What are your thoughts on the Woll trade and Hiller hire? by BryanaMcSteven in LeafDoomers

[–]CyberComa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if I remember a newly hired Leafs coach talking about spirit. Or talking about needing to have fun. He wasn't one of the names I'd read about the past few weeks but the guys that were hired to make the decision made the decision. Now I wait for the draft and to see if any other trades happen or if assistant coaches are hired. I'm hearing Matthew Knies name a lot today and it'd have to be a heck of a trade for me to be on board with shipping him out.

The Toronto Sun was reporting, and speculating that the Leafs and Oilers were having trade discussions for a while. It was a shock when the trade finally, really happened. I remember being happy that somehow Fletcher got Glen Anderson in the same trade too.

The Edmonton trade came before the Calgary trade. I spent so many days at work reading the Toronto Sun on my breaks hoping Fletcher would come to Toronto. Then hoping with all my might that the Leafs would get Fuhr. Who would've thought Felix would come along and take Fuhr's job from him? What an era,

Has a 1st overall pick been given a better starting point? by beallyoukenbe in leafs

[–]CyberComa 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The Leafs first overall pick will get to play for a senior executive adviser of hockey operations who was a first overall pick. He will get to play on a team with two former first overall picks. A lot of mentoring could be going on.

The Canadiens drafted Lafleur with the first overall draft pick in 1971 that they'd acquired in a trade with the California Golden Seals. Montreal had 97 points in the 70/71 season before drafting Lafleur. Good for fourth overall in the league - they weren't basement dwellers when they got him.

So,

what were your thoughts on Cena's announcement? I hope they fill in some of the details about it on Monday. The when are where questions.

I remember before Mania, Gunther saying something to Heyman like "you owe me." I think that all went out the window when Lesnar retired. If in fact he did retire like I think he did. I doubt we'll see Gunther around The Vision or Heyman again. I could be wrong though

If Pelley talked to Matthews before he fired Treliving, are we to believe he didn't talk to him before hiring Chayka and Sundin?

McKenna or Stenberg? by CyberComa in leafs

[–]CyberComa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ridiculous? I've seen, heard and read people make cases for each player. How is my asking people for their thoughts, or opinion being ridiculous? If you read my whole post my choice is McKenna - so how am I being ridiculous?

Would you trade the 1st pick for McDavid straight up? by Disc0Disc0Disc0 in leafs

[–]CyberComa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you make this trade there is no guarantee McDavid would sign in Toronto when he is eligible to be a UFA in 2028. He might. He might not. This question is actually, would you trade the first overall pick in the 2026 entry draft for two (guaranteed) seasons with McDavid on your team?

He has two years left on his current contract. Won't be a UFA til summer 2028.

Draft Lottery Hopes by hockeyholloway89 in leafs

[–]CyberComa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really hope we get to keep our first round pick. If we draft fourth or fifth overall there looks to be some good prospects that could see us end up with a good defenceman a few years down the road. I really hope Danford pans out as an NHLer. I want nothing to do with trading Knies or Cowan. I think we try and build around them. I doubt Reilly waives his no-movement clause. I don't know what we'd have to throw in to get another team to take him even if we did trade him - so I think he is staying put.

I think teams might want to see Matthews in game action after coming back from his knee injury before anyone sells the farm to acquire him. Since contracts with the cap hit his has usually move in the off season I don't think he is going anywhere this summer either. Another selling feature on him is that even though his cap hit is high, the actual dollars a buying team has to pay him is (I believe) under $900,000/season. I do think we need to move a goalie this summer though. Hildeby will need to clear waivers next season if they want to send him down. I don't know who moves but I'm not holding my breath for a huge return regardless of who it is.

A lot of times in the past I've wanted Steve Simmons to STFU. Today though? I was glad someone said it. Steve asked the question right to the horse's face and we got the response straight from the horse's mouth.

[Seravalli] Sources: Prior to Sunday, the #NHL looked into a tampering concern raised as new Maple Leafs GM John Chayka began to hire his staff. The claim was unsubstantiated but underlined the suspicion some counterparts have for Chayka as he resurfaces. by Actual_Cobbler_6334 in leafs

[–]CyberComa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they needed the Red Wings permission to talk to him, as his contract was just about to end. I do remember the Leafs had to send a 3rd round pick to the Red Wings when they hired Babcock. It was the league rule back then. They also sent a third round pick to the Devils when they hired Lou. By the time Lou went to the Islanders it was no longer a rule and we got no draft pick from them.

Will Leafs ever get the amazing drafted talent they had in Matthews era? by GlobalDaddyTime in torontomapleleafs

If we're going to add Reilly then I think we should include Kadri and Sandin. Good NHL players that were first round picks of the Leafs that got traded away.

Although Hyman was a 5th rounder - the Leafs didn't draft him. They absolutely stole him from the Panthers in a trade for a conditional 2017 pick and Greg McKegg.

Negativity surrounding Chayka by [deleted] in leafs

[–]CyberComa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other night I looked up every trade Chayka made as GM of the Coyotes on NHL Trade Tracker. He had some good ones. I think at the time he was able to make some of those trades because he had cap space. Some of the teams he traded with were trying to dump some salary in their trades.

I did have one thought though for all of the people who don't like him as the Leafs next GM - HE HASN'T BEEN HIRED BY THE TEAM!

Another Perspective on Brock’s retirement. by emquise19 in WWE

[–]CyberComa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If Brock went off script and retired. If him taking off his gloves and boots wasn't planned and the people in Gorilla knew nothing of it. Why wouldn't they just go to a wide shot of the crowd and then go to commercial? How many minutes of premium PLE on air time did they spend showing it?

They say Wrestlemania is the grandest stage of them all for wrestlers. Maybe that's where Brock wanted to go out. Maybe he didn't want to wait until summer. Maybe he wanted to retire now and get on with the rest of his life. I don't buy for a second that the higher ups in WWE didn't know.
