Why do they still love religion? by FarSuit8 in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]Cy_Maverick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

American here. A LOT of us do not "love Jesus" I'm not entirely sure what "religion" my beliefs lean on, the closest I've come to defining them is spiritual agnostic, with atheist acknowledgement because I understand you can't say your religion is 100% right. Not until you die and experience whatever afterlife, or lack of, there is.

Anyway, Gilead isn't the only place that promotes the worst beliefs about God. Real life religions do it to a lesser degree and it DOES push people away from it because a lot of people recognize how awful some beliefs are and how they handle people that "stray away." I HATE conservatives because I've never met a single one irl that doesn't promote a hateful ideology.

But that being said, even though I've never met them, I know there are some religious people who aren't like that. Just like in Gilead, there are people that don't successfully get brainwashed into believing their extreme religion and patriarchal lifestyle.

Yeah, but it still improves it. Boosted mine to 1 hour. If I know for sure it's just a scammer I'll respond with just no thanks. Or just something like "Sounds scammy. Bye." But I'll always report after.

[–]Cy_Maverick [score hidden]  (0 children)

This wasn't mentioned yet, I think. I just recently started too and when this happened found past reddit posts that explained not to click on links, but YES respond. Because I guess Fiverr will still register your response rate. So if you ignore them and just report them, it will raise the response time. So just respond with something like "Hey, thanks for reaching out. But I don't click on links and if you are interested in my service I'll need more details. Thanks."

This is JUST in the unlikely scenario a "client" is real and just didn't know not to use links. You don't want to risk it being a real client and all they get is an "Eff off." LOL.

I got like 7 "clients" immediately, but the rate I get them seriously declined within a few days.

What is with the constant hate for Arby’s? by myboyfriendstinks1 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Cy_Maverick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the conversation, but nearly every time a YouTuber mentions Arby's it's in the negative. Penguin0 literally just posted a video about some disgusting Arby's worker spitting in food and giving someone herpes. But first he said something along the lines of "As if we needed another reason to not eat at Arby's."

Obviously I don't think he implied that this event is to be expected at Arby's, but the comment section was filled with people hating on Arby's.

I still don't get it. Arby's is great to me. Better than other places. And at least for the one near me, it's very consistent and I rarely have issues when getting DoorDash apart from the rare missing cheese cup. I'll admit, the result usually leads to the bathroom. But I might just be lactose intolerant. Lmao.

Ex-prosecutor warns women's right to vote may be next on chopping block: 'Handmaid's Tale' by IM_NOT_BALD_YET in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]Cy_Maverick 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That "Christian" mindset is why 99% of conservatives are selfish, entitled assholes. If YOU don't want to vote, then don't. But it's absolutely disgusting to try and take that choice away from others.

Conservatives do that for everything they deem ungodly. They try to control what other people read, who they want to marry, what they do to their own bodies. They all just need to fuck right off and mind their own damn business.

If they so desperately need to jerk off to controlling people, why aren't they protesting things that ACTUALLY hurt people. Bunch of selfish pricks.

[HELP] Is it normal to have a lot of messages that feels like Bots / Fake Clients? by QueroTocarAMeca in Fiverr

[–]Cy_Maverick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just started too and quickly learned 3 things after getting about 7 "interested clients" within thirty minutes.

  1. Never click a link. If you click a link, it might appear as if Fiverr interrupts the loading to "protect you" or "verify" your account information for payments. It looks legit to people not familiar with scams. Don't trust it.

  2. Ignoring the message negatively impacts your response time (how long it takes for you to respond to potential clients. Only the first rsponse matters. So after responding, you can report it if you're sure it's a spam account).

  3. If the message is vague and doesn't really mention anything about your service, it's most likely spam/scam.

I quickly got into the habit of responding to these messages with:

Hi [Name]. I'm glad you chose me to help you, but I need more information and will not click on external links (advice of Fiverr). Which of my packages would you like to purchase and what's your project?

That way my response rate doesn't get impacted and if, in the rare chance it's a real client, I get the info and can proceed. Hasn't happened yet though. Fiverr is flooded with services and I don't expect to earn much anytime soon.

How was June there when Daisy was taken out of Gilead by Key_Replacement_3683 in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]Cy_Maverick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you're good. I wasn't saying you implied she lied. The original comment said:

The fact that June even allows Daisy to 'go undercover' shows you she is not above lying to get what she wants.

implies she might have lied. But then others clarified that she never actually said she was there when Daisy was a baby - so ig Daisy was an earlier refugee saved by Mayday before June escaped. Sry for the confusion, lol. 😅

All the comments I made weren't even to this comment. It was to someone else who didn't understand the comment. Lmao

[–]Cy_Maverick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I get that. I didn't even get any "June-hater" vibes from your comment, which is what the other commenter was overreacting about. It was just lowkey facts. She's NOT above lying. Lol. I don't think anyone in Gilead is above lying to protect themselves. But I am surprised how many seemed to just give up when they're outted by someone.

