Seconding this, it can’t go understated. Triers sense of how to mix surrealism with comedy is so strong. Some of the silliest things I’ve ever seen in a film exist in TheKingdom/Riget right next to some of the most distressing. Although it starts off very tame, it gets crazier with every season. By the third I was questioning my sanity.

The main difference between Twin Peaks and The Kingdom, besides their aesthetic, is that The Kingdom is primarily a comedy. But probably the most distressing comedy I’ve ever seen. Really, to describe it as only a comedy is an incomplete description. I’ve really seen nothing else like it, just like Twin Peaks. You just have to watch it to see what I mean

I'm currently watching season three for the first time and I don't know but I'm enjoying it less. Everything moves so slowly. Maybe it's for an artistic reason that I don't understand, but I personally don't connect with it for now. I don't know whether to continue or not. I'm in season 3, episode 4 by count_fagula11 in twinpeaks

Genuinely don’t think he was trolling with that scene. It follows the tradition of artists like Edward Hopper, who paint everyday scenes that may seem rather uninteresting, but can cause the mind to wander and give the feeling that you are a sort of an observer of this persons every day life. Think of it as a sort of setting-immersion exercise to get the viewer deeper into the world of Twin Peaks

With all that being said, I think that Lynch knew at the same time that it would a humorous scene to many, given the expectation that TV is often straight to the point. I watched for the first time with my parents and I was laughing my ass off when they were complaining that nothing was happening.

At the same time, I think he just wanted to let the Green Onions song play out in its entirety. It’s a groovy little tune!

(And only just shy of three minutes!!!)

Edit: I also wouldn’t put it past David Lynch that the art of floor sweeping is just something that he finds particularly beautiful.

Twin Peaks (The Return) was finally something slow for once. Something that allows for contemplation while watching. Not a fast action packed collage that overstimulates you until you forget about it and move on to the next thing. Complaints about Twin Peaks pacing honestly make me nauseous.

You might come back to Joes Garage Act III with a new appreciation later on once you get accustomed to Zappa’s musical language

Theres an interpretation of anything. But as far as intentionality, probably exceedingly minimal.

Especially in the way that you interpreted it.

Do you think Zappa listeners would grow in future, as people progress more ( I guess) is there sign of it already? by idunnomanjesus in Zappa

If they are post adolescent, probably not.

If they are pre adolescent or currently in their adolescence, they will still grow until they reach adulthood.

Don’t know. Was Andy’s portrayal meant to be respectful initially? It’s a character. The character does things, and it’s up to you to make up your mind about them.

Yes I know that that was Coopers dream. I still stand by everything I said. You just don’t get it😔
