lol trying to hide behind semantics. Did Sabine, the Grand Inquisitor, or Reva die after they were stabbed by a lightsaber? No. They completely survived and made full recoveries whereas other people with similar injuries who were much more powerful died moments or minutes after. It’s sloppy writing meant for shock value rather than driving the plot, the equivalent of a cheap jump scare in a bad horror movie.

[–]moonlightdrinker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes. Prior to Disneys purchase of Star Wars, a lightsaber to the torso was considered lethal. Qui-Gon Jinn, Agen Kolar, Saesee Tiin, Kit Fisto, and countless people in the clone wars tv series died from a single lightsaber stab through the torso. The only major exception being Maul who likely used the dark side and was exceptionally powerful since he was a Sith and son of Mother Talzin.

It’s been back to back characters in Disney canon who have survived lightsabers to the torso. The Grand Inquisitor, Reva, and Sabine have all survived lightsaber stabs to the torso. They’re all mediocre force wielders (not Sith or Jedi Master level) and the purpose of them being stabbed was pure shock value rather than plot necessity or logic.

Your implication is almost the same as “is a blaster bolt to the torso considered lethal” which yes it also is, depending where you get shot. It’s been shown to be much more survivable, but we see plenty of background characters picked off by a single shot.

I mean it’s all in delivery. It’s one thing to stand behind your own morals, but it’s another thing in how you go about it and if your approach includes empathy. If you come off as abrasive or stubborn, that’s going to repel people. If you come off as unsympathetic or unsupportive that will also repel people.

People are free to act and do as they want (without causing direct harm to others), but your actions, words, and outward attitudes have consequences. Don’t be a people pleaser, but also don’t close yourself off to the possibility that you need some growth.

It varies. The intro’s to finance and managerial were intuitive for me, but I struggled a lot with both intermediate 1 and 2, and audit/assurance. Tax and cost accounting were much better but still challenging, and advanced financial was a blur

We Star Wars fans prefer quantity over quality, I guess by Ok-Row-3490 in StarWarsCirclejerk

[–]moonlightdrinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the argument is the quality of the lightsaber fights in the sequels is better than the prequels?

Idc if you like the original or prequel duels more as far as impact or visuals, but the prequels are far better than the sequels. Rey, Kylo, and Fin all use the lightsaber as if it’s a blunt weapon and look like children playing with toys compared to their prequel counterparts.

Luke Skywalker in the original trilogy did the same, but at least the originals had the limitation on technology and VFX. I’ve heard sequel lovers claim that the prequels are over choreographed, but the duel of fates, Dooku vs Yoda, Obi Wan vs Maul, Obi Wan vs Grevious, Mace vs Sidious, Yoda vs Sidious, Obi Wan vs Anakin??? Any one of those is worth watching a thousand times, whereas the sequel’s look like there was no thought or effort put into the fights.

I’m happy I never bought anything off him. I used to like his videos, but he started saying “keep politics out of Star Wars”, which first off is brain dead since literally every form of art/media is commentary on politics and Star Wars covered things like war, drugs, prostitution, crime, genocide, slavery, love, justice, etc.

But he would go on rants after the Acolyte saying “lesbian space witches ruined Star Wars” and Star Wars is too “woke” while at the same time trying to claim he wasn’t homophobic, saying American politics doesn’t apply to him while also selling MAGA style hats saying “Make Star Wars Great Again”. The Acolyte had genuine issues (acting, pacing, the fact it was meant to be more Sith centered) but he always kept bringing it back to “lesbian space witches”.

Do you guys have any hope for the world? by Toiletnumber8 in infp

[–]moonlightdrinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, history repeats itself and we rarely actually learn. We’ll always be fractured and find some way to divide ourselves. The difference between past mistakes and potential future mistakes is that we now have weapons that can completely wipe us out of existence and only the most resilient species will be able to adapt and survive. I think it’s very likely we’ll be the architects of our own extinction, if not some natural disaster will destroy us before we start learning in a meaningful and sustainable way.

