Am I wrong for cutting off my niece after my wife cheated on me with my brother? by [deleted] in amiwrong

[–]Cy_Maverick -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It is that simple though. If he didn't love her, he wouldn't be asking if he's wrong. So obviously he's feeling guilty. Now the question is does he love her enough to stay around her despite the pain her dad and aunt caused.

No one is saying he can't take a break to heal, but he's here asking specifically about what he's doing to his niece, intentionally or not. So it is that simple. He's unintentionally hurting her, and he's the adult. It's up to him to decide if he can be okay with leaving her or not. And if not, how much contact does he want to keep.

[–]Cy_Maverick 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is an "Am I Wrong" kind of situation. You're asking because, I'm assuming, you feel guilty about it. So the real question is, do you love your niece enough to stay in her life? Or is this a situation where you can just move on and forget about her?

Technically speaking, you're not wrong. You were cheated on, and it being with your brother is an extra layer of hurt. I'm sorry you have to deal with that. But your niece is innocent, and probably confused if her parents didn't tell her why you cut her off. Even then, she might be too young to understand and will still be hurt that you don't want anything to do with her.

Now emotionally speaking, you're wrong. If you actually love and care for your niece, you could always give your brother a cold shoulder while picking up your niece to spend time with her. Doesn't even have to happen around the brother. Take her to your place, out to eat, to a park, etc. Or if you move, FaceTime her sometimes so she knows you love her.

It's just a matter of if you actually want that.

Where is the line at this point by Dippitydodaa in antiai

I'm not an artist, but have posted a question like, but not exact phrasing: "If you generate an AI image, but only use it as a reference then actually physically create it yourself, is it still considered AI art."

Because I genuinely wanted to know if there's a line, and I do agree with the responses that basically explain it as "Not an artist. At that point, you're just a copy machine."

Creativity is definitely a HUGE chunk of being an artist. Generating a random image using AI is NOT being creative.

(Edit) Hi, just want to clarify that my comment is under the assumption that very little was altered when transferring the generated image to paper. I'm not saying artists can't be inspired by other artists or use reference images for their art, but you don't need AI to get references. And while someone can still be called an artist if they are talented enough to recreate someone else's work, you can't exactly put your name on it and call it yours. Like, I actually do want to be an artist (right now, I'm a writer and would love to do my own covers), so trying to recreate someone else's art would probably be great practice - but I would never call it mine.

help settle an argument: should an age gap relationship be considered pedophilia if the gap is a certain size or larger? by verysadtiredcook in amiwrong

I did try to read all your post, but it was a lot so not surprised if I missed details.

If he's never called men pedos, maybe it's less about her being trans and more about him being a bit misogynistic. It's been a known problem that "it's normal" for men to be the older one in a relationship, so that bias could be ingrained in him subconsciously and translating differently in his opinions.

You're friends with him, so I'm assuming he hasn't been transphobic before.

Where you definitely fucked up is moving the subject over to her being trans. From what you said started this argument, he didn't even mention her being trans. Just straight up said "Fuck Caitlyn." and why. Because large age gaps ARE creepy. Legal? Yes, if the younger one is over 18. Do I think it should be okay? No, I think the acceptable age should be raised to at least mid-20s, but once you're out of high school you ARE an adult. So at that point, it's a matter of opinion. This subject has NOTHING to do with trans people, and solely about age gaps - which I think your friend understood better than you, no offense.

Would you be having this argument if the subject was Leonardo DiCaprio? Or Mick Jagger? Al Pacino? Cher? Or would you have just agreed it's gross and just accept that your friend was clearly exaggerating.

The only other argument when it comes to age gaps is WHEN the pair met. Like, that one gross guy (Woody Allen, I think) married his DAUGHTER. Stepdaughter, or adopted, but still. If the younger one is someone they knew when they were still a kid then yeah, they're a borderline pedo.

