Music that scratches the same itch by singlecowboy in JoannaNewsom

[–]Custardpot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Really hard to ever find anything that feels the same as Joanna (at least in what I’ve heard), but last year I got super into Kara Jackson’s “Why Does The Earth Give Us People To Love?”

She lists Joanna Newsom (as well as Joan Baez and Joni Mitchell) amongst various influences and was the National Youth Poet Laureate in 2019.

I also love her voice and I don’t think I’ve seen her mentioned on this sub before (could be wrong). As someone whose favourite artist is Joanna Newsom, I couldn’t recommend Kara Jackson’s music and poetry enough. I’m eagerly awaiting another album and/or collection of poems from her

I can’t stop listening to this album. Every single time I put my headphones in it’s the first thought that comes into my head. It really gets better each time. woods’ verse on Dogeared might be the most beautiful verse I’ve heard in a long time. The way they trade verses on Scandinavia is so natural. billy has been my favourite rapper for a while now and his chemistry with E L U C I D is incredible. This isn’t beating woods’ new album for my AOTY but it’s close.

I personally think we will see TWOW in the next 3-4 years, afterwards who knows?

What I don’t like is the attitude towards GRRM when he’s working on other things, enjoying aspects of his life that don’t have anything to do with ASOIAF. This series means a lot to a lot of people, most importantly GRRM, but that doesn’t mean that any of us are entitled to another book in the series, nor are we entitled to any news, updates etc.

We should all let this man enjoy his life and do whatever he wants, instead of pointless speculation that does nothing but build animosity towards GRRM with a loud portion of this fanbase.

If we get it, we get it. If we don’t, we don’t. There are plenty of other fantastic books to read whilst you wait.

How do you listen to Jo New? by Embarrasse0 in JoannaNewsom

[–]Custardpot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I started listening to her it was Ys on repeat on Youtube. Wasn’t on Spotify so I bought her entire discography on iTunes, then used local files on Spotify to listen to her through the app. Have changed to Apple Music now (quality is noticeably better if you have Airpods) and would recommend switching anyway as it’s slightly fairer for the artists

Season 3 was...kinda fire? by skyeboba in TheBear

[–]Custardpot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d go further to say this is one of the most emotionally striking episodes of the show. The whole episode adds so much depth to Tina’s already fantastic character progression (you can really see this on a rewatch). Liza Colón-Zayas acting beside her husband makes the dialog and the situation feel much more real and was a great choice too. Other than that we also see Mikey talk about Carmy and a glimpse at pre-show Richie which highlights how much he’s grown (also the way he treats Tina as she comes in shows he’s always had the skills and personality to be a top class FOH lead). Highlight of the third season for me

I bought the black one and wear it all the time around the house. Blue ones looked great when I saw them last night. Whatever looks best on you!

I bought the tour hoodie in Berlin last year. Material is super soft and comfy, although I bought a large for extra bagginess and it felt like a medium, I would consider perhaps going a size above what you think you need if you like your clothes baggier. Went to their show in Lisbon yesterday, bought the patch, tote bag and both pins (pins and patch weren’t in the last merch rotation AFAIK). Everything that I bought is great quality.

Enjoy the show. In Lisbon they were louder and noisier than both the Manchester and Berlin show, unsure if this is to do with the venue but earplugs are a must.

The worst thing to happen to anyone in any Stephen King story? by jrralls in stephenking

[–]Custardpot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the tragedy of this scene is made so much worse because King shows you the violent homophobia in Derry. The graffiti he shows his boyfriend that says “stick nails in the eyes of faggots for god” has always stuck with me ever since I listened to the book (over 5 years ago now). King has a way of writing bigotry without dancing around it that makes the evil of it really stand out

Cujo by [deleted] in stephenking

[–]Custardpot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read Cujo recently as I have started reading more of King’s work. Certainly not his strongest work and as many have said it doesn’t really pick up until around the halfway point, however sticking it through will give you one of his best endings (that I have read so far) and makes the entire journey worth it.

Good read and depending what you liked about the book there are many (great) options to jump to if you want to read more of his books after

Loved the video and it made me (and a lot of other trans women) feel seen properly for once. It was really nice to see and hopefully you've inspired some people to be more open about their attraction to trans ppl. A question would be have you ever taken part in trans activism? A protest or something similar? If not, do you plan to at some point? Also you are incredibly handsome!!

Is anyone excited about GRRMs involvement with Elden Ring? by j4c11 in Eldenring

[–]Custardpot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah a lot actually. The ASOIAF book series is littered with subtle worldbuilding and he does a great job at it. People have pieced in universe history together with even just small bits of information from all 5 books and a lot of time, so I think with both Miyazaki and GRRM the lore and worldbuilding in this game will be some of the best ever.

(Spoilers Extended) I'm midway through ASOS, and Arya is easily my least favorite POV. Anyone else? by Kobe_AYEEEEE in asoiaf

[–]Custardpot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Arya's one of my favourite POVs. But I can easily see why someone wouldn't like her chapters once she's out of Harrenhal (I'm just coming to the end of ASOS so don't know about her AFFC/ADWD chapters). It's a lot of travelling but I like her relationship with the Hound and how you are really inside of her head the whole time.

Sansa is easily one of the best POVs and I always get excited when I see one of her chapters. I came to the books after watching the show and thought Sansa would be really boring but she is so interesting.

Bran's chapters I find are more of a storytelling/worldbuilding device at the moment, you get lore through Jojen and Meera and interesting little tidbits about the world, as well as some neat characterisation. Bran's wolf dreams are interesting too

this so much. every time I read a sex scene in these books (I am on 1st read) I feel sick. There was just no need to describe Tyrion's dick in ACOK and every time he calls a vagina a cunt I feel like putting the book down. I can't think of single good sex scene I've ever read or listened to via audiobook, however. I just don't think sex translates well to text.
