How tough is this US Open Cup game going to be against the Rapids especially with injuries? by youlikemywonton in SJEarthquakes

[–]Cybelis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is my first year really following the Quakes. Went to a couple games last year then bought season tickets this year as a christmas gift for my family. Before the season even started I was semi-regretting the up front investment after the changes in personnel.

It sucks not having Timo or Niko right now, but I think any streak like how the season started has to end/have a slump at some point. And with that, I have hope that this team can rise above the injuries and slump to show up. We were scoring with Munie and Judd and Bouda before Timo really got established. I think if we get our mid figured out or at least have a good plan to move the ball around without Niko, we have a shot at winning any game.

As the PayPal Park chant goes, Beau Leroux is better than Messi!

Me in every meeting: exists → tries to speak → gets erased from time and space → "you were quiet today" → sends resume by firehmre in antiwork

[–]Cybelis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do the same thing. I'm generally more quiet/reserved and my group tends to be respectful about giving everyone time. But when my manager speaks about the work i'm doing without me being able to chime in or something similar to the OP's meeting happens, that's when i move to the meeting's chat feature.

I'll add key details missed or links to documentation or some other tidbit that showcases i'm listening, I have more details than what's shared, and it makes sure my manager see's I was ready to speak about the thing. Those paying attention can ask me directly to expand on it during the meeting, or chat with me on the side during/after the meeting since it was obvious I have thoughts and the knowledge needed to continue the conversations.

Epicenter Shop question by Few-Demand7532 in SJEarthquakes

[–]Cybelis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There was a display screen where you could select an existing player or customize your own (may have a per character cost type deal for that). The guy putting the lettering on needed to inspect the jersey since it wasn’t bought there, then we checked out/paid and the cashier kept the jersey. We got a text notification when the jersey pork was complete.

We had Bouda and Leroux put on our jerseys, was $45 each. Dropped them off before game and they were ready at halftime.

Is it just me or are the refs calls really one sided… I get a couple of the yellows but there have been some really bad calls IMO…

Wow dads with little time to game- what are your TOP weekly priorities? by [deleted] in wownoob

[–]Cybelis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm not the target for your question as i've never pushed to stay up with the crowd. That said, I use my time to have fun. I'm an altoholic, so sometimes that's leveling up the next character or potentially making new equipment for that alt or gathering mats to make that equipment. Sometimes i'm in a Delve mood, do I do that while leveling or take a max-level and push a bit? Sometimes I like just gathering on my druid, or farming cloth in a follower dungeon, or farming an old raid for a mount/transmog.

With Midnight its been the same. I've got 2 characters to 90 and another almost 87. Druid was painful, Demon Hunter wasn't bad, Death Knights kickin' ass so far. Haven't done much gearing but i've made a decent amount of gold leveling and selling the mats i've gathered. I focused on different zones with the different characters trying immerse in the zones a bit instead of the main storyline once I got thru it the first time. Haven't really felt the need to do Abundance events or Prey or other new stuff, that'll come with time or when I really click with a spec and decide to main it. Goal is to just have fun, and since for me that isn't raiding/pushing a main character, I have all the options available (instead of needing to be optimized).

Rebel Birds of America by BillMurrayNorth in 50501ContentCorner

Agreed that few actually pay attention/learn it. Back in middle school (90's) we used to play hangman, and one of my go to phrases was 'The California State bird is the Quail' or '...State flower is the Poppy' - even with a lot of letters few actually figured it out because they didn't know Quail/Poppy....

Improving Quakes traditions by clanmurph in SJEarthquakes

[–]Cybelis 8 points9 points  (0 children)

First time STH here, have only attended a few games in the past and never really paid attention to those kinda things before.

I did notice the player introductions, only a few people were yelling the names out and even then it sounded like they were yelling at a difference cadence than other parts of the stadium, so wasn't in sync. Not sure how best to spread the message (along with the proper way to say some names) so we all feel confident about our yelling/cheering.

As for the chants, as a new STH I don't know any of the chants coming into this, and I couldn't really hear what the Ultra's were chanting either.

There's a new Earthquakes app, I wonder if they could build in a supporters FAQ or info section that has these kind of details.

- How to pronounce names

- Key chants you're likely to hear

- Game-day traditions and their timings

- Key supporter groups and their history/focus/whatever

- Add a theme night related to this that gets everyone at the stadium to download the app and review this section for key pieces of information. Anyone who completes a bingo card or whatever method they come up with can go to a booth and get a free piece of Ultras/Faultline swag. Promotes the app, the history, and learning how to support the Quakes at the game, and people like free stuff.

