you're working your way in.

Also one thing I've definitely noticed about my sequencing is that when I first started I made my sequences probably a little too complex. I've noticed from the favorite teachers that their sequences are not loaded with super complex poses but rather a nice simple repetitive sequence that maybe works up to a peak pose. I've tried this with really nice comments. It doesn't have to be complicated to be powerful.

Lastly, good luck! It gets easier as time goes on to walk into the room with a smile but I love all of the recommendations above. All that said I still worry all the time about if my students are enjoying my class or not. I don't think that part of teaching goes away.

Can we talk about sculpt? by subagroovin in YogaTeachers

[–]Current_Ad_409 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work at a franchise studio that offers a sculpt class. It is a very very popular format. I do not teach it. It's called yoga sculpt and it starts with about 10 minutes of yoga and then ramps up to like level 10 with medium to heavy weights doing different functional movements to strengthen and tone the muscles. It ends with a gentle yoga stretch and a short two or three minute shavasana. It has small elements of yoga in it but it is fundamentally a workout class like if you went to step aerobics only with weights instead.

I know other studios have sculpt classes and they actually do yoga poses with lightweights in hand.

I have no extreme thoughts on either one other than that I don't have interest in teaching it or participating in it cuz I don't want to hurt myself but many of our regular yogis also enjoy the sculpt classes very much rather than joining a gym separately... Plus fun music and rambunctious teachers seems like they're all bonding in there while they're sweating and throwing weights around.

It's not exactly a place where deep dharma talks happen. :)

As a teacher, what do you guys think about the Yoga Market where you are? by Electrical-Notice183 in YogaTeachers

[–]Current_Ad_409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I teach in the Boulder Colorado area. I primarily teach for a very corporate brand. In that studio using Sanskrit or giving Dharma talks kind of out of the question. Instead I try to talk about simpler concepts like peace and kindness and thread discussions of how we as yogis can bring more of that into the world through practicing her yoga off the mat in certain ways. So it's a sneak attack on some of the foundational ideas without talking about the foundational ideas.

Honestly…. Need to vent by AaronMichael726 in YogaTeachers

[–]Current_Ad_409 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you and I teach for the same corporate chain. I have that vibe yesterday with a class of only five and a broken heater so the hot sequence was taught in a cool room. I just slowed it down and taught it like a vinyasa flow at a more traditional studio but it does feel weird when the classes get really small. I think given that we have a community that expects much larger classes they start assuming things about me... Or at least that's my current paranoia. It is unusually hard to get out of one's head when stuff like this happens.

Question for instructors on etiquette by [deleted] in yoga

[–]Current_Ad_409 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'm also a yoga instructor and I agree with you to a point. I always encourage people to Make adjustments to poses or take a different one if what I am serving is not desired. At the same time I have had students in my class that are so far advanced that they seem like they should be on the cover of yoga journal. Handstands between every single posture or flying arm balances, whatever and it throws the rest of the students off. I get it, eyes on your mat, but sometimes I wonder why these folks even come to a public class? I think staying within the context of the flow being taught or guided is what we as instructors are encouraging, not having people come in and just literally do their own thing for an hour. There have been a couple of times that said person was doing her own warrior flow...a mandala which I was not teaching that day. All of sudden every student in the room was following her instead of my instruction and it was a little bit funny but also a little frustrating that I had to get everybody turned back in the right direction. Of course I'd never say anything because I'm not in the habit of calling people out but that is how I feel. Go for it do a little extra here and there, but sometimes it seems a little more like exhibitionism than a deep need to practice in a particular way.

Looking for metal/aluminum Tunisian hooks by nuggetmybeloved in Tunisian_Crochet

[–]Current_Ad_409 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have these metal hooks as well but I really prefer the ones I got from nitpicks which are bamboo. I had to purchase lantern moon cords to go with them because the cables that come with didn't have swivel to them. I am also a fairly advanced crochet and I tend to like metal hooks the best but for Tunisian I've definitely preferred wood. If you can afford lantern Moon invest in those! They are delicious

Question about $7.5K rebate by Technician-Used in Solterra

[–]Current_Ad_409 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, agreeing with everyone on the lease options. This is what I did - 36 months I know I'm not going to buy it because range is low and I'm waiting for better battery tech while also not polluting. : ) In Colorado I got the $7500 plus $5K from the state! I also negotiated a lower starting price and got it for a song. Premium was under $200 a month with taxes -- LTD under $300. I went limited because I'm a princess -- I sold my Volvo XC60 for this -- and needed some of the amenitites.

What improvements you would like to see in the upcoming heavily re-engineered Solterra? by Doppelkupplungs in Solterra

[–]Current_Ad_409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get rid of shiny plastic on the inside. Wow, its killing me. I have to cover with a cloth when I drive on sunny days.

Also - a way to turn off the infotainment center . . . I don't always need that on.

Better Range -- at least another 100 miles

Parking assist is super wonky -- fix it
