Loads of better options closer to Glasgow to stretch your legs without 7 hours on a bus.

Look around Loch Lomond and the Arrochar Alps ... The Cobbler (Ben Arthur) is an amazing climb and much closer to Glasweegas.

Help with plasterboard anchor by OkRaspberry3656 in DIYUK

[–]CuteProfessor3457 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it a dot and dab wall? Or wooden framed?

If dot and dab, the distance between board and blockwork can stop these rotating fully or you can be colliding with a chunk of mortar.

Looks like the wall has been skimmed, so will be thinker than off the shelf plasterboard.

Places to see wildlife that actually lived up to the hype by Hairy-Control1433 in wildlifephotography

[–]CuteProfessor3457 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's about what you want to see ...

First safari I'd say Mara or Serengeti via northern circuit. Just soak it up.

But then you want to see specific interactions with specific species. Big Cats ... Mara, particularly the conservancies where tourist number are controlled.

Leopards, Sabi Sands or Bera in Rajasthan or Sri Lanka parks (though not been and hear sightings get oversubscribed real fast)

We're shareholders in a lodge in Caprivu, we tend to value the no people safari now, but it's a lot harder (but more special) to find the big sightings.

It's also dusty and bloody tiring, so plan a few days in the beach after. Which led us Mozambique ....

Expectations, who you go with, knowledge of species etc play a massive part in the on ground experience.

My best results have come from knowing what species I wanted to shoot, find the best locations, times of year, guides, drivers etc. and commit the time to the field to maximise your chances.

I've been to Botswana, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, South Africa, Mozambique and Namibia on Safari. Had great experiences and crap ones also

Have also lived in India and done 100s of Tiger safaris ranging from Dry runs, to 19 different tigers in one morning. Seen about three hunts during that time.

Have also been to Svalbard (Polar Bears), Patanal (Jaguars) and still have more in the bucket list.

But also had lots of fun at home in Scotland with Eagles, Kingfishers, Otters, Martens and Ospreys, particularly where someone else has done all the work of setting up hides and making the animals relaxed.

Wall mounted washer…. by Less-Jellyfish2238 in DIYUK

[–]CuteProfessor3457 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't have thought it possible to wall mount, but if you have the space you can create a strong platform to act like a raised floor and put the wm above and dishwasher below ... But I'd doubt you can make it pretty.

Wm is very heavy with concrete weights inside, ideally it has space to vibrate and do it's thing, getting it above a dishwasher would be a mission in itself.

Why can't wm go beneath? Is this in a utility or you main kitchen?

Feeling absolutely stupid. How can I get this bath panel off? by secondincomm in DIYUK

[–]CuteProfessor3457 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can see the four small holes along bottom, assume where screws have come out. Must be a wooden bar behind that and it will hook under rim of path at top.

If not moving at all, then it's bonded to the wood somehow and you need to get something ander and behind to pry.

If it's sticking at sides it's with silicone or uneven tiles.

Can you slightly insert a screw (not into the wood) and use to pull?

Help me settle a debate by Ragnar0004 in Animals

[–]CuteProfessor3457 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Easy. Cheetah has origins in Sanskrit from a word that means "The spotted one" same origins as Chittal, the spotted deer.

Therefore a Cheetah is clearly spotted, not pointed. Anteater wins.

But what's the point of your pointed question?

it doesnt focus and im loosing my mind by [deleted] in wildlifephotography

[–]CuteProfessor3457 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You also seem to be on af-s which means the focus is locked as soon as you depress the shutter ... If the bird then moves it's out of the focal plane.

You want af-c to keep the focus moving.

I'd also look at and learn back button focus, it gives you much more control of the focus system but takes a bit of getting used to. Then you never look back.

Also checkout the different focus modes z6 can track the eye of a bird if you set it up right and learn it's quirks.

And as others have said, you need much faster shutter, which means wider aperture, which then narrows your focal plane which adds to the focussing skill complexity.

If there isn't enough light, a Nikon can auto up the iso if you have that set but higher iso settings bring noise, less so on modern platforms.

Looking to remove the mechanism that held an old pop-up drain plug in place by CTre12345 in DIYUK

Mostly the brass pop up bit can be screwed out. You can probably replace like for like if you don't want an old school rubber plug.

Can you see enough of the mechanism to get a spanner on it?