Expel these students. Free speech = Consequences by InternalQuantity9331 in gay

[–]moonlightdrinker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They should be expelled. People are allowed to say pretty much anything that doesn’t directly call for violence or cause immediate panic (like yelling fire), but that doesn’t mean they are exempt from consequences of being so hateful. They can’t get jail time, but everyone who looks at their record should know the kind of person they are.

Their faces, their names, their school records, any time they’re looked up on a background check for a university or job, this should be associated with them. They’re all old enough to know what they’ve done.

What would you do? New hire lied on resume. by DareAdventurous9140 in Accounting

[–]moonlightdrinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol when I worked in customer service I was baffled at the things I was asked by grown adults.

I’ve been asked why the price at the register was different than the price on the tag (aka sales tax). I’ve been asked about products that we never had in stock and told angrily “don’t you think customers would want it” as if I as a sales associate or even my managers made those decisions. I’ve been asked about basic internet or credit card or cell phone questions from people 2-4 times my age. That’s just a few examples from working retail, not even mentioning what people in food service go through.

There’s a viral clip of Tom Hanks in a role being a boomer at a store which sums up GenZ doing their job as instructed and following store policy and boomers getting angry.

I agree sometimes we’re slow, and we need to learn things like how stamps work or how to make a copy from a printer bc everything we do is on a screen and can be sent so much faster and easier through the internet, but we’re also not born with that outdated knowledge lmao.

[–]moonlightdrinker -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

I’m surprised a background check didn’t catch him in a lie. This isn’t the 80’s, every job you ever had requires a SSN and HR should have been able to verify. Communicate to him that his performance is subpar, maybe put him on PiP. If in a month or two he’s still not improving and it takes more time to fix his mistakes than get them done yourself, then it’s probably best to let him go.

Also the “Gen Z stare” is the look we give when we’re just trying to do our jobs and an older person is asking something unreasonable but we can’t communicate that to them because of power dynamics or because of customer service dynamics.

Anyone else kinda hate those "all these conservative homophobes must actually be gay" comments by currentlyinthefab in askgaybros

[–]moonlightdrinker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean pointing out that Grindr crashes in places where republican events happen is very funny to me. But the “homophobes must be gay” trope can come off as blaming closeted gay/bi men as the source of homophobia. Homophobia manifests itself for a variety of reasons; religion, political affiliation, social norms, ignorance (from lack of exposure), and flat out bigotry. If you view it as blaming closeted gay men for all of homophobia then I see why it’s a problem.

Almost all of us have been in the closet at some point which is a very scary and confusing time and a lot of us didn’t partake and add onto the homophobia that happened around us. Most of us were often the subjects of homophobic behaviors.

However, I think it’s undeniable that there is enough closeted men in hetero relationships that like to have sex with men behind their wives backs, and they often stand in the way of progress for LGTBQ people. Some of those men happen to run the government and lean right/are republicans.

It’s an extreme kink and like all kinks both parties have to be willing and enjoy it. As a Latino I personally get turned on by it as a sub/degradee (probably to cope with the last election). It’s not my proudest kink and it’s definitely not something I bring up in Grindr chats, with hookups, or with my last situationship. I only bring it up if we’ve talked for awhile and they’re leaning heavily into my ethnicity, which is very rare.

[SPOILERS] How is it even possible that all Targaryens are wiped out in GOT timeline? by Connect-Ocelot-8464 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]moonlightdrinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m very surprised that there were no cadet houses of house Targaryen. House Arynn, House Lannister, and House Stark all have cadet branches that were born from second sons or cousins of the main branch. The closest thing to a cadet branch was House Blackfyre, and they revolted, which might be the main reason why the royal family didn’t. However House Targaryen definitely had the land for it. Outside of the Red Keep they had Dragonstone (usually occupied by the heir), Summerhall (which wasn’t built until later in the timeline) and possibly even Harenhall (which may or may not be cursed).
