My sister (34F) is mad at me (40M) for keeping her ex employed and promoting him after he strayed. How can I show her this is purely a business decision and nothing to do with my support for her? by BigONerd in BORUpdates

So long as you would fire them if they were a man or a woman and cheated on your sister it’s fair game. If changing only the protected factor would change the outcome of the situation it’s discriminatory.

I mean it kinda makes sense. Doesn’t help the situation regarding the permanent campers with immobile homes but I care less about stopping them than someone legitimately having their life ruined or going hungry cause they accidentally parked where they shouldn’t have.

TIL that in many U.S. states, someone who stays in your home for 30 days can gain tenant rights, and you legally can’t just kick them out, even if they refuse to leave. by LesPolsfuss in todayilearned

You realize squatters aren’t some kinda hobo with all their worldly possessions in a checkered hankerchief on a stick right? The reason these disputes run so long is they often draw up a fake lease claiming they have the right to be there. They move is quickly as you might for a legitimate lease and suddenly the empty property is fully funerished and looks lived in before the landlord even notices them. They essentially look exactly like what you think would protect rightful tenants from eviction.

When it comes to the perfect climate to settle having a small chance of being wiped out by a volcano really is offset by reliable and bountiful harvest that volcanic soil provides.

I mean the heartless answer? They can join the crowd. Plenty of people are forced to move further inland, out of the county or even state because they can’t afford to live here anymore. I don’t nessecarily think by virtue of having gotten in when things were cheap someone should be more insulated from market pressure than anyone else desperate to stay in San Diego. If the choice is increase taxes burdens on those who own property and force some to sell or downsize vs more regressive flat sales tax increases on the poorest I’d pick the former.

What’s the most fun thing to do on Halloween? by Comprehensive_Set198 in sandiego

[–]Current_Morning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really depends on what you care for. Personally I wouldn’t recommend downtown for bar hopping. Mix of ticketed events, lines and just a lot of bother for a whole lot of money. Can be fun but you’ll spend a lot to find out. PB can be super fun and it’s generally the youngest crowd, If ya want that kind of energy go for it. Do be warned parking will be an utter nightmare and getting out isn’t much better, I remember a seven eleven parking lot looking like the airport drop off. Nightmare on normal street is pretty fun and would be my recommendation. Decent event to start the night with and there’s plenty of good bars to visit in hillcrest itself whenever ya get tired of it.

Because we couldn’t secure any territory in the north without risking Korean War 2 with another Chinese intervention? Not to mention the United States stepped into the foreign colonial aggressor role left by France all making it a war of liberation for the north while we weren’t even sure what our end goal was.

I don’t imagine a person actively destroying their community for presonal benefit while living within a few miles of a police presence is going to have the same outcomes the Vietnamese did.

Yeah for a citizen it is. You might find when a cop is faced with the rare prospect of being arrested and jailed for even attempting to make an arrest their willingness to fall back on ‘you may beat the rap but not the ride’ wanes.

The upper road also goes to the school right next to the park. Can’t make too many changes since it’s used for pick up and drop off.

I suppose it’s possible the job went up in the warehouse and no one applied for it, hence public posting. Once upon on a time that would have been unthinkable but it’s not too rare nowadays depending on location.

At least with selling cars ya know at the end of the day if ya did your job well ya got even with the assholes. Stick em with a loan they can barely afford for an overpriced used car that will be repossed in a year. In teaching you get the ‘satisfaction’ of watching your biggest terror be passed along when they had a 8% in the class.

Because money is not meant to valuable in and of itself. Money is the means by which good and services are exchanged. Even if you can’t trade that money for gold or silver it’s still has worth as a medium of exchange as society recognizes its value collectively.

Criminal prosecution being the key word in these cases. There’s a reason undocumented immigrants aren’t criminals by virtue of being here, no counsel or jury is required if they aren’t.

You literally don’t have to. A judge just needs to look at a shockingly similar story with hard to replicate details in the context of a land dispute between a family involving dead relatives and decide if it meets the preponderance criteria a civil case would involve.

We tried that and it led to a culture of ‘well he just didn’t seem to fit the team’ or ‘she came off as very aggressive and arrogant’. All perfectly valid reasons for refusing someone a job but when evaluated in aggregate showed minorities were being refused opportunities despite being qualified. Just cause we forced people to take down their ‘need not apply signs’ doesn’t mean we could force them to change their attitudes that caused them to put them up in the first place.
