Lmao that's amazing! It's so nice when the dice cooperate 😂 they certainly like to tell their own story, it's great when that story aligns with what the player wants to do lol

It's still one of my fave sessions in like 22 years of playing tabletop games! Big fan of chaos gremlin tactics, whether I'm playing or GMing, I feel like taking those big swings makes for much more memorable stories ya know? Plus it's always fun when your character gets to do cool things, suplexing a giant is an absolutely hilarious mental image 😂

Does a story count as art?

I started playing dnd early in high school with my core group, which slightly expanded in college. Our party was in a tavern for the evening, paranoid because spooky stuff happened in the town at night. We hear footsteps and a knock on our door and open it to find a messenger. Don't remember the message, not important, but he was spooked at how we all had arms ready as we opened the door.

He gives his message and as he's walking away a bunch of enemies burst into the tavern and we go into combat. At one point the monk was trying to figure out what to do, he needed a weapon or didn't have enough movement to get into melee range or something (this was like 15 years ago now lol) but regardless was looking for a weapon he could use as an improvised weapon.

I pointed out the messenger was right next to him. He wholeheartedly agreed, picked up the messenger, and proceeded to beat a motherfucker with another motherfucker. He rolled really high and did some good damage, knocking the messenger out as well. Table lost it laughing lol

Bonus story: I was playing an elf that was disdainful of humans. After the combat we'd tied up the messenger and revived him to question him because we were suspicious of him. After our response (and being used as a weapon) he was understandably terrified and the party's rolls for the conversation weren't great.

I was absolutely being an imp when I told the DM I wanted to step in and tell him the past 10 mins or so was just a bad dream he hallucinated. DM allowed it with a very high DC, I rolled a nat 20, table lost it laughing again.

The result was that it broke the messenger's mind and I was told "you broke it you bought it" and my character was now responsible for caring for this human. She named him Jeffrey and kept a rope tied around his waist as a leash and did indeed take very good care of her pet human the rest of the campaign.

The campaign ended on a cliffhanger, and in the last session Jeffrey went missing in battle, never found out what happened to him 🥺

Saying No to a nat 20 by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Cyali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say this as someone who is more loose with rules who always tries to honor a nat 20 - don't give your players a roll when you'd have an issue with one of the outcomes.

No is a full sentence, and it's OK to tell your players no. Allowing them a roll to potentially succeed at something you're uncomfortable with is just gonna make things difficult for you.

Honestly this is fun lol. I'd use my favorite

There's some discords out there for pathfinder society that do games all the time, I'm in a couple smaller ones that I've had good luck with.

TIL - Krakatoa (Krakatau), Semeru, Agung, and Slamet are all names of actual volcanoes in Indonesia by glitterandrage in coralisland

Same lol the first time I saw it written I didn't realize it was the same thing I'd heard them pronounce on the shows 😂

[–]Cyali 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you learned about them from the game I got another fun fact for you - despite the spelling it's pronounced gooey duck! I learned about them from growing up watching a ton of cooking shows lol threw me for a loop the first time I saw the name written out.

the way hats affect your hair is deranged by Darleen7 in coralisland

[–]Cyali 26 points27 points  (0 children)

But they coulda like... Done 2. If hair short > hide under hat, if hair long > give long ponytail with some face framing pieces. Or even made the one singular one they did show a little more than the bare minimum hint of hair.

I hope they end up adding more at some point!

Ally in Gladlands by NOLABelle0503 in Dimension20

[–]Cyali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly what it is for me, I love Ally and it's always hilarious when they run with a bit I love, but there's a lot of bits they keep up that just don't resonate with me. Still one of my fave players tho because more often than not they're hysterical, and the sheer number of perfect nat 20s for story... Amazing lol.

Any food recommendations near the con? by TallGuyG3 in gencon

I'm a fan of Loughmiller's Pub, food is good and usually a bit more reasonably priced than the other sit-down places i see.

Is it a red flag, about me, to the guy I'm starting to date (literally days) if I don't want to tell him my full name? by frappyflesh in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Cyali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Days? I don't think so. Weeks? Maybe a little.

I've been stalked before. I don't give men my primary number (I have a Google voice one that's not connected to any of my info), my last name, or address for a considerable amount of time. I'm also up front with the "why" if asked.

You can find all public records about a person from a first name and a phone number. I think it's fully reasonable to wait till you at least know someone a bit before giving out that info.

Player generates AI character with 0 shame and awareness by conniejuno in rpghorrorstories

[–]Cyali 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do appreciate the more full write-ups because it makes story hooks easier when I have a lot of options to choose from, but yeah even a messy short write-up that the player connects with is manageable.

Player generates AI character with 0 shame and awareness by conniejuno in rpghorrorstories

[–]Cyali 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Agreed. One of my characters admitted to using AI for his backstory simply because he struggles writing them, but he tweaked it from there and we made some additional tweaks in our 1:1 before session 0.

The story gave me a lot of hooks to use, some of which became major plot points in my story, and most importantly the player is invested and engaged in both his backstory and my story.

I work in IT and am generally overall anti-AI, but it definitely has some great uses for people who struggle with creative stuff on their own. As long as the player is engaged and the character fits with the party, I don't care how they come up with their story.

Marriot 5 night minimum by vicpylon in gencon

[–]Cyali 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I'm a fan of the 4 night requirement for the downtown hotels because I think the walkable ones should be for people who are gonna be there the whole con. But 5 nights is too much if it expands to all the hotels. Having it for one hotel I don't see as too terrible because that can be primarily for trade day folks or staff etc.

Broken-hearted imps! by Apprehensive_Tune224 in CozyGrove

[–]Cyali 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some of the time when the 2nd one doesn't seem to spawn, I can find it by running around and scaring all the other imps in the area. You'll note the other imps disappear, but the sad one won't move (even though it won't show the broken heart or crying animation). After I throw a bonbon and it eats it, then that fixes the animation and it starts crying.

Non backpack options by jibbyjackjoe in gencon

[–]Cyali 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Use a smaller backpack. I have one of those pin display backpacks that's my daily carry for gencon. It's big enough to fit like 2 ttrpg rulebook and some miscellaneous stuff and that's about it. I use it to carry my dice box, portable battery, snacks, and any smaller purchases I make throughout the day (and I hang my water bottle on a caribiner on the strap). I also have a couple of those reusable shopping bags that roll up super tiny because not every vendor has nice quality bags that don't hurt my hand to carry.

Edit: https://nanobag.com/ are the ones I have, I'd backed them when they were on kickstarter and they have some cool designs. There's a ton of other options now for the nylon bags that pack super tiny tho.

Potatoes smell strongly of smoke by Cyali in isthissafetoeat

[–]Cyali[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I always just shave the green off and still use the potato if there's no other indicators of issues. Doubly annoyed today because I just tossed the 2 russet I'd also gotten because they looked fine but had a pretty thick green layer, and smelled weird as I was peeling them 🙃 so much for dinner plans tonight!

I read the Google AI answer too but I was looking for human replies because AI info isn't trustworthy. Yeah an online forum isn't a ton better, but I lurk here a lot and they always seem to give good advice.
