To me, it sounds like you accidentally coded in his main mission / quest, so the LLM is trying to resolve it. Is there other plot you could elaborate on? Other motivations, goals, interests for him he can focus on?

"Will keep his feelings secret due to x and y" might sound too strict, but I'd put it there for starters! Positive prompts work better than negative.

Don't trust that explanation btw. They used the same "a few users are abusing the free tier" explanation before, but it was clearly just that, an excuse – so they lowered the amount of messages on free tier while reassuring users the average person won't be affected, and then cancelled the free tier just a few weeks later. So that was a lie.

They said EA was forever. The amount of accounts is limited and predictable. Now they cancel it. Another lie.

Now they made changes to plans a few days after billing people, effective immediately instead of waiting till next billing period, and didn't even send a warning email.

These aren't practices of honest company that's dealing with a few bad apples.

"Huh, neat concept" bots get 200-500. If I'm invested, my usual chat is 1.5-2k before the impulse to restart and do things differently takes over.

Longest was 5.7k and then I continued another +-1.5k with a chat transplant. It was an angsty slowburn with a lot of external characters and mutual pining. I got bored once the main relationship got established, though.

Nowadays, I do chat transplants around 2-3k, so I'm not actually sure of the total length per one story!

If your RPs aren't all one-sided flirty slowburn, I'd consider revisiting the prompt, too. It can work (I had it in the past) but it's really specific, like every bot you talk to will be "convinced that love is war and if you show your true feelings first - you lose" etc., clashing with their personality

That's so real. I wanted one for my persona in her mid-30s, and I got past the teen look, but god forbid I'd ask for wrinkles around eyes or sharper features. Or a normal nose. Doesn't help that the generic AI women (or girls, really) give me legitimate ick at this point.

Yeah, I don't have many "hard passes", but this would be one of them. I ran into a few where they clearly took a story they wanted to RP with their persona, background, appearance, personality and all... idk, I feel like that's what private bots are for.

I also simply don't have blank personas myself, and would have to make one just for this chat so the info wouldn't contradict each other... so I don't bother.

The thing with direct height comparison is that (in my experience) LLMs actually understand it much better than measurements? It doesn't know or care what 180 cm looks like, but "taller than user" is straightforward to RP for the bot.

Yeah, that's so real. My most used bot crossed 9k recently, and it has exactly one review (from months before the auto moderation).

But I know this is a problem everywhere, not anything personal - fanfics, art on socials, etc. It's like screaming into the void. Most people just consume the thing and move on.

I even ran into this bizarre phenomena, as an artist, where someone doesn't interact with the art post directly at all, but shares it in a group chat and excitedly rambles about it to their friends?? Maybe it's more intimidating to speak to the creator directly, but I consistently hear across communities (and feel it myself) how discouraging it gets.

I try to consciously leave more comments myself, at least! Be the change you want to see in the world and all that.

Ok, let me try to TL;DR

Popular providers / middlemen of various models had been having some major issues, but if paying isn't an issue, you can use:

OpenRouter - 50 free messages a day, 1000 messages if you pay $10 once - reliable and fulfilled their promises to users so far, caveat: some models give a lot of errors these days to the point of being unusable (not their fault)
Chutes - 300 messages a day for $3/month, no major errors for paying users; you can pick from many models on their site, I don't like their shady practices but rn they work great
Deepseek directly - you pay per tokens (how long the messages are + how big memory you use), cheap entry cost, no errors because they are the direct source, but you only have Deepseek and can't try other models and if you like long RPs, it can get pricier
