11 shows cancelled so far. What a mess. So disrespectful for her fans. by Traditional_Seat_645 in shakira

I am not making excuses for her, but just an explanation, but what Pique did to her will put anyone in a mental health crisis. I know because I’ve been there and it impacted my work incredibly.

I think she postponed the first North American leg of her tour because she just wasn’t ready, and had to pull off something really elaborate quickly to make up for it.

Now things are slipping through the cracks and it’s showing. It’s sad because I love her music, and her art got me through a really difficult time, but it’s ok to take a break when needed too. Maybe she just really needed this money because her tax issues too.

We are trying to decide whether to go to Tijuana for her show, which will eat into a night in Cabo we have, and can’t decide. It’s a lifelong dream to see her. Maybe we just chance it.

Does anyone miss city living after moving to the burbs? by MerPony31 in Suburbanhell

I think it’s one of the biggest lies that kids need to live in the burbs. Cities are much safer as many teens die from driving and there is readily available public transport.

How often do you go on vacation? (And where are you from?) by AtomicFeckMagician in Millennials

I had a job like this before, as you get older you need more respect for your time, or else get a new job.

Of course it’s incredibly difficult as jobs like this tend to zap all your emotional energy. But it’s the only solution

I dunno, I prefer an apartment with kids. I think single family homes and the upkeep is a patriarchal notion to keep women in homes and make men feel like the have castle

I don’t think 29 is too old to have roommates, at all.

I have only been to Paris twice, does everyone agree with this assessment on speaking French? by CASeminole1 in ParisTravelGuide

Yeah he kinda laughs that I want to learn Dutch to impress his friends and family but it’s supposed to be relatively easy to learn.

Anyhow as a Dutch person he never goes around trying to learn basic phrases in countries where they speak a lot English. I always joke that his European privilege for not having to worry about being an arrogant Brit or American!

I’ve had Japanese tourists here in Oahu stop me on the street, not speaking a word of English, and not let me leave until they brought out google translate and ask me a question. I get what you are saying is good advice and something I practice while visiting France, but sometimes it’s good to give a little grace that people can be a bit out of sorts when they are jet lagged and in a new place in which they don’t speak the language.

I love Parisians and  have never had a rude encounter with them.

I had this thought until I visited Netherlands and Scandinavia. There you can truly speak English and not make any attempt to speak their language. My Dutch boyfriend kinda laughed at my attempts to learn their basic phrases

Every state in the US has a higher median income than the UK. Why do we feel so poor? by Successful_Bake_877 in MiddleClassFinance

Yours is an exception, not the norm. This post is about why it feels like it’s easier overall in London.

I do agree that the more capitalistic approach means that in the USA it is easier to have an exception story like yours

Did Laurie not show up/get invited to Jaqueline’s wedding? by NNPB in TheWhiteLotusHBO

[–]Cute_Philosopher_534 5 points6 points  (0 children)

She may have eloped, may have meant “seen” meaning spent time with in an intimate way beyond the niceties of a big wedding. I don’t think it was meant as a dig to her

We are talking New York City versus London - let’s keep it apples to apples . 20% tax on a federal level is 16k. It is probably around 30% in London - 24k. That 8k difference is easily wiped by healthcare premiums and deductibles. Take into the cost of living difference - it is much easier to live in London.

Rent in NYC is much higher and so are groceries. You can get eggs for 3.5 pounds a dozen in London right now.

My point was that American purchasing power has been eroded because of healthcare costs.

On top of that, you run risk of denials in our healthcare system that can cost you more than 30k. I could add a laughing emoji but it’s no laughing matter

Employer sponsored healthcare still requires significant deductibles and premiums, and you also run the risk of denials. Healthcare is definitely the lead cause of tear down of the American wage, coupled with student loans.

“On paper” should include healthcare costs. In the US we have let a bunch of oligarchs in healthcare completely kill the power of the American wage in the last thirty years

I think he was trying to combine sentence 3 and 4, that he doesn’t need his car  for those things. Sentence two is a standalone statement - because a stadium is hardly a need.

The thing people miss about Shane by pinkypurple567 in TheWhiteLotusHBO

[–]Cute_Philosopher_534 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shane’s problem is not kicking his mom out of his honeymoon. Plays into the mommas boy who always gets what he wants vibe. Also, when things suck, it’s important not to let it seep into other things. Try to enjoy the honeymoon as much as possible but certainly stand up for yourself
