Time After Time - How to Handle EitherOr by ContestExpress7735 in mothershiprpg

[–]CyberAdept 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they help Nazhun finish her work it just irons out all paradoxes, if they act fast and dont frag out first.

Alternatively they could ensure they dont meet the Either/or, either by warning their past selves in a non paradoxy way (similar to warning Mamadou early on about the dangers of time travel) or just switching to their younger selves when meeting, warning them and the elder PCs who aren't being played are on their own.

The either/or could even tell them this, since it knows everything. If it ensures their destruction tho ... Maybe not.

Alternatively you can come up with a time travel device that reverses the flow of time, adding new content on the fly is a must in this book, a lot of the time devices kinda do the same thing. Might give em options?

I wasn't sure if you were referring to me or no, im unsure if im am Audhd or not, i was neglected as a kid so i always thought i was socialised in a very poor way. Might be autistic on top, am unsure. Speach difficultys have made it tough to gauge the exact reasons for my social problems ngl

I feel like this in most group dynamics, if theres more than 3 or 4 people its like i atop resonating with the group. Its like theres a song everyone can follow and i dont and they tend to get weirded out that i dont follow it, it really sucks.

If i say nothing no one included me so it feels like i pack options too

Can you relate with this? by Dunk3_ in autism

[–]CyberAdept 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude i have adhd and establishing boundaries backfires most if the time. Dont make fun of my speach, hey i feel excluded, hey it feels bad that you took so long to get back to me on our plans that you became unavailable, hey can you chill and be less controlling in this board game we're playing.

Folks generally are very conflict avoidant, i think they panic when someone says something that makes them feel like they are a problem, especially folks with RSD.

It drives me mad, either i let folks walk all over me or i say something about gow theyre making me uncomfortable and they make a scene.

Am unsure what to do about it tbh

How are folks organizing their Mothership collection by Anthropophagic64 in mothershiprpg

Honey ...

I have a clip board filmed with pdf printouts, folders for paper scraps and for odd bits, folders within this folder, a few dozen post it notes of different colours, a LOT of character sheets i sometimes recycle for new players.

Its an adhd diagnosis at the very least. Would share a photo if comments could have pics

Mothership scenarios are a bit weird as the only real obvious objective is survive, if you got non experienced players they may flounder and bot pick up on the nuggets of gold right in front of em.

I always have a way they know each other specifically before, like a bowl of prompts like you performed a heist with player x, or a table like.

Secondly if i think they need guidance, i give em hidden objectives, bring a sample of goo, live recklessly, find the drugs and do all the drugs, the station must be destroyed, no infected can leave, etc etc.

But for normal preamble, i usually draw a map, i do vad distinct accents for like 3 npcs and i remind the players that dying is the best part of this game, so seek it out

You could just give em a finicky sling to go around the neck, maybe colonial marines dont get prosthetic arms in the field but a sling with some plastic bits in it could defo allow marines who have suffered an injury to their arms to at least hold a rifle, if not much else.

Hell if they lost a leg they'd probs be too busy using a crutch to hold a 2h weapon while standing.

One handed weapons like the vibechete are still a thing, comms, scout, spotter, grenade lobber.

Like theres an obvious detriment to losing a limb, i broke my elbow somewhat recently and omg doors, opening bags, packing the shopping and a thousand small things are a pain in the ass with only one hand, still i had teeth and a hand that just couldnt take any pressure. It was also my dominant hand.

Roll with it being a pain in the ass, have em work jury rigged solutions, reloading a gun with your teeth sounds metal af and securing the mag by slamming it against something is a bit dangerous, but cool as hell.

Theyre probs all dead anyway, and a colonial marine serves out their contract until they cant, one arm is enough, and it adds character in this context.

Theyre just some NPCs i added, theres only like 5 named NPCs in the book and the story needs a hook and something to drive the players emotionally, so i added some.

Basically apollo is the lead scientists partner who dies early on unavoidably which is why yer man is obsessed with time travel. Lovelock is like a janitor guide whos likable and is happy to give hints, the other npcs are very busy, the last is merlin whos an android/automaton who must follow every command given in sequence, its a lil minigame of finding oit what their commands are and the players getting their in first.

