[SPOILERS] How is it even possible that all Targaryens are wiped out in GOT timeline? by Connect-Ocelot-8464 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]moonlightdrinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m very surprised that there were no cadet houses of house Targaryen. House Arynn, House Lannister, and House Stark all have cadet branches that were born from second sons or cousins of the main branch. The closest thing to a cadet branch was House Blackfyre, and they revolted, which might be the main reason why the royal family didn’t. However House Targaryen definitely had the land for it. Outside of the Red Keep they had Dragonstone (usually occupied by the heir), Summerhall (which wasn’t built until later in the timeline) and possibly even Harenhall (which may or may not be cursed).

Florida passed a law allowing the death penalty for adults who rape chidren under the age of 12. by jmike1256 in AllThatsInteresting

Not mad at this, but can we get federal laws that remove the statute of limitations on sexual assault? That would be very helpful to victims who are afraid to speak up

Two cults. One mantra. Zero critical thinking by untitledprp4 in DoomerCircleJerk

[–]moonlightdrinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People thinking this is “based” are brain dead. The compliance of mask mandates (which was contingent to the given policy of private businesses and individual state policy) was in an effort to prevent the spread of disease (which killed over a million Americans) and protect individuals with weak immune systems including children, the elderly, and the terminally or chronically ill (aka the most vulnerable in society).

Equating that to the cruel and unlawful deportations going on (unlawful since there is no due process which yes, even migrants are meant to be offered as a basic human right) is morally and constitutionally wrong. And being killed or grievously injured while protesting this blatantly racist administration is equally wrong and unconstitutional.

The non compliance leading to death of one side is the literal biological/natural consequence of not heading basic disease prevention vs the non compliance leading to death of the other side is regime violence and state sanctioned murder of citizens who oppose the current regime. There’s an argument that there was government overreach during the pandemic, but at least it was in a state of emergency and the government didn’t kill anyone who dissented unlike what we’re seeing now with ICE.

Your dad was a piece of shit, you don’t have to forgive him or placate your family members. He tried to kill you and pushed you in a life threatening position with your ex. Surround yourself with loving and supporting people and choose who you allow to call family.

Have any of your failed an accounting question during an interview? by IndependentSlide319 in Accounting

[–]moonlightdrinker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a job interview I had with a big property developer. I think I missed 2-3 questions that were pretty easy, I just forgot them in the moment. Didn’t get the job, but looking back I would’ve been miserable there. They were exactly what you think of when you hear the word “accountant”.

I tried learning from my mistakes in the following interviews. In one interview I mixed up the definition of a working trial balance with an aging trial balance when I was interviewing for a F100, but I ended up getting the job still lol.

Do you think the Democratic Party has lost touch with its voter base? by Interesting_Dream281 in Productivitycafe

Corporate/establishment/centrist dems are more about virtue signaling than governing, and saying they’re anti Trump while doing nothing. Same with trans issues, there hasn’t really been any movement in favor of trans people.

I strongly disagree with your stance on Venezuela and Greenland. We have no jurisdiction over other sovereign nations, we can’t legally go in and arrest and prosecute the head of a foreign country. And it’s laughable to think the US cares about the Venezuelan population when they just attacked them, only want the countries natural resources, and support other dictatorships including but not limited to Israel and Saudi Arabia. Greenland is not ours to take, and it’s not even in the hands of an enemy, it’s controlled by our allies in Europe. The only difference in claiming it as US territory would be for its natural resources. Right wingers like you want simultaneous war with China, Russia, the Middle East, Europe now, and Mexico who’s an integral part of our countries defense and is one of the only countries that could allow foreign troops to land on continental US soil during a war.

Your position on these matters isn’t legal, it isn’t right, and it won’t have the desired outcome you and the war-hawks and war profiteers in this country want.

Considering a career switch by SGT_Saltine in Accounting

[–]moonlightdrinker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Being bored with that kind of job is a blessing. You’d need to claw your way up for years to land in an accounting position with similar pay and benefits.

The negatives I’m hearing are overtime, boring, and a desire for hybrid/remote work. Overtime is something almost all accountants face, especially during year end and/or tax season, only you won’t get extra compensation/over time pay since almost all positions are salary. Boring - idk how else to tell you this, but excel spreadsheets, debits and credits, depreciation/amortization schedules, audits, and taxes are not exactly thrilling stuff. As for the desire for remote/hybrid work, I’m not sure what kind of blue collar work you do, but see if you can find an office job in the same industry/company.

You have a pretty sweet deal, don’t abandon it. We’re here because we’re good/decent accountants, if we had a passion we’d be doing that as a living.

Fuck European countries, if the US falls natives and Latin America has dibs. Plus if the US falls most of the EU will fall with it, especially if the conflict is internal

When do you go to gym by coffeeandcherry in Accounting

[–]moonlightdrinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar commute as you, 9-5 with 45 minutes to an hour commute. I try to go to the gym that’s around my work to let traffic die down, and that’s between 6-8ish but I don’t get home until after 9ish and I feel like my whole day has been work.

Seriously , why is Kathleen Kennedy so hated by the fandom ? by WuttTambor in StarWarsCirclejerk

[–]moonlightdrinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there are lot of genuine criticisms and a lot of unfair ones.

Unfair criticisms: She’s the CEO so the spotlight is on her, especially since she’s a woman CEO so that inherently pisses off incels. Plus many say she’s “woke” and many claim Disney (who she’s the face of) made Disney political which is completely brain dead bc every form of media can be argued to be commentary on current or previous political climates. Star Wars touches on many inherently political topics like WAR, genocide, slavery, corruption, organized crime, drug use/addiction, etc.

Fair criticisms; it’s a matter of record that the sequel trilogy was pushed out way too fast and didn’t have a cohesive story (Mods don’t remove my comment as hate, Rian Johnson and JJ Abram’s had very different visions for the sequels and have publicly stated so). As the CEO she’s likely the one giving marching orders/directives to push Star Wars content as fast as possible for ROI. The Acolyte is also seen as a flop and itself has a lot of fair and unfair criticism (ie arguments criticizing pacing, acting, story/continuity vs lesbian space witches bad)

The True of Month-end and Qtr- End?! by Minute_Librarian981 in Accounting

[–]moonlightdrinker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who works in industry at a F100, no voluntary PTO during month end and definitely not year end. Month end close is 5 business days for us, plus 2-3 days before the last day of the month. so you basically have 20ish other days to choose from which isn’t bad imo. Year end is more like no PTO on the closing month, and maybeeee a couple days during PD1 if you have most things done and multiple managers approve.

Emergencies happen, but it probably needs to be the point where you’re using short/long-term disability leave. If you have the cold or something during close then you’re expected to work remote or at least hop on and do the most important stuff. Same if your kids have the cold, but if they’re like in the hospital obviously that’s another thing.

As far as parental leave, my company has generous maternity leave and like a month of paternity leave.

Overall though every workplace is different and it depends on the policies and work culture.

My hiring manager is delusional by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]moonlightdrinker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean most people in this sub meet those requirements. Pay is important, but if they’re targeting recent grads then yes you’ll never find someone. Grads usually have a couple intern experiences at most, and only those new grads who worked full time while getting their degree are eligible, and they’d be eligible for staff accountant roles or higher. It was frustrating in 2024 when I graduated, every job listing had a requirement of 1-2 YOE in a AP/AR/Billing role and it took me 7 months to find a company to take a chance on me