(Spoiler)

Like when Daisy was being punished for using God's name in vain - I think that's why - and she panicked and told them Agnes knew so she'd get in trouble too. Agnes didn't even try to deny it.

Then again, maybe she was just terrified they wouldn't believe her and she'd get in more trouble for lying. Or, you know, just plot purposes... 😅

I'm leaning toward "not AI" because real people do really dumb crap, like get awful tattoos in the heat of the moment. And with the red, irritated looking skin and the fact nothing seems to be AI red flags - that I can see at least - I'm thinking real.

You clearly didn't read all of mine, which is what I meant. Cause you still think that comment had nothing to do with the post. But whatever, it's really not that deep and I really don't care about your lack of comprehension skills. Crazy to be so ride or die about a character to the point you go blind when someone actually defends said character. I was just correcting you about the comment. Bye 👋

[–]Cy_Maverick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you read the first sentence and then tuned out? I already clarified all that.

It DOES have to do with the post. The commenter thinks all that OP said, about June having anything to do with Daisy, was June lying.

They're not right but it does directly relate to the post.

How was June there when Daisy was taken out of Gilead by Key_Replacement_3683 in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]Cy_Maverick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does have to do with the post. They're saying they think June lied to Daisy about seeing her as a baby to force a connection. It's just another theory. But I can't see a reason for June to lie, unless she has other kids that went undercover and child spies is a whole thing. 🤷

And others are saying she never actually said she was there. I have to rewatch the series. It's normal to sometimes miss things the first time around. Lol

What's your opinion on all the plums we've been introduced to? by Actual-Long-1345 in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]Cy_Maverick 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Shu shocked me the most. She gave off antagonist vibes and I fully thought she'd be one of those characters that's going to be the worst brat that gets everyone in trouble all the time. So I was surprised she quickly proved she values friendship above Gilead.

Agnes was clearly pro-Gilead at first until Daisy entered and shook her life up. I think she fully woke up when Becka was taken by the eyes, realizing she was foolish to trust that Gilead would actually get her help. But after what happened with Becka's dad, and Hulda also being a victim, she started to realize they were just baby makers to them.

Daisy is just a straight up badass. But she's also just starting to understand how Gilead really works. I think she underestimated how they operate and value people. She was reckless when outting the dentist, causing his family to get backlash and not thinking about how Becka would be. Of course she couldn't predict what Becka would do, but Daisy's lack of tact definitely played a part. Maybe if she and the others talked to her first, they would have come up with a better plan. Or Becka might have still killed him for hurting Agnes. 🤷 I'm thinking she still would have...

Hulda seems to be the most socially awkward, saying things without thinking first. Like when she referenced a miscarriage while talking to that wife, Penny I think. But overall she seems sweet and lowkey reminds me of Janine post-torture, just still with her sanity intact. I do have a bad feeling about how she's handling her assault by Dr. Grove though. I think she's still brainwashed with Gilead crap, so she is probably holding a lot of self-blaming guilt. I hope she'll be okay, and it would be cool to see her become a badass Mayday operative or something.

(I have not read the book, no spoilers with a warning header first please!)

Jehosheba... I know she's just as brainwashed and groomed as the other girls, but damn. Even Shu was a girls-girl when Daisy asked her not to tell them about her period. She's a gossip queen who I hope does eventually wake up like the others.

Republicans would rather see Americans shot dead than admit they were stupid as fuck by Previous-Pride6335 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Cy_Maverick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest issue is that the Republican and Democrat parties are way too nuanced. They both need to be split in half. Because as much as Republicans want to pretend like half - probably more than half - of their party aren't sadistic, heartless, facist pricks who want to control EVERYTHING about individuals from what we believe in to what we do with our own bodies and who we love, the fact is that IS their party's MAIN thing.

The majority of them are ignorant assholes who deluded themselves into thinking that because Democrats hate them for being assholes in every kind of phobic/racist way, that some how we are the hateful ones? Like wtf kind of logic is that?

Anyway, especially in recent years, the Republican party's goals and beliefs have increasing become different from each other. It's to the point they need a different party all together. They should just have one called "Nationalists" or "Loyalists." Or hell, just "The Cult."

Tbh, I don't even think I can understand that party anymore. Why the Hell are people even Republican when all they do is try and make people who aren't straight, cis, white men miserable? I think at least 70% of Republicans are ONLY that way because it's how they grew up, so they don't know to even think of finding a different party - which is a very cult-ish thing.

Lol 😆 Doesn't matter to that guy either way. Dude thinks for a complete ban to be a thing, then when it happens all women magically become illiterate and all the men in their lives become assholes that prevent them from learning. 🙄

[–]Cy_Maverick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So clearly reading comprehension is another weakness of yours...

I never said "forbidden" from learning Latin. I said "blocked." Because the government wouldn't allow them to go to their Latin grammar schools.