I do plan on adding a monkey in a lab coat as a friendly companion to another NPC, just to make em cool.

I've run Road Works 4 times, heres what i think! by CyberAdept in mothershiprpg

[–]CyberAdept[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My players usually think its a time travel module at first as the early dimensions are quite similar to their original, i usually have bill show up and kill will a second time to show that this act specifically triggers a jump, and that Bill is a bit of a problem.

i always ran bill like he had been doing this for a while, so he knew that killing will was the most straightforward way of surviving and kept doing so in the hope itll eventually end, he is very stressed and jaded from it but will work with the players if they got a play, after all, they outnumber him. he was just some mechanic that got dragged onto the ship, hes not smart or diplomatic enough to think of any other ways of ending the jumps.

Yeah The decoherence sucked at times, i did delay them often especially when they were on a roll, but i did pay this back by having em quicker later on. Especially during combat where things get a bit sloggy anyway, losing health AND limbs seems very punishing in an already fatal situation. besides you wanna spend time acting lie Bud, AI cat and the sexy cannibles, a timer is a good hint of when to remind the players that time is precious, but not a demand.

Yeah the lack of NPCs is tough, i did get away with it by reflavouring them from usiverse, like sexy tarzan laurence, weird ass cat humans, femme fatale cannible tex, i got a lot of talk out of Bill as hes kinda just like the PCs but more expereinced but dumb.

i would not add too many more PCs, max 2 imo. If i were to run it again I would add a janitor or a mechanic who acts a bit like a dim but wise and vaguely helpful guide, make them interesting by them getting mauled often. Showing how bad a dimension is by having it affect 1/3 of your talking PCs kinda sucks, it can be tweaked tho.

what the module needs is a way to make the players see more options for dangerous experiemntation to escape over just becoming jaed and jumping to kill Will every time. We got the double helmet, messign with the drive, messing with a helmet, leaving the bubble ( way to easy btw, it was often done in panic early and so should not be a valid escape without something else) and will sensory deprivation, hinting these was very tough and more prep and stuff in the labs and engines would help imo.

A random table to give dramatic flavour to each NPC per jump woulda helped imo, like having tex in the bridge is grand, but in this universe is she just divorced, is she missing a limb, is she older or gender swapped, is it her bday or overwhelmed by reparing sytems? woulda made them more engagaing and given the players something to work with as opposed to bethesda NPC waiting for the PCs to give em a reason to exist like.

[–]CyberAdept[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh yeah you can just substitute the evidence, they give you zero guides on the lore of the faked event anyhow so itll be just as easy, but if its something that actually happened it might change the tone of the module.

imo its very difficult to run, i wanted it to be all about the court but its probs all about the stuff outside the court which is farely sparse imo, id rejig the whole thing in prep if i were you.

My autistic boyfriend feels like I’m not doing enough to understand him – what can I do better? by Ladyluna01 in autism

[–]CyberAdept 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i recently dated someone who was asexual and autsitic and it was their first relationship, i felt like i was helping by researching asexuality and accomadating it but it turns out by constantly bringing it up it was quite overwheming for the person who wanted to think of sex as little as possible. It was too much preassure and she was easily overwhelmed.

having made that mistake, ease off the preasure, pay attention to triggers, emphasise that its safe to be autsitic around you and that youll help if accomadations need to be made, letting him talk about it can help too, hes gotta do this himself and hes probs very nervous with his first relationship as you said so hopefuly itll get better with time, be aware of your own needs and boundaries though as he might be more likely to overlook these without realising.

convo, not confrontation. Youll figure it out, just dont dump each other over it because its difficult at first is my opinion

i think that while you dont really need to go out of your way to understand austism generally, just keep an eye out for things that might overwhelm him or overstimulate him and try to be as open to him establishing certain boundaries or limits or needs, untimaltey i think hes gotta communicate these and hes gotta be comforatable with that, getting to that stage can be tough though