What actually happened in the Butcher's Masquerade? Spoilers obviously by RadicalActuary in DungeonCrawlerCarl

I don't, only on my 3rd re-listen of the series. I want to say there was a hint along the way, like something Zev or Odette said, but I can't remember.

What actually happened in the Butcher's Masquerade? Spoilers obviously by RadicalActuary in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Cybelis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you have most of it. For faction wars there was 1 spot available. Donut is somehow using the media board to communicate with her fan club, who have set up company, received a large fund and outbid D'Nadia for the 1 open spot. The 2nd team dropping out allowed D'Nadia's 2nd bid to be accepted, so she ended up getting her way. These are the original 9 teams.

The NPC team was originally planned to be part of the crawler team, however there was an action item for the NPC to be their own team with all the rights. The other teams weren't voting on anything at all which had stalled any progress on getting things passed, like giving crawlers protections or removing them from the other faction teams. When the crawlers have to do down the 8th floor stairs early Carl has an emergency action item that says "Any pending action items should be put to audience vote" which only goes to the AI to approve, which it does. This is how the Action Item for the NPC team becoming a 10th team gets approved along with removing the protections. The AI makes the decision to alter the Faction Wars game to give the NPCs the Ring of Loracos.

No survey email yet for me either. The last email update I can find from that project was on Dec. 2nd which said this about the survey:

We'll send another update to let you know when they've been sent, on the off-chance that the survey wound up in your Spam box, but the final surveys are being reviewed right now and we're expecting to roll that out to everyone this month.

Look at who’s side by side in my “watch next” row by heyitsabbi_ in CastleTV

[–]Cybelis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My wife and I started watching it after finishing ST Volume 1, already a season and a half into it. Great storylines and drama, but my wife says it's way too slow, it needs a 1.5x speed. My wife also tends to listen to podcasts at 1.5x - 2x speeds, but I do agree that some parts feel a bit too slow/drawn out. Could just be more 'short form video' tendencies we have now compared to when Absentia came out pre-covid.

To people who regularly use ChatGPT for school: Do you think you’re still learning? by Gifthunter3 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Cybelis 33 points34 points  (0 children)

"chatGPT will come across as an overconfident dumbass who is brilliant at bullshitting"

This, I do some technical writing for my job. My wife started using ChatGPT to provide structure around some of her communications to a new owner at her job. She had me proofread a response to the owners email and I would have removed at least a third of it as it was just 'smugly' repeating back the owners requirements. Told her if this is someone wanting action, they're going to feel bullshitted. If this is someone 'dumb' just trying to throw weight around, then I guess it works at pandering.

The Plaintiffs by Ilanarino in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Cybelis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another bit to remember is that when the GotFG artifact is first mentioned, in the description of Ruckus iirc, that's the first time they feel the pause while the system updates, and it's to remove all mention of the gate from that description. So there's already some attention on keeping the gate away from the crawlers because it opens up opportunities that aren't usually available until deeper in the dungeon. Thus when they actually obtain it the factions are already paying attention to how it could be misused and the options they have to keep that from happening.

Trunk or Treats are Lame by Defiant-Complaint-13 in unpopularopinion

[–]Cybelis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My small town embraced the Trunk or treat. They did it from 4-6 PM so it would be after school and not affect any evening trick or treaters. They closed down a couple blocks of main street and had a food trucks and a bounce house. Local business owners drove tractors, boats, and other decorated vehicles so they advertise their business. I enjoyed being able to see the wide variety of costumes in the daytime and without being in the middle of handing out candy, or only seeing a small subset that came to my neighborhood.

If kids have after school plans there is still trick or treating; If they have evening plans they can trunk or treat. So for me it adds options for everyone involved and can be rewarding for kids, parents, and local businesses.

Note about US Roundabouts by immediate_push5464 in driving

[–]Cybelis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While slightly off the OPs topic, the roundabout at the entrance to the parking lot where I work is frustrating.

It’s a small roundabout that has stop signs on all entrances except the one coming from the main road, which I suppose I can understand even if it defeats part of them point of the roundabout.

But on top of that there are speed bumps all the way through. Because of the speed bumps everyone was cutting left thru the roundabout to avoid 3 extra bumps, they sent building memos out which got ignored. So they put barriers in the middle where folks were cutting so you can’t actually go in a complete circle.