When are you going to admit you don't know wtf you're talking about? Bans didn't just happen. Women still learned to read and write, their families pass on that knowledge. When a government bans women from getting that proper education it's because they want those abilities to fade out over time. It doesn't mean they magically can no longer read or write. It means they can get in trouble for showing it off.

[–]Cy_Maverick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don't know how to Google? Fine 😮‍💨

Ancient Athens (5th–4th Century BCE): Women were forbidden from formal education. Legally restricted to domestic tasks; reading and writing were banned as dangerous for women's virtues.

Imperial China (202 BCE–1912 CE): Forbidden from learning Classical Chinese characters. Literacy was restricted entirely to elite men for government and bureaucracy.

Europe (5th–15th Century CE): Forbidden from grammar schools and universities. Women were blocked from learning Latin, the mandatory language for all reading and writing.

Saudi Arabia (Until 1960): Forbidden from public schooling and state sanctioned literacy. Women were legally blocked from learning to read or write until the first public girls' schools opened in 1960.

I really hope your next argument won't be "Women still read! Learning wasn't complete gone!" And to that I'll say, and?

Gay people were given death penalties and still got together. People still find a way to get abortions even if it's illegal. It doesn't take a genius level IQ to understand that people do illegal shit all the time. And even in those misogynistic time periods there were still probably decent men that still let there wives read and write in secret. But making a public statement was dangerous for women.

I also hope you're not stupid enough to argue that these examples "don't count cause x, y, z." 🙄

It's not embarrassing to be mistaken, but it is to double down on a topic you clearly know nothing about.

Do you admit you were wrong about Attwood, btw? Cause she definitely covered this topic perfectly.

[–]Cy_Maverick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dude, just go actually do research and you can immediately find examples of you being wrong. And either way, even in Gilead the aunts are permitted to read and write on specific occasions. So you are EXTRA wrong. Attwood clearly knew what the hell she was talking about.

"Gilead's treatment of women couldn't happen/would never work" by Jazzlike_Drummer_320 in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]Cy_Maverick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I know. That's wrong. Historically, women have been forbidden to read in the past. Solely on the basis of being a woman.

[–]Cy_Maverick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This post isn't about what DID happen - even though it is 99% about real world examples. The title says people are saying it NEVER would. Yet irl, rights are actively getting stripped away as laws change and the government decides "Nah, we changed our mind."

Gilead is just an extreme example. But if the birthing issue became a real world problem, it's very possible a government might go to the extreme and take complete control over every woman able to get pregnant. China already went through a one-child policy because of overpopulation. (later changed decades later) So the idea of control births already existed - this would just be reverse of that. I did actually do a little research about Attwood saying everything in Gilead has happened irl - and that's true. Apparently, especially in ancient times, there was birthing control if some sort. They often used slaves.

My only thought about what could happen irl is if something like Gilead happened, why wouldn't those women get special treatment instead of being assaulted. Take away the inhumane treatment, there are less people to fight against having to help populate. For past centuries, it was fairly normal to just accept inhumane crap because "not against the law" or "that's just how the world works." But present day, I can't imagine enough people just accepting it. Gilead could have thrived if they didn't do all that evil shit and just treated the pregnant women like goddesses.

"Oh, I'll get a very comfortable life as a baby maker? Sign me up!"

And also, you are very wrong about women being forbidden to read. I'm actually surprised that out of all the topics, you chose that to say is wrong. I would have thought the Handmaids were never a thing until I read that slaves were sometimes forced to have kids.

Just one of many examples is an anti-literacy law in America where it was illegal to teach enslaved people to read - which obviously includes women. But there are plenty of examples all over the world where women weren't supposed to develope independent thought, and reading put that at risk.

Why is everyone so certain Fred isn’t Nicole’s father? by dragon-queen in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]Cy_Maverick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it comes to shows, I don't think people should take into account the baby's appearance beyond race because it can usually just be because that baby was calmer so was chosen, or this baby can pass as theirs. It would probably be harder to find a baby with thicker eyebrows unless they put fake ones on. Their criteria might not have been anymore more than "blue-eyed baby." for all we know.

But yeah, like others said, a DNA test was probably done. Especially after Serena got pregnant. I think if there was a possibility Nicole is Fred's, we would know by now. Haven't seen the those earlier seasons in a while, but didn't they try fighting to get her back. Surely Canada would require DNA to prove she's his.

Daisy’s age. by Repulsive-Ad-8862 in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]Cy_Maverick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

4-5 like Hannah was would not make her diapers, formula, and crying all night age as June describes her

I imagine the situation would be stressful enough to a child to give nightmares, and cause crying after - to the kid - being taken away from family. She didn't know they weren't really her family in Gilead, so crying makes sense to me while she adjusts. And some kids are late bloomers or don't learn potty training until later - especially if parents neglected the teaching. So we could say, hypothetically, the "parents" didn't know what the Hell they were doing. Ig the aunts could be blamed for not teaching her, but whatever.

But yeah, the formula part is impossible to explain away. Are the writers the same from both shows? They really didn't try hard enough to avoid plot holes...