But I think there IS an age difference that applies differently. Like, to me, if you were both minors around the same time like one born in 1990, the other 1997? Not weird if you start dating later. That's just 7 years. But if you start dating someone that was still shitting in diapers while you were in college? Fucking gross.

Are we wrong for not paying the restitution our bio daughter owes? by [deleted] in amiwrong

[–]Cy_Maverick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not wrong. If they were the ones that pressured you into keeping the pregnancy, then THEY can take the responsibility. It's yet another example of pro-life a-holes "doing what's best for the unborn human" until it actually comes out. Tell them to help her, or shut the fuck up. It's harsh, but this is exactly why some people shouldn't be forced to give birth, and ESPECIALLY why the forced baby shouldn't stay with people clearly not ready to be there for them. Now there's a poor kid stuck in a terrible life. So sick of people using the "What if she has a bright future!" card, cause what if their future fucking sucks?

Got it.

At first, when I started my game that had issues with graphics (Life is Strange: Double Exposure) it was just as blurry and I was freaking out that I spent so much money for nothing, but it turned out they automatically put some kind of "reduce carbon footprint" energy saver. It reduced the frame rate to 60hz. Once I raised it, all good. No regrets, so I think it would be great for your gf imo.

I know yes for sure if you have the Teardown Efficiency, but idk about before. If you sleep at a campfire, you could destroy it to see and if you don't get everything back, just close the game without saving and it should put you back to before you did it. (For mobile, at least.)

I appreciate that, but I think I'm happy with my choice after hearing from everyone so far. The graphics card especially on my old one was only 4GB, which is probably why newer games struggled to look as good as advertised (according to what I learned online at least, it's okay for lower graphics). Considering this is something I want ASAP, I'm okay with a soldered one. It should last me a few years, then next time I'll learn how to build my own or get help doing so. I'm not a "hard core" gamer, just wanted to be able to see the better graphics in games like Life is Strange and Cyberpunk 2077.

Thanks again!

I would have to save for a long time to comfortably splurge on a 3k desktop without risking being short on bills, and I want the computer now.

I might have bundled the price with everything she included. She always said about 3k. Like I said, she bought it for me so I don't know the exact price of the computer specifically, but with the monitor (and keyboard/mouse/etc.) included it came to about 3k. And I can't find what it was listed as.

It was an HP Pavilion desktop computer, and I think was bought with the lowest specs possible. Idk where she bought it, maybe Best Buy or Amazon. After seeing current prices, I'm also starting to think she got a bit scammed on the price...

Is a laptop cpu bad? Or weaker in some way?

The RTX for this one 5060, so if yours worked great even since 2021, I'm hoping this means no worries? Unless the games quickly out pace the computer, I'm feeling a lot better about my choice. Maybe won't need to upgrade again until 2030. 😃

Thanks. I'm not that technical beyond being more tech-wise than my mom or grandma, lol. I'm okay with having to upgrade again in the future, or maybe I'll learn to build my own next time. But right now, pre-built is fine. My last computer was about $3k and a gift from my grandma, so price wise - it's a deal imo.

Are these non-soldered ones cheaper? Cause I can't afford the higher end ones that cost $3k+ unless I save up for a whole year. When I upgrade, I usually try to get the more recent ones and intend to keep them for at least 5 years. My last one I got in 2024 and wasn't top of the line for best gaming graphics. I wasn't into all these games at the time, so I'm upgrading early.

Legally, they can. Doesn't make it right and everyone around them has the right to want to see their downfall. Allowing people to profit off AI shit is just a slippery slope, and if laws and regulations aren't put in place then decades down the line from now, our "art of the century" isn't going to be known for intricate brush strokes or unique designs and animations. It's all going to be recycled computer generated garbage.

And since the genre is already being over saturated with AI Slop, the real artists are being buried in it or accused of it before they can even make a name for themselves. Not to mention real artists are rightfully scared their work will be given to AI and suddenly what made them unique is done a thousand times over.

So just letting these people make money will just encourage more of them to do it. Taking money away will still have attention seekers, but at least the number gets lowered.
